CHARACTER PROFILES FOR LEAD CHARACTERS
What I learned doing this assignment is…Each individual character may have complicated emotions and personality that propels their motivation for having relationships. I could adapt this story line to any society where women are vulnerable to exploitation and risk losing their children to traffickers.
ANA VICTORIA. (I listened to the Mexican American pop singer Ana Victoria and imagined a strong passionate woman in this role, but fictionalized the entire story which has no relationship to the singer.)
What
draws us to this character? Ana
Victoria represents the journey of a mother trying to connect with,
recover, or save her children from harm. <div>Traits:
Passion, courage, strength, stubbornness.Subtext:
Motherhood is essential to Ana Victoria’s identity and motivation for
living, but it has been troubled and flawed by debt, loss, bad choices,
and exploitation, creating a nightmare in which she must try to recover
her honor, self-respect, and her children.Flaw:
Ana Victoria’s search is about recovering herself; it is not just a pure motivation to do
right by her children. She has
compromised in the past in ways that got them all in trouble. She may compromise again to save her own
sense of mission and good purpose.
Does she care if her search places her son and daughter in new
dangers? Ego and some narcissism are involved in the battle.Values:
Love, loyalty, integrity, family, faith, law and order.
Irony:
she placed her children in the path of a strong criminal family that also
values loyalty, courage, violence, and dominance of the weak.
What
makes this the right character for this role? The story is all about motherhood,
mother courage from the borderland to Chicagoland.GAEL SON OF ANA VICTORIA (and dead husband Alajandro)
What draws us to this character?
He never had a real choice in life because he was stolen by criminals who adopted him and socialized him in their world. He is beautiful, evil, but human and remembers his mother and father.
Traits: Clever, seductive,
brutal, and manipulative.Subtext: What would the little
boy be like if he had stayed with his mother?Flaw: He hesitates and is unsure
what the truth is.Values: Masculine violence, family,
getting the job done.Irony: Part of him wishes he was
a legal, normal business owner and family man. What makes this the right
character for this role? Ana Victoria
was close to her son as a child, but now she can never feel the same
things for this man. Creates tension and drama in the new rediscovered relationship.CARMINA DAUGHTER
What draws us to this character?
She is Ana Victoria’s lost daughter who is growing up in someone else’s house.
Traits: Intelligent, kind, easy to get along with.
Subtext: She is willing to listen to AV even though she has accepted
her adopted parents as her new family.Flaw: Carmina hides how wounded she felt over her displacement and
feels shame that bubbles up sometimes in her interactions.Values: Patience, self-preservation, outwitting or winning small
games or intrigue.Irony: She would have felt
competitive with Ana Victoria if they had stayed together, but now she can
accept her as someone new who she is related to and can admire. What makes this the right character for this role? Ana Victoria is reunited with Carmina
first and they can both find Gael, providing support, drama, and subtext
for the search.MANUEL GUERRERO, RETIRED CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER, (MEXICAN) AMERICAN HUSBAND
What draws us to this character?
Manny immediately bonds with Ana Victoria in her passion to succeed and overcome all obstacles. Al feels protective and paternal, matching her strong maternal spirit. They hate the gang members. They want to win, and love empowers their quest.
Traits: Paternal, protective,
passionate, masculine, a lover and a fighter who is revived by his new
relationship with Ana Victoria. </div>Subtext: His relationship
reconnects him to his former occupation but now he is free from
bureaucratic rules and regulations.
Ana Victoria reactivates his sense of purpose. These people need
him. AV loves him.Flaw: Manny would selfishly settle for just
keeping Ana Victoria to himself at home, but he is seduced by all the
action she brings into his life. He
may go home and nap if it gets too rough.Values: Protectiveness, love, mission.
Irony: Manny retired not that
long ago because he felt exhausted by fighting crime and unsure that his
efforts could change anything. What makes this the right
character for this role? Ana Victoria
is a stronger woman with a partner by her side, riding shotgun or driving
to their next lead. Manny gives her the support she needs to believe in her quest.-

DENI B. SHER’S CHARACTER PROFILE PART 2
What I learned doing this assignment is how important it is to do this preliminary work on your main characters before writing the script, so when you step into their shoes and write what comes out of their mouths, that it is 100% true to who they are.
DENI B. SHER
What draws us to Deni B. Sher? Most parents will relate a mother’s love for their offspring. She is a mother who loves her only child and is fearful for his life, knows nothing about addiction or how to save her son, and who has spent fortunes over the past ten years on his education and keeping him in food, clothing and shelter.
Traits: Spiritual, Intelligent, Creative, Determined
Subtext: Expresses her fears and thoughts in writing poetry, praying, projection and creative visualization.
Flaw: Co-dependent, enabler, fearful of her son dying.
Values: Believes there is always hope, that people can change and she never gives up.
Irony: She loves her son, but to save his life she must let her son go without her enabling and leave it in the hands of God, knowing he might die.
What makes her the right character for this role? She gave birth to this child and wants to see him clean, sober and successful in life, both for himself and for her. She’s lived ten years in fear of him dying and stressed out as his co-dependent enabler. She is a very spiritual person and believes in God and the power of prayer, thought and writing.
DR ARTHUR SHER
What draws us to this character? He is extremely patient and loving to Deni. He is compassionate yet firm. He totally understands what Deni is going through and dealing with. He gives her the strength to stick to her guns. Arthur’s love is like no other she’s ever had in her life.
Traits: Compassionate, brilliant, The Devil’s advocate, Extremely Patient
Subtext: He speaks through his eyes, sets up situations but allows Deni to draw her own conclusions. There is usually a deeper purpose to what he says.
Flaw: Still angry at himself for staying married too long to his last wife.
Values: Honesty, Integrity, clarity, good judgement
Irony: It torments him to see Deni being tormented by her son’s addiction, but as much as he loves Deni, he refuses to marry her as long as she continues enabling an addicted son. He knows what she must do but he can’t do it for her.
What makes him the right character for this role? He is the first man that Deni has truly loved and respected in 30 years and she doesn’t want to lose him or her son. Because she respects his intelligence, she trusts him and knows he’s right and he gives her the strength to do tough love.

Tasha’s Character Profile Part 2
Doing this assignment, I learned that working through the five components makes it really easy to discover more about the character’s and develop their profiles.
1. Listened to the Empowerment Audio and visualized taking those steps to success.
2. Filled in Part 2 of the character Profile for my two lead characters.
Bethany
What draws us to this character?
She is an underdog in dating. She’s a wonderful person and absolute girlfriend material who wants love, but supernatural forces keep her from it. Also, she’s being used by the deacon she trusts to advance his career.
Traits: Thoughtful, considerate, humble, inexperienced, too trusting, awkward, resilient
Subtext: She makes jokes to hide her loneliness. When she’s truly hurt or insulted, she can become cringingly self-deprecating.
Flaw: She’s susceptible to demonic possession
Values: Kindness, altruism, humor and bravery
Irony: Deep down she likes having a demon attached to her because at least someone/something is interested in her.
What makes her the right character for this role?
She has an untapped inner spirituality that is so strong, it can combat evil. She will never give up on finding love.
<div>
</div>Deacon Anders
What draws us to this character?
He’s really good at projecting a kind and caring facade. Of all the people that reject Bethany, he mirrors her demon in that he seems like one of the only people interested in her well-being…and hearing about her dating life. But when he puts on a red robe, draws a pentagon on the floor, and starts brainstorming ways of oppressing Bethany with a demon, you know something is a little off with him.
Traits: Wise, Ambitious, Strategic, Hypocritical, Not in touch with his true motivations
Subtext: He never says what he truly thinks and must constantly translate his thoughts to something more holy and befitting of a deacon. He often pauses to choose specific words when he’s speaking and the effect is that he comes off as sage, thoughtful and sincere.
Flaw: Practices the Dark Arts to commune with a Demon. Disdains most women and children.
Values: Power, status, titles, adoration
Irony: He is a pious wolf in sheep’s clothing. He disdains most females and only tolerates Bethany because he sees her as a means of getting what he wants.
What makes him the right character for this role?
In addition to using her as a stepping stone to advance his religious career, he actually thinks he’s doing the Lord’s work by controlling Bethany and keeping her from finding someone to corrupt under the guise of love.
3. Make any improvements you think of to your Part 1 profile and bring the two parts together.
Bethany
Role in the story: Victim/Dreamer/Warrior- Can’t find love due to her past possession but still hopes she’ll meet someone. She will eventually battle evil later in the story in order to pursue love.
Age range and Description: 26
Internal Journey: Goes from lonely, fearful, naive, spiritual victim and loveless/unlovable to spiritually powerful, aware, self-love
External Journey: Goes from misguided by priest, demon attachment and striking out in love to in discovering her spiritual power and taking charge of her spiritual health, kicking the demon to the curve and finding love after learning to love herself
Motivation: She wants her first boyfriend
Wound: She was abandoned by her family and feels unloved
Mission/Agenda: To brave the world of blind/online dating and find a guy
Secret: She was possessed by a demon and it’s still around
What makes them special? Due to her family’s abandonment, she has dedicated her life to making foster kids feel loved. When her spiritual power becomes activated, she also performs exorcism and educates parents the dangers of child abandonment especially when it comes to post-exorcism attachment
Deacon Anders
Role in the story: Authority/Villain/Predator – The Deacon who exorcized Bethany and now thinks it’s his God-given mission to protect God’s children from her vulnerability to the corruptive forces of evil by controlling her and keeping her attached to her demon.
Age range and Description: 72
Internal Journey: Goes from righteousness, blind belief, absolute assuredness to desperate, defiant and lost
External Journey: Goes from exerting a controlling and manipulative influence over Bethany to being exposed for practicing dark magic, bested by Bethany’s spiritual power and stripped of his church’s affiliation
Motivation: To fight evil in the name of God
Wound: Hasn’t been allowed to climb the ranks of religious hierarchy
Mission/Agenda: To be recognized for the exorcism and management of a demon so he can be promoted to Priest and maybe one day Pope
Secret: He practices black magic
What makes them special? He makes Bethany think he actually loves and cares about her. Also, he thinks he’s actually doing good.
-
Suzanne Baird – Character profile PART 2
What I learned doing this assignment is… I need to spend more time thinking about who they are. I found the exercise helpful for sure but I might benefit from conversation or other feedback.
Daria
What draws us to this character? Daria is a quiet underdog. We see ourselves in her as a hardworking, dedicated woman trying to protect her child. When she fails at this, she transforms her anger and grief into an even greater cause, fighting the power structure committed to silencing her vote and, therefore, her voice.
Traits: focused, disciplined, strong, intelligent, quiet,
Subtext: Daria apologizes when she doesn’t understand something. She eats Haribo gummies when she feels stressed. She knows she’s not easy to like at first.
Flaw: stubborn, unedited, quiet, a little odd personality-wise.
Values: Justice, honesty, accountability, you get a second chance but not a third.
Irony: Daria assumed people would do the “right thing.” When she meets her villain, Senator Monroe, she tries to fight fair but soon realizes she has to resort to other means. Unknown to her, she becomes the recipient of Dark Money that she used for her first local campaign, and she is now faced with the problem: Do I hide it?
What makes this the right character for this role? She is odd enough to be sympathetic. She is a worker that has to be focused to survive. She comes from the idea that we live in a meritocracy and discovers as we discover that we don’t.
Senator Monroe
What draws us to this character? He is the politician we want to believe in. Charming, attractive, and likable, his wrap is that he gets things done for his constituents, but really he’s just a fundraising machine that will outspend any opponent and cross any line to keep his world spinning.
Traits: educated, manipulative, selfish, wealthy
Subtext: He knows only charm with manipulation for his own gain.
Flaw: narcissist, insecure, easy liar
Values: Money, power, status,
Irony: As he fights for all of his values, he says he’s fighting for “you.” He fills whatever void you are missing. In Daria’s case, a husband, a father, a boy. And plays to that emotional weakness. All for his personal gain. But he thinks he is being kind and good. Sympathetic even.
What makes this the right character for this role? He is the direct opposite of Daria. Politics is his path to power. It’s where he doesn’t have to deal with the real world because he has built such insulation—the opposite of Daria’s existence.

Chuck Czech’s Character Profile Part 2
What I learned — I’m slowly adapting to writing more quickly and not wordsmithing every entry.
RONAN CAMBRIDGE — ANTAGONIST
What draws us to this character? Ronan is an innocent human caught in a cold and hostile world. Being autistic, he doesn’t sync well with others, so he’s been perpetually isolated, a true underdog throughout his life as well as within this story. He’s kind — he swerves to avoid animals on the road and cultivates a bond with a tiny lizard. Also, Ronan is dedicated to doing the right thing and sticking with it — nothing can steer him from his objective once his sights are set.
Traits: Intelligent, gentle, unswerving, awkward, kind, lonely
Subtext: Ronan understands more than others think he does; people tend to write him off as “less than” but in truth Ronan is often a couple steps ahead of them.
Flaw: Ronan finds it difficult to interact with others; sometimes he’s too direct or too literal for comfortable conversation. Unless people become more open to atypical thinkers, Ronan will fail to garner respect and will be doomed to outsider status.
Values: Ronan doesn’t swerve a millimeter from his assigned task, whether it’s organizing the lab’s backup files or preventing a dangerous organism from escaping. Also, he practices pure honesty — lies and innuendo are considered betrayals.
Irony: Though Ronan has difficulty expressing himself in social situations, he has an uncanny ability to read people’s true intentions; it is impossible to lie or wear a mask without him detecting it.
What makes this the right character for this role? Ronan is the only person who can keep the monster at bay — who else could drive a car constantly for three years? He possesses unswerving dedication to a task, precise attention to detail, and a familiarity with isolation and loneliness.
BRENDAN RIDEOUT – ANTAGONIST
What draws us to this character? Brendan gets things done. When he appears, there’s a noticeable sense of progress injected into the story — which is in sharp contrast to Ronan’s endless wanderings. He’s fit, smart and attractive, someone who instantly conveys confidence.
Traits. Quick thinking, confident, charming, athletic, adept fighter
Subtext: Though he comes off as approachable and affable, Brendan is more or less cold and efficient at heart. He is always trying to perceive threats and doesn’t have a problem manipulating people into achieving his goals.
Flaw: He is overconfident and unaware of his shortcomings and blind spots.
Values: Control, efficiency, effectiveness, order; hates loose ends and open wounds
Irony: Brendan is charming but cold at heart; Ronan is awkward but feels deeply for others. Brendan prides himself as being an effective decision maker; Ronan’s atypical thinking leads to complex, comprehensive plans of action.
What makes this the right character for this role? If anyone’s going to emancipate Ronan from his perpetual road trip, it’s Brendan. He breaks down barriers, disrupts routine, and forces others to try new plans of action.

H. Vince’s Character Profiles Part 2
The 30-Day Screenplay – 2023
Lesson 3: Character Profiles Part 2
What I learned from doing this assignment is…
Bringing out more information on these main characters
PART 2:
VICTOR
What draws us to this character? He’s just an average guy seems like but we find out his life was saved when he was supposed to be aborted
Traits: Mostly chill, isn’t trying to have any issues, somewhat lost, gets disappointed himself, friendly, stands up for himself
Subtext: Victor was about to be homeless
Flaw: Naïve but that’s common for his age
Values: Thinks that listening to hood never ending type rap music is a bad habit he needs to break, seems to maybe want more in life
Irony: Doesn’t seem to want to be bothered but from one slight remark, his whole world started to change
What makes this the right character for this role?
DONNA
What draws us to this character? She’s the one person that Victor should be able to trust and rely on in the whole world and she is not his actual mother
Traits: A secret liar, tries to act militant at times
Subtext: Doesn’t want Victor to discover who she really is. She has been teaching Victor skills all along that are separate from the internet/computer.
Flaw: Has developed a sense of caring for Victor
Values: Loyalty to she is working for
Irony: She told herself having a family wasn’t important and was happy to not have kids but being Victor’s mom for this long made her change her mind and she felt attachment to him.
What makes this the right character for this role? The closest person to keep watch over Victor as he grows up would have to be a parent.
-
Tom Trundle’s Character Profile Part 2
What I learned doing this assignment is that in order to have a compelling cast of characters, they have to have certain characteristics which allow them to grow or cause growth in other characters.
Jake: (Main Male Lead)

3.What I learned doing this assignment is that
character profiles are complex and sometime contradictory -
Janis A. Pryor : Character Profiles – Lead Character(s)
What I learned: I enjoy dissecting characters!
Lead Characters:
What draws us to them (JP & TC)
JP: You can’t quite figure her out. She’s a peculiar mystery from every aspect, but is respected for her accomplishments. She always leaves you questioning who she really is.
TC: He is a sophisticated, charismatic man, very good looking who’s confident with being masculine. Genuinely concerned and compassionate. He is “the whole package.”
Traits
JP – intimidating, intelligent, sarcastic/dry humor, self-contained, secretive, direct, makes people flinch with her candor, nurturing, an odd package of charm
TC – kind, intelligent, a flirt, responsible, a little reckless, charming, can take over and lead in a NY minute when necessary, protective, physically strong
Subtext
JP – keeps her distance to avoid disappointment
TC – uses his flirting and charm to avoid commitment
Flaw(s)
JP – she’s quietly insecure, driven/focused, closet Type A personality, intense, independent to a fault
TC – in his personal life he hesitates, master of avoidance, hides his needs behind his charm
Values
JP – truth, candor, persistent, generous, values friendship, tries to “walk her talk,”
deeply values her Native heritage.
TC – decency, strength, appreciates his religious upbringing, real love, proud of his professional accomplishments
Irony
They both have to overcome their insecurities and doubts to connect with each other defying their appearances that communicate confidence and fearlessness.
What makes them the right characters for this role?
They both come from complex families where money was no problem. They’ve had every material benefit money could buy. Both have been emotionally betrayed. They are each other’s last chance for love.
-
CHAR PROFILE PART 2
I learned that the key to success in character profiles is simplicity – making it as easy as possible, and a handy snapshot for inspiration for the screenplay elements.
Tony (Protag)
We are drawn to Tony by his confliction and his good heart. He rapidly goes from “having it all” to the underdog when his outer shell of success is crumbled.
Traits – smart, funny, driven, conflicted
Subtext – is still hiding the insecure little kid inside him
Flaw – he keeps looking for a father figure
Values – work ethic, constantly keep moving, kind & caring
Irony – he must eventually chose what is more important to him
Tony is the right char for this role because he has the good heart, although hidden, to make the right choice.
Uncle Francis (Antag)
We are drawn to Uncle Francis by the way he give an aura of a loving uncle and family man.
Traits – polished, family focused, brutal & decisive
Subtext – his view of family means everyone does what is right for him
Flaw – he is brutal and has no issues in ordering people killed
Values – loyalty above all else (loyalty to him), his word is the way
Irony – he will have to decide what is more important to him
Uncle Francis is the right char for this role because he embodies a father figure to Tony but wrapped in a brutal shell of an evil man

Joy Geldard-Smith’s Character Profile Part 2
What I learned doing this assignment is… firstly, I am really digging the empowerment audio!
Secondly, these character profiles are really useful! I’ve resisted doing lots of these in the past because it’s felt like procrastination to be writing about a character’s third birthday party when it has no relation to the script. I can’t remember who said it, but the screenplay is supposed to be about the most interesting period of a person’s life – so why waste time thinking about and writing all the boring stuff?
But these are all really relevant to the screenplay and will actually help me to write the screenplay, and I can definitely get on board with that. Writing it down like this also helps make the characters more complex, as I can ‘bake in’ some contradictions to their nature and make them ‘just like a real boy’.
1. Listen to the 3 minute Empowerment Audio. – DONE. I love this!
2. Fill in Part 2 of the character Profile for your two lead characters.

Renee’s Character Profiles Part 2
What I learned…. to exagerate an target the traits of not only my main characters but my secondary characters. They ALL have a purpose and need to bring their personalities along with their professions to fulfill their roles and properlycomplete the story.
As I am doing a rewrite, I see errors I did not notice before. I did not keep characters true to their traits and focused on their roles. I also did not give them their due. I now have my opportunity to make them shine.
Great Assignment. Made me think. I’ve been busy with this one. Thank you
