What I learned doing this assignment is it was a lot easier to start picturing in my mind how things will play out once I had the identities chosen for my characters.

Tell us your Concept and the Group you have chosen. A filmmaker kills actors in a found footage film to make it more believable. The group is a team of professionals. In this case, actors.
Tell us the Dying Pattern of this movie. The dying pattern is pattern A, 6-8 characters killed off one by one.
Give us an Identity and a sentence for each character that makes up your group.

Out of control/Obnoxious – Amanda, a highly paid actress who had a recent scandal and looks down on everyone in the group.
Moral one- Chuck, a religious man driven by his faith with a strong sense of right and wrong.
Rebel/Rulebreaker- Ravi, never wants to follow the script, always playing pranks, and possibly a red herring as well.
Innocent- Virginia, was called in at the last minute to be part of the project and has no idea what is going on.
Rescuer – Alessandra, a struggling actress who is also an on-call nurse and is one of the first to realize people are getting hurt.
The Carrier- Dylan Craft, the director who is also the killer.
Lovers- Carrie, who is only agreeing to do this film for her boyfriend James.
Love interest- James who only says he cares about Carrie. He is actually only interested in sleeping with as many people as he can.

Horror Day 3: Characters for Horror

    4. What I learned doing this assignment is that I feel at least as much fear as my “rag-tag band of misfits” in being able to put these pieces together and not imaginative enough to finish it. I don’t care for the horror film formula but appreciate it’s specificity. I learned it might much easier to create an empty killing machine (Art the Clown, Michael Meyers, Jason Vorhees) than a functional character (Jigsaw, Freddy Kreuger etc.).

!. A Rag-tag group of young warriors are gifted the cushy mission of driving a secret weapon across war-ravaged Afghanistan in a truck that happens to be haunted.

    2. Dying pattern: I’m thinking one up front and two later on.

    3. A) A confused loner, hungover from the night before and not sure why he has been chosen for this job.
    B) An suspect Afghani translater
    C) Private Ambrose: a by-the-book officer in training, looking forward to getting into Officer Training after this fubar assignment is completed.
    D) Private Sikowski. A female who showed up with Ambrose and wants to get back home in one piece.
    E) British Army Mechanic Eric Cousins, who thinks he’s getting to Mosul on a free ride.
    F) James Howard, says he works for the US government and sees himself as the leader of the mission.

    ASSIGNMENT 3 – Survivors & Victims
Subject line: Carole Avila – Characters for Horror Script
What I learned doing this assignment is the importance of certain components, including strong characters, that make up a great horror script.

Concept: A fifteen-year-old girl suspects something sinister haunts her grandmother’s old mansion, and it hides in a dark portal beneath her bed. She learns a demonic being born of a generational curse kills the first-born child in each family on their 16th birthday—and hers is just around the corner.

    Group: Social (Family)
The Dying Pattern of this movie is: C. No one dies, but the characters are brought to the very brink of death and/or insanity
    3. Give us an Identity and a sentence for each character that makes up your group.
    • Leader – Great-uncle Pablo shares the history of the curse and discovers how to get rid of it.
    • Rescuer – Victor, the new love interest of the main character; he holds part of the key to destroying the curse.
    • Innocent – Adley, who is also a Complainer, doesn’t know her family’s been cursed; she meets Victor who knows the background of the family. She becomes the monster bait.
    • Moral One – Adley’s mother; she wants the family vacation to be perfect; always tries to look on the bright side
    • Moral One – Adley’s father; wants what’s best for his family; both parents think Adley’s fears and complaints of noises is expressing her need for attention

    Susannah’s Characters for Horror

    4. Answer the question “What I learned doing this assignment is…?” and put it at the top of your work.
What I learned doing this assignment is that giving characters titles such as Leader or Rebel helps develop their overall character, actions, and worldview

    1. Tell us your Concept and the Group you have chosen.
A supernatural masked killer gets revenge on a small town. I have chosen C, Social Group.

    2. Tell us the Dying Pattern of this movie.
I have chosen A, to put six to eight characters through the ordeal and kill them off one by one and leaving only one survivor.

    3. Give us an Identity and a sentence for each character that makes up your group.
Leader: Bonnie – the person who can be considered the closest thing to a final girl, the twenty-year-old steers her group of friends and other locals in the direction she wants by taking charge of the situation and remaining calm.
Rescuer: Waylon – a young man eager to prove himself. He agrees with Bonnie most of the time and does his best to keep others safe.
Complainer: Horace – a man in his late thirties and the local mechanic, disappointed with his life and his life choices, he thinks dying like the others is unfair.
Rebel: Zoe – a girl in her late twenties, she wants nothing else than to escape her hometown like so many others and make a life for herself elsewhere. She goes along with the group for safety’s sake but eventually goes out on her own.
Moral One: Elijah – an old timer who tries to use his local knowledge to escape and to even figure out who is killing the townspeople. He tries to have the younger ones look inside themselves to find the answers.
Loner: Magnolia – a woman of indeterminant age is quiet, shy, but familiar with voodoo. She is afraid but finds it difficult to ask for help or even rely on others.

    Jessica Tremblay’s Characters for Horror
What I learn during this assignment is that every character plays a role.

Concept: After her father’s death, a pregnant woman comes to rescue his dog and finds herself trapped in the storage area in the basement of his building where she must battle a genetically-enhanced bloodthirsty creature — resembling her father’s dog — using objects found in neighbouring lockers. Protecting a doll who acts as a surrogate for her unborn child, she learns to be a mother while finally making peace with the past. After all, parents can be monsters and monsters can be parents.

Group: My main protagonist is an outsider – Joanna, a pregnant woman who comes to rescue her dead father’s dog. The supporting characters are the Building Manager and Mrs. Larsen (her father’s neighbour).

Patter of dying: Joanna, the main protagonist will survive, but not the supporting characters. Mrs Larsen will die for her sin and (she’s the one who incite Joanna’s father to use the pet enhancing drug) and will get eaten by the beast. Joanna will punish Building Manager using the Beast, but will neutralize the Manager herself.
    3. Give us an Identity and a sentence for each character that makes up your group.

THE CARRIER: The Neighbour Mrs Larsen, by telling Joanna’s father dad about the pet-enhancing drug, brings terror into their lives and building.
Moral One: Joanna accidentally killed the dog of her one-night stand Mike. To redeem herself, she’ll seek to replace it and will do anything to find and rescue her dead father’s dog.

Monster bait: Building Manager. When he tries to kill Joanna (to prevent her from revealing his scheme of profiting from deceased resident by cashing him their pension cheques) she uses the Beast against him.
Leader: a doll found in storage will lead Joanna in her effort to defend herself and find weapon. Joanna will converse with this doll to the point where we’ll wonder if she has lost her mind.
