    Karen Christine´s Hero and Villain

What I learned doing this assignment: Once again, I learned that “filling in the blanks” is such a powerful tool, and that extrapolation seems a little out of reach at the beginning – but in the end it is very rewarding.

    Concept

    Hero Morally Right:

Charlie is driven by a mix of personal growth and a sense of justice. He wants to protect the lie detector, the truth it represents, and his love interest, Sophie. He initially sees the lie detector as a nuisance but gradually realizes its importance when he witnesses its power to expose lies in small but hilarious ways.

    Villain Morally Wrong:

Sylvia, the government official, embodies systemic corruption. Her desire to destroy the lie detector is fueled by fear of exposure. Sylvia rationalizes her actions. She believes that "some lies are necessary for stability".

    Hero

    A. Unique Skill Set
Charlie’s unique skill set is his ability to read body language and emotions—honed from years of working with dogs. This makes him surprisingly good at spotting weaknesses in his opponents, even if he doesn’t realize it at first. His humor becomes a weapon, disarming enemies and diffusing tension in chaotic situations.

    B. Motivation
Charlie’s motivation evolves throughout the story. Initially, he just wants to survive and protect his dogs. But as he sees the damage caused by lies—especially when it threatens Sophie or innocent people—he becomes determined to stop Sylvia, even if it means risking everything.

    C. Secret or Wound
Charlie’s wound is tied to a deeper fear of disappointing others. The lie he told his mother had unintended consequences, like causing her to miss an important opportunity or leading to a misunderstanding that hurt their relationship. His journey with the lie detector forces him to confront this guilt and finally make amends.

    Villain

    A. Unbeatable
Sylvia is not just a government official—she’s the architect of a massive conspiracy that spans multiple industries. She’s ruthless, using surveillance, blackmail, and even violence to protect her secrets. Her partnership with the CEO adds layers to her power, as she can leverage both political and corporate resources.

    B. Plan/Goal
Sylvia’s plan is to recover the lie detector and reverse-engineer it to create a "truth suppression" device—something that can manipulate or erase truths entirely. This raises the stakes, as Charlie isn’t just protecting the detector; he’s preventing a tool of mass deception from being created.

    C. What They Lose if Hero Survives
Sylvia and the CEO risk losing not just their power but also their freedom. The lie detector could expose a web of corruption so vast that it brings down entire institutions. This adds a sense of urgency to their pursuit of Charlie, as they’re not just protecting themselves—they’re protecting an entire system of lies.

    Impossible Mission

    A. Puts Hero in Action
Charlie’s mission begins as survival but evolves into something bigger. He realizes the lie detector isn’t just a device—it’s a chance to expose corruption and make a real difference. This realization pushes him to act, even when it terrifies him.

    B. Demands They Go Beyond Their Best
Charlie’s growth is tied to reclaiming his confidence. His training montage could mix humor and heart, showing him awkwardly trying to get in shape while the dogs hilariously "help" (e.g., using a leash as a resistance band).

    C. Destroy the Villain
The climax could involve Charlie using the lie detector in a dramatic public confrontation, forcing Sylvia to confess her crimes in front of her allies. The scene could be both tense and hilarious, with the dogs creating chaos to help Charlie escape.
