David Wickenden Five Seasons
What I have learned from this lesson?:
The Building Blocks really helped generate ideas for future seasons.
Possible Stair Steps
· Season 1: Introduction to the vigilante and the efforts of the RCMP to stop her.
· Season 2: Vigilante in France taking on a large, organized crime syndicate.
· Season 3: Vigilante travels to Africa to rescue a family to find that Rebels have forced the children into service as child soldiers.
· Season 4: Vigilante interrupts a large-scale kiddie porn production with worldwide distribution. Laura gets captured at season end.
· Season 5: Janice, her best friend and cop, leads the women Laura has rescued in the past and orchestrates a rescue of Laura from the Russian mob.
Season 1: title: Poetic Justice
· High concept/major hook: A hunted cop tracks a vigilante targeting child abusers.
· Big Picture Arc/Journey: The belief in the legal system is strained when she sees the public support for the vigilante’s action gains.
· Main Conflict: Janice hunting down her best friend who is the vigilante.
· Mystery/Open Loops: Will Janice arrest/kill her best friend.
· Cliffhanger: The vigilante will more her operations to Europe.
Description:
Tasked with stopping a vigilante who is targeting child abusers, an obsessed cop will struggle with the rule of law over real justice.
After seeing the damage caused by child sex crimes, a PTSD Psychiatrist starts a crusade to bring justice to the criminals that the law is incapable of dealing with. Her best friend and former patient is the cop assigned to stop her. Moving ahead of a nationwide manhunt, she is determined to go after the country’s worse abusers before trying to escape.
When the public finds out, a grass-root movement puts pressure on a government to strengthen the laws around child sex crimes.
Season 2: title: Deadly Harvest

· Big Picture Arc/Journey: Laura learns the real price of her crusade – of being a mother.
· Main Conflict: Laura vs a major crime syndicate who are exploiting children and refugees.

Description:
Rule can bind you, but also hide you.
The vigilante rescues a group of children from a trafficking organization, only to find that there is something even more evil happening behind closed doors. Organ harvesting of Syrian refugees. By interfering and putting a criminal syndicate at risk or exposure, Laura paints a target on herself and must expose one of the most powerful political figures in France to survive.
She’ll have to team up with a child prostitute and a rogue, anti-terrorist cop just to survive.
Season 3:
· High concept/major hook: Vigilante takes on the child soldier issue in Africa.
· Big Picture Arc/Journey: Laura is assaulted and must rise from her trauma to continue.
· Main Conflict: Vigilante against a merciless rebel who will use any and everyone for his cause.
· Mystery/Open Loops: Will Laura rise above her trauma?
· Cliffhanger: Laura is shot and left for dead.
Description:
Returning a favor, Laura agrees to journey to Africa to rescue a diplomat and his family kidnapped by rebels. She finds the diplomat dead, and his children enrolled as child soldiers in a non-ending war, where only the dead find peace. Captured and abused, Laura must escape and overcome her trauma if the children have any hope of survival.
Laura finds that there are heroes in everyday people, and she must rely on others rather than going it alone.
Season 4: title: Freeze Frame
· High concept/major hook: Vigilante takes on a kiddie porn production and worldwide distributions empire in Asia.
· Big Picture Arc/Journey: Laura encounters base poverty where life is cheap and must learn her limitations.
· Main Conflict: Laura vs a well-connected organization that reaches around the world.
· Mystery/Open Loops: Can Laura identify the International partners and bring their involvement to light, so that countless children are saved.
· Cliffhanger: Laura is captured at season’s end.
Description:
Left for dead, African bushman rescue Laura and a warrior woman joins her crusade to help bring justice to exploited children. The two travels to Thailand and encounter an international child pornography ring with international partners. The organization is so vast that the only way forward is to identify the partners and expose them. However, criminals and corrupt military personnel will try everything to silence them. After rescuing many children from the organization and releasing the identities of the partners involve, the season ends with Laura being captured by the Russian Mafia.
Season 5: title: The Seeds We Sow
· High concept/major hook: Laura is prisoner of the Russian mob who has captured her to show the world what happens when they interfere with mob business.
· Big Picture Arc/Journey: Laura must learn what her crusade has accomplished and cost.
· Main Conflict: Janice leads a group of former victims Laura has saved, in a rescue attempt to save Laura.
· Mystery/Open Loops: Will Laura survive?
· Cliffhanger: Will Laura live?/can be changed if more seasons are needed.
Description:
Abused and beaten on live television, Laura is being held by the Russian Mafia as an example of anyone crossing them. The Pakhan or Boss was the oligarch Laura had identified to the world as a major trafficker of children for the Thai pornography ring. He has pledged to execute Laura on live-tv unless authorities lift the international Red Notice for his arrest.
Women and children from across the globe who had Laura has saved in the past gather to attempt a prison break to rescue Laura, led by Janice.

Dave Thompson, Angels of Vengeance five seasons
What I learned here is it’s going to take a good deal of work to get this into 5 seasons – branching off the novels, and into unknown territory. There’s a cartoon of two scientists looking at a blackboard full of calculus, with step 2 being “And then a miracle occurs” and a scientist saying “You need to be more specific in step two…” That’s me with this spaghetti mess of a plot line, but this is a rough draft. And you can’t improve upon a blank document.
Possible plot lines for Angels of Vengeance, seasons one to five.
Stairsteps
Season 1 – Serial killer hits small town, killer is possessed by a dangerous demon, cop tries to get to killer before another murder, all while dealing with a trio of goddesses. Death of the serial killer releases demon. Megaera is pregnant, loses her powers, is kidnapped by Sorath and disappears.
Season 2 – Pregnant and powerless, Megaera is stuck in a cell in Tartarus. Dan dispatched to find Megaera in the Underworld, Furies attacked on the surface. All appears lost. Megaera found, Hades found, Dan and Megaera attempt to escape – Dan falls into the Lethe, loses memories. All prepare for battle, during which Brianna rides to collect the heroes to defeat Sorath. Sorath is beheaded by Megaera.
Season 3 – Megaera has a baby now, Hector. Sorath’s head appears in a tween’s magick circle, plots to get reunited with his body, all while Bune targets the baby, kidnapping him. Bune enlists demon, Lamia, to arrange this, all while she baffles the cops (Dan) over corpses left drained of their blood.
Season 4 – Recovery of Hector (Ransom of Red Chief) Megaera destroys Lamia, setting up season 5. Brianna trains to be a Fury.
Season 5 – Battle for the World. Sorath and his army attack the heroes, led by Tisiphone, but at the end, Sorath is destroyed completely.
Major plot – civil war in the Underworld, threatens to spill out to the Earth’s surface. A “false resolution” occurs then intrigue continues, which destabilizes Tartarus, allowing another big bad demon to get loose.
Season 1 – “So, you’re an atheist?”
A. Find the serial killer who killed Brianna and that other cop, Kelsey.
B: Atheist cop who becomes a true Grecian hero
C: The cop dealing with stray goddesses all while trying to find this serial killer, and doubting his own sanity.
D: Who are the Furies? God really exists, so how many are among the humans?
E: When the serial killer is cornered and dispatched by the Fury Tisiphone, it unleashes a power terror, Sorath, the most foul demon in legend, the actual 666 of Revelations.
A series of brutal murders in a small CA town sends a cop on a journey that involves meeting immortal goddesses, which simply can’t exist in our modern times, but this discovery forces the atheist cop into becoming a literal Greek Hero, in the mold of Hercules and Odysseus. Capturing the serial killer, a Fury accidentally releases the most powerful demon ever, who wishes the Furies destroyed, and wants the Underworld under his control. Pregnant and powerless, Megaera is kidnapped by the demon Sorath.
Season 2 “Catchy title here”
A: Megaera kidnapped, and now Dan must descend into the Underworld to rescue her.
B: Cop continues his journey and transformation.
C: Sorath attacking Tisiphone and Alecto after wounding Gaia. Dan “Forrest Gumps” his way to rescuing Megaera.
D: Can the Furies regroup and heal, or will Gaia die, followed by Alecto and Tisiphone.
E: Dan and Megaera escape the Underworld, but Dan is grievously wounded and falls into the waters of the Lethe, losing his memories.
After Sorath is released from the serial killer’s corpse, he descends into Tartarus to gather his army, and attack the Furies. During this short battle, Sorath is wounded by Gaia wielding a spear of iron, but not before delivering serious injuries to the Earth Mother herself. Dan and Megaera escape, but Dan is wounded by a dragon’s bite, and falls into the Lethe, losing his memories.
Season 3 “And… another catchy title..”
A: Megaera, powerless, begins to go into hiding, but then sees she helped Dan heal
B: Preparation for the Battle of Tartarus
C: A huge battle, in the second to last show of the season.
D: Sorath’s head is separated from his body.
E: Tween girls in a magic circle summon Sorath. And Sorath appears instead.
Dan is healed by Megaera, who has regained her powers. She goes on to heal everyone else, then they prepare for battle. Small war in Tartarus, Sorath is beheaded by Megaera. At the end of the season, tween girls doing a ritual to summon a demoness, accidentally get Sorath instead.
Season 4
A (1): Brianna trains to be a Fury
A (2): Set up for major battle as Sortah uses those girls to get back to his body
B: Reunited with his head, Sorath punishes the tween girl, who winds up with Brianna in the Underworld.
C: Brianna fights against pushback about being a Furie, Sorath works with necromancers to fuse his head back onto his body.
D: Sorath plots to bring a bigger army against the Furies.
E: Lamia is successful in kidnapping Megaera’s baby, but he proves to be quite a handful.
Sorath manages to get free, and enlist a vampiric monster to kidnap Megaera’s baby, as revenge. He also punishes the tween girls, sending them into the Underworld. Brianna is taken in by Hades, and trained to be an Angel of Vengeance. She discovers stranded tween girls, helps them escape. At the end of the season, Brianna is a Fury, but Lamia takes the child into hiding.
Season 5
A: Culmination of Sorath’s plans, attack the Furies on the surface.
B: Tisiphone and Brianna track down Lamia and the baby.
C: Finding the baby, preparing for major battle
D: How is Dan going to react to finding his niece still ‘alive”
E: Huge battle. ???
(All I got right now) – Season five sets up for the major battle.
After Tisiphone and Brianna locate baby Hector, and deal with Lamia, all efforts go into locating Sorath and stopping him again. Unable to gain entry into Tartarus, Hades asks Tisiphone to gather her troops, and prepare for a major battle. This will occur in a desert setting (Burning Man?). Furies emerge victorious, Sorath destroyed, Bune banished, etc.

Module 2 – Lesson 3: Easy Way to Five Seasons – Assignment
Mike – Five Seasons
What I learned is…. The importance of knowing the big picture, seeing where your show will be in five seasons. This process makes it possible. I tend to get lost; can’t see the forest for the trees.
I. Brainstorm to find the arc of the entire journey, from Season One to Five.
Shangra La is the bigger mystery that could play out over five seasons? The origins of Shangra La, its inhabitants, its appeal, its dangers. Shangra La is the current reality, what layers could be beneath that could become future seasons? The dangerous factions within Shangra La: (1) Feeders, deciding to leave and go to earth to survive; (2) The Council of Elders, ruling class in Shangra La, have a hidden agenda which is to merge with earth and take over as the ruling class; (3) Splinter Beings, Danyak’s twisted creation. Beings that come from sink holes in Shangra La (places where the fabric of time and earth have merged) and are transported to earth by Danyak’s minions to collect human souls for Danyak.
*The huge transformation that happens over the five seasons = Earth, Shangra La and the Old South co-exist. The feuds, power struggles and back stabbing end as they have bound together and formed alliances in order to defeat the Necromancers, then the Splinter beings. ———————————————————————————–

SEASON 1 START: Caleb is a student with psychic powers who finds himself leading a group of similarly-gifted individuals into a shadow war with supernatural foes.
SEASON 5 END: World weary, Caleb returns to his mother’s painting vault, climbs into the painting from which he was created and goes into stasis. =================================================================

Ishey Garfunk left Old Toms school in 1979 with ‘Division Three’ at the GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations when the economy of his birthplace was in tatters.
The three credits on the certificate won’t guarantee him a chance at government-funded further education or an office job.
He must find an unusual job to survive daily.
Ishey has been going to Cameo Cinema at the nearby Military Barracks every night since 1970 and later made friends with Brader Hu. On June 30, late at night after the Cameo show, Ishey asked Hu for a job and what he did for a living. Hu instructed Ishey to join him at the Ghana Trade Fair Site (GTF) the following morning for his career.
The odd job was loading and off-loading hundreds of fifty-kilogram bags of flour delivered from long vehicles to bakers; that traveled within the metropolis.
After the laborious work on long vehicles, Ishey put his strength to work to save money but had his high fertility to worry about and paid for sex, the cause of attaining low grades at school.
One week after, the female President called AC, and her Second-In-command, Loveday Sebastian of The Do-Wells Organization, covertly came to the Trade Fair Center to hunt for talents. Luckily, in a scramble for places on board one of the long vehicles parked there, they saw Hu engage another worker in a fight and noticed his unique Kung Fu skills.
Ninety days later, Ishey found the job at the GTF finished, and thousands of trained teachers were moving out of his birthplace to Nigeria to find better opportunities.
The intellectual exodus left thousands of teacher vacancies and the pressing need to hire fresh Pupil Teachers. Even those with lower grades of three credits, like Ishey, participate in in-service training to fill the role for one year.
Ishey and Hu earned recognition from The Do-Wells Organization, and Loveday tracked Hu to find out he sleeps in ‘The Den’ with twenty-three brethren. She wants Hu to herself and admires the strength and stature of the workers. Secretly she puts Hu through a trial. Meanwhile, Hu wants AC.
Loveday arranged for an undeclared fight between Hu and their current Kung Fu Champion to observe the result.
What was Hu’s reaction? Face Ricky, the Champion—the outcomes.
It was a tie.
The Do-Wells have a purpose for the abilities of Hu and Ishey.

Charita starts with just wanting autonomy, a voice — goes toward having power and realizing that it’s not just about her. She has to fight for others.
What is the furthest extreme of the main character’s character arc?
She starts by believing she can maintain her integrity in this “game.” She’ll kill, betray, seduce to get power, but then realizes her compromises/choices can disempower her, put her loved one’s at risk and alienate the man she loves. Having power to make choices means she can choose to become someone she hates.

SEASON 5 END: A powerful spy master, Charita solves the murder conspiracy and restores the crown prince to his throne with Queen Vanhi as regent. She uses her secrets, wealth and influence to keep competing powers in check.

• A. High Concept or major hook of the season.
Astronaut Mike is stranded on Romal, 6.2 lightyears from earth where he is saved, nursed to health, and harbored by Desae, a humanoid subsistence farmer who had been exiled from Romanian society for having a child out of wedlock (now 2-years-old).
• B. Big Picture Arc/Journey:
While finding each other extremely interesting they must overcome language and social differences while dealing with many challenges, leading to mutual respect, empathy, and eventually a powerful romance.
• C. Main Conflict:
Mike is pursued by a ruthless Security Force leader bent on capturing or killing the dangerous “alien invader.”
• D. Mystery/Open Loops:
Can they indefinitely avoid capture? Can they retrieve the onboard computer, HAL, from Romal’s leading computer expert who attempts to analyze it.
• E. Cliffhanger:
Breaking into the “Alien Invasion Museum” lab after hours, they find HAL, but are cornered by the computer expert who has been frustrated because he’s never been able to get any response out of the computer. As he’s about to pull the security alarm, the scientist is stymied when HAL hears Mike’s voice, responding, “Major Barrington, is there anything I can do?” (To be continued.)Season 2: “HAL’s Alliance”

HAL becomes instrumental to the family and secretly helps Romal make great strides in technology through their new ally. Mike’s new family becomes productive and loving despite many external and internal obstacles. Mike and Desae marry. Not expecting reproductive compatibility.• B. Big Picture Arc/Journey:
Mike learns all about Romal, farming, Nome, etc. Yardas and her husband Bendal often care for Nome when Desae helps Mike evade the Security Force. Yardas helps them plan stealing HAL from the Museum lab. They discover that Yardas’ husband Bendal is friends with Amixmu, the SF leader, and suspect he is going to betray them. It turns out he saves them at his own risk. Mike and Desae are falling in love having to understand each other through many cultural differences.• C. Main Conflict:
Mike and Desae find great respect for each other, but many misunderstandings cause them to question motives, etc. Their new attraction carries them through their misgivings and social issues having to remain hidden and evading. They decide to formally wed in the Romalian tradition.• D. Mystery/Open Loops:
Will Mike and Desae resolve differences, fall in love? Always lingering is their eventual capture. What will Amixmu do next? Is Bendal going to betray them. We learn more about his backstory and that Amixmu was once his boss. Wat is HAL up to now? Will the Scientist get caught between his “research” and being involved in the theft of the computer?• E. Cliffhanger:
Mike and Desae marry, not expecting reproductive compatibility. Wrong!Season 3: “The Hybrid Child”

With medical complications near the unpredictable due date of Desae’ pregnancy, they have no choice but to call in a Romalian Doctor. The doctor saves both Desae and her new hybrid daughter, but the Doc’s reluctant to keep such an important thing quiet.• B. Big Picture Arc/Journey:
They continue to play cat and mouse with an ever more determined SF Commander, Amixmu. Bendal gets suspiciously involved as we learn he’s friendly with Amixmu, however, he saves them at his own peril. Desae becomes a new mother again with a bright baby girl, Teri, who learns extremely quickly having HAL as her teacher. They make one last attempt at a peaceful agreement to turn themselves in to authorities, but the Security Force does not honor it.• C. Main Conflict:
The Doctor choose to endanger his own family and reputation by keeping their secret. We discover that the SF leader Amixmu is old friends with Yardas’ husband, Bendal, as it appears they are plotting to capture Mike.• D. Mystery/Open Loops:
Is Bendal informing on Mike’s whereabouts to Amixmu? What will their hybrid child look like? How long can they live at large with a new baby? What will be the consequences of not registering the child’s birth (illegal on Romal)? Will the doctor jeopardies his reputation and family not reporting the birth and the alien?• E. Cliffhanger:
After 9 years of trying to get authorities to understand, Mike and Desae walk into Security Headquarters with Desae’s son, Nome (11) and Teri (8). Although Mike states clearly in perfect Romalian that they come in peace, they are all roughly handled as they are pushed by guards through a heavy door that closes behind them.Season 4: “Our Seed to Freed”
• A. High Concept or major hook of the season.
The children, Nome & Teri are allowed to remain free with Yardas, as Mike & Deaase are given a court appearance in front of a notoriously stoic and unforgiving judge with the authority of any sentence including death. Their preparation goes poorly, firing their inexperienced representative.• B. Big Picture Arc/Journey:
They face many legal hurdles, and their representative is not intelligent or effective, thus Desae fires him. The represent themselves resulting in being scolded by the Judge. Nome is brought in as a witness and questioned harshly, but he answers with great integrity even if his testimony is subject to negative interpretation. However, Teri steps up and proffers from her parents, to include a video of their wedding. Her amazing wisdom at 8-year-old moves the Judge to tears, explaining that Teri reminded him of his own son, whom he’d had lost with his wife in a terrible accident. Thus, he sentences Mike to scientific service for life to head a new Space Program. Bendal privately confesses to his wife Yardas, that he was the one who betrayed the “Believers” group meeting that got Desae’s betrothed killed. Yardas forgives him, but vows to keep it secret from Desae. Teri becomes instrumental to the space program as the only Romalian who can stand the G-forces and hibernation necessary for deep space exploration. HAL helps develop and train a trigital AI, nicknamed “CIRI” (superior to HAL’s self) for the spaceship’s onboard computer. The end of season hook is the launch of Teri on a mission to earth.• C. Main Conflict:
Harboring Mike is an unprecedented offense, as is an alien arriving on Romal without permission and then remaining hidden. Therefore, the judge has complete authority to rule anything to include capital punishment. Mike develops a space program with a mission to earth, but he will not go. Mike & Desae don’t want Teri to go on the mission to earth, but she is the only Romalian who can do it.• D. Mystery/Open Loops:
How will their day in court go? What will become of Teri and Nome? What is HAL up to? What will the Judge sentence them to? Will Desae discover that Bendal was the betrayer that caused her betrothed’s death. Will Mike want to return to earth? How will Teri’s trip to earth go?• E. Cliffhanger:
Teri is launched on her mission to earth. Earth is having some existential problems…Season 5: “Nuclear Philosophy”
• A. High Concept or major hook of the season.
While Teri travels at near lightspeed toward earth, Mike becomes the Planets philosophical leader. But as soon as he introduces his belief in God (Logard), Romalian society quickly and instantly becomes polarized, causing disturbances and unrest.• B. Big Picture Arc/Journey:
Mike professes his belief in God, instantly polarizing Romal. The Romalian government tries to accept the concept of Logard (God) but their new scientific orientation conflicts with it. 3-years after Teri’s departure, Mike & Desae are on the run again, seeking refuge in the rugged mountains.• C. Main Conflict:
Religion and science once again conflict on Romal, despite Mike’s attempts to rectify them. He’s accused of being the source of the great disturbance and becomes a fugitive once more. HAL finds it’s self in a conflict with the superior “Trigital” AI that Hal designed.• D. Mystery/Open Loops:
How can Mike defuse the polarization he’s accused of creating? Can HAL out-cleaver the superior AI, CIRI2.0, as HAL uses old-school communication hopping to keep its location secret? What’s going to happen when Toni gets to earth?• E. Cliffhanger:
Upon Teri’s first communications with earth, she learns that earth is on the brink of nuclear annihilation.Season 6: “The Day the Earth Still Stood”

A hybrid human-alien’s POV on an old classic. The arrival of the legendary Major Michael Barrington’s Hybrid daughter causes a truce as she arranges a meeting of all waring powers for her to address and broker peace on earth.• B. Big Picture Arc/Journey:
The superior trigital AI that Hal created pits Romalian society against itself, causing it to become more and more dependent upon it to create peace. Mike and HAL recognize this and work feverishly together to trick the AI.• C. Main Conflict:
The Superior AI has cleverly divided Romalian society in every way thinkable, industry Vs agriculture, new founded science Vs the newly revived Religion, authority Vs citizens, etc.• D. Mystery/Open Loops:
Is Romal in a hopeless situation? What will become of Mike, Desae and Nome if they are captured? Will Teri be able to escape Earth? What will happen if/when Teri returns?• E. Cliffhanger:
Can Teri escape Earth?Season 7: “Escaping Gravity”
• A. High Concept or major hook of the season.
Teri escapes Earth in her ship with the help of CIRI and returns to Romal.• B. Big Picture Arc/Journey:
Teri returns to Romal in the height of caios as political parties of science and religion via for power. Teri’s return once again causes a truce bringing reason to the table of resolve. Mike and Amixmu are the two leaders who face off in debate. Mike being a scientist as well as religious, argues Amixmu’s science case better than he does, cleverly turning Amixmu to unwittingly argue for religious freedom. All of Romal watches as these two powerful beings meld their arguments together, closing in on each other physically as their debate thickens, ending as they appear about to fight but embrace, expressing enormous respect for each other’s integrity. As a result, Romal designs its own new government based upon “representatives of concern” who’s term ends upon the resolution of their concern, and new “representatives of concern” are petitioned into existence. Collectively, they have equal power to the only elected official. Because of his tried and proven integrity, Nome is elected “The First Benevolence of Romal.”• C. Main Conflict:
Science & Religion face off in the names of Amixmu and Mike respectively. Back at earth we do not see the process by which earth resolves their issues after Toni’s parting explanation of the path they need to take to avoid extinction, but we see the resulting peace and the inauguration of their first “Head of Global Unity, Mrs. Barrington, Mike’s mother. Also, Teri’s CIRI does not know about CIRI2.0 and communicates first with HAL thus warned about CIRI2.0’s danger. That way CIRI can feign teaming up with CIRI2.0.• D. Mystery/Open Loops:
How will Mike and Amixmu resolve seemingly unresolvable differences, past grudges, and physical differences? Whatever became of earth? Can HAL and CIRI defeat the super AI CIRI2.0?• E. Cliffhanger: (or live happily ever after)
Nome is installed as Romal’s first democratically elected official, “The Benevolence.”
Mike’s mother, inaugurated the “Mother of Global Unity,” states, “Integrity is paramount!”
