    Natalie’s 10 Most Interesting Things

WIL: Having hooks and interesting information laid out gives a solid base and creative ideas for the pitch

    1. Hooks:

    A. Unique Villain and Hero: The uniqueness lies in the fusion of Hawaiian, Greek, and other worldwide mythologies, which sets the hero, Sola, and the villain, Ku, apart from traditional archetypes. Sola’s status as an orphan bridging mortal and divine realms, and Ku’s ambition to exploit ancient powers, offer fresh and multifaceted character dynamics. Hecate’s s uniqueness lies in her cunning and strategic manipulation, distinct from the more overt displays of power by other Greek Gods. As a master of magic and the mistress of crossroads, she operates in the shadows, pulling strings behind the scenes to further her agenda

    B. Major Hook of Opening Scene: The opening scene’s major hook is the mesmerizing voice chanting an ancient Hawaiian legend, immediately drawing viewers into the mystical world of the story and setting the stage for the epic adventure that follows.

    C. Turning Points: Several turning points include Sola’s discovery of her mother’s necklace, Hecate’s recognition of Sola’s growing power, and the activation of the ancient curse, each propelling the narrative forward and raising the stakes for the characters.

    D. Emotional Dilemma: Sola faces an emotional dilemma as she grapples with her forbidden romance with Anteros, knowing that it complicates her alliances and motivations, leading to difficult choices and internal conflicts.

    E. Major Twists: The inadvertent triggering of the ancient curse by Sola, the banishment of the Gods’ symbols of power, the artifacts, due to her use of forbidden magic, and the mysterious portal to a mythical world present major twists that upend the characters’ expectations and alter the course of the story.

    F. Reversals: Sola’s use of forbidden magic inadvertently leads to unintended consequences, reversing her initial intentions and setting off a chain of events with unforeseen repercussions.

    G. Character Betrayals: Betrayals occur as characters like Ku manipulate alliances and exploit vulnerabilities for their gain, leading to shifting loyalties and unexpected alliances throughout the narrative.

    H. Big Surprises: The revelation of Sola’s true lineage, the unfolding prophecy about the curse, and the emergence of unforeseen threats from other mythologies serve as big surprises that keep viewers engaged and eager to uncover the next twist in the story.

    2. Make a list of any other things in your script that could interest a producer.

Unique Concept: The blend of Hawaiian mythology with Greek and other mythologies offers a fresh and intriguing premise that sets the show apart from a typical fantasy series.

Strong Protagonist: Sola, as a teenage orphan grappling with newfound powers and a quest to unite warring pantheons, provides a compelling central character with a relatable journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

Visual Spectacle: From the lush landscapes of Hawaii to the divine realms of Greek, Egyptian, Indian, and other mythologies, the show promises stunning visual imagery and epic set pieces that would appeal to audiences seeking immersive fantasy worlds.

Emotional Depth: Alongside the epic fantasy elements, the show delves into themes of identity, family, and sacrifice, offering emotional resonance and depth that can resonate with a wide audience.

Unique Mythological Blend: The fusion of Hawaiian and other world-known mythology creates a fresh and captivating world rich in diverse lore and deities.

What I learned doing this assignment is how to look at my script and determine the most interesting aspects of it. Knowing the most interesting parts of my story can help me create the best query letter for my projects.

What is most unique about your villain and hero?

Hero (Veronica): Veronica's uniqueness is in her relentless pursuit of the truth, which is driven by her personal connection to the cult through her lineage.

Major hook of your opening scene?
Young Veronica witnesses a traumatic event – her mom is killed, and then she is kidnapped by the men who murdered her mother.

    Any turning points?
A major turning point occurs when Veronica reads a passage from her mother’s journal, inadvertently awakening the spirits linked to the ancient deity.

    Emotional dilemma?
Should Veronica continue to delve into the dangerous truth about her past and the cult, risking her life and possibly fulfilling the dark prophecy, or should she protect herself and stop her investigation, leaving the mystery unsolved and potentially allowing the cult to succeed?

    Major twists?
Veronica investigates the cult, believing it is just a story, only to discover her direct lineage to its origins, making her central to their prophecy. This revelation changes her role from observer to key player.

    Reversals
Veronica suspects Father Malachi might have dubious intentions and confronts him, only to learn he is also fighting against the cult from within, having escaped it years ago. This revelation changes her perception of him from potential antagonist to ally.

    Character betrayals?
Dr. Stone, whom Veronica trusts for her expertise, has unknowingly manipulated the research to steer Veronica toward fulfilling the cult's prophecy.

    Or any big surprises?
While investigating Father Malachi's past, Veronica discovers a chest of relics in his possession. Expecting to find something incriminating, she instead finds evidence that he has been actively protecting these items from the cult, proving his commitment to stopping them.

Veronica’s Mysterious Link to the Cult.

The celestial event in relation to the cult’s activities adds a layer of urgency to the narrative.

Father Malachi’s Dual Role: His past involvement with the cult and current role as a priest creates a complex character that can add layers to the story, revealing secrets and moral dilemmas as he tries to reconcile his past with his faith.

Dr. Stone’s Professional Crisis: Her rival's discrediting of Dr. Stone adds a subplot that explores academic rivalry and integrity. This might also hint at a deeper involvement with the cult or other supernatural elements.

Ancient Symbols and Prophecies: The recurring motif of ancient symbols and their meanings can be a continuous element of discovery, linking past and present and possibly explaining the cult’s long-term goals.

The Lost Followers: These characters can provide varied perspectives on the cult, perhaps sharing conflicting stories that deepen the mystery and suspense, questioning who can really be trusted.

The Dynamic of Cult Influence: The influence of the cult on the town and its residents can be shown through the various strange occurrences and how they impact daily life, setting a tone of creeping dread and paranoia.

Samuel’s Kidnapping and Torture: This subplot can be used to heighten tension and stakes, showing the cult's ruthlessness and the dangers Veronica faces in her investigation. Samuel's experience could also provide key insights into the cult's inner workings and current plans.

The Unraveling of the Prophecy: As Veronica, Dr. Stone, and Father Malachi piece together the map and other clues, the prophecy can be slowly revealed, adding layers to the narrative as they try to prevent or hasten its fulfillment depending on their alignments.

Bob Creager’s 10 Most Interesting Things
What I learned: You have to dig through previous lessons a bit but it is all there.
    A. What is most unique about your villain and hero? Our hero is both a healer and a warrior and willing to sacrifice her career for those she loves.
The antagonist is one of two alien races in the story whose goal is to eliminate mankind in order to have free rein to mine the Earth.
    B. Major hook of your opening scene? In a flashforward, our hero is facing a court martial that is interrupted by the hacking of the computers and TV monitors by her brother warning of danger.
    C. Any turning points?
When the Marines refuse to launch a rescue of Leisa’s brother, she creates a rogue unit to do it herself.
The team discovers alien weaponry and use it to escape pursuing military police.
We discover alien interest in Leisa’s family, Sky’s family, Bird Dog’s family and knowledge that Connie is a spy for someone.
Leisa receives a warning from her brother in a written message attached to an alien weapon; discovers the healing power of a glass/plastic shard; and their rescue by the Marines.
    D. Emotional dilemma? Maintain her healing career or risk her and her team’s lives on a dangerous rescue mission.
    E. Major twists? The biggest twists surround the disappearances. Her brother was not kidnapped by terrorists, her father was not captured and killed by the Taliban, and her mother was not dead. Instead, they have all been recruited by aliens to defend Earth except that her brother is in the hands of the bad aliens. And to sweeten the pot, her mother is an alien/human hybrid. Each of the recruited rogue team members have friends/relatives that have been recruited.
    F. Reversals? Rescue mission becomes alien recruitment.
    G. Character betrayals? It looks like Connie is the mole. Surprise! Not going to be him. I think it’s going to be Sky Queen, Leisa’s best friend on the team and the one who came up with the idea to go rogue. That’s a post-pilot reveal that could change.
    H. Or any big surprises?
Other things in your script that could interest a producer. Science fiction in a military sub-world.

What I learned doing this assignment is that by looking at just these special things, I was able to identify the major “bankable” items that a producer/manager will look at. This will help greatly with the marketing plan.
    Going through the hooks:
    A. What is unique about the villain and the hero? The hero happens to be a robob, part human and part machine. The villain denies that the robob has any humanity at all.
    B. The major hook of your opening scene is that the robobs have planned and obtained a permit for a peaceful demonstration of their need for more human rights.
    C. Any turning points? At the end of Act 1, Ben is found dead. At the end of Act 2, it comes out that Ben might have been passing company secrets to someone. At the end of Act 3, Alexia is caught by Vince, Robinia’s Chief of Security, in the server room. At the end of Act 4, Alexia’s father is about to take her DNA without her permission and perform surgery on Cipher.
    D. Emotional Dilemma: Gabe’s father is dead and he suspects Dr. Montgomery might have something to do with it.
Alexia’s meeting with her father shows her he cares for his robob project more than anything, even her, and he will go to any lengths to support his project.
    E. Major twists: Mara suspects Ben; Gabe suspects Dr. Montgomery, who confesses to some shady deals in his past, when Mara’s parents were murdered; Cipher, in obeying Dr. Montgomery’s commands, puts Alexia at risk, and Alexia’s father does a DNA extraction on her without her permission.
    F. Reversals: Dr. Montgomery is Alexia’s real father. He turns out to be not as good a person as she expected.
    G. Character betrayals: Cipher inadvertently betrays Alexia by taking her to her father, even though she had requested Cipher take her to him. Dr. Montgomery also betrays Alexia by not asking her permission to take her DNA.
    2. other big surprises? There are a number of open loops:
Who killed Ben? What secret did he have?
Where did the brains Montgomery use come from? And why did he use those and not stem cells?
What things are Mara and Montgomery holding back?
What will Cipher be like when he comes to?
Do Jeremy and Finn also hold secrets?
What things don’t we know about Gabe?

What I learned doing this assignment is – what truly makes this series stand out from any other vampire-based series we’ve already seen. More than AI help it goads me to find deeper subtexts to add as I go along.

What is most unique about your villain and hero?
The villain is a popular preacher whose campaign against the vampires as aberrations masks his true intentions of paving the way for his masters to take control of the local government before aiming for the Federal offices.
The protagonist is a veteran cop who battles his own prejudices to solve the vampire murders by working closely within the vampire community.
Major hook of your opening scene?
Our human connection, idealist Roger and conservative dad Eli lay the emotional groundwork just before the first vampire dies of unknown causes.
    Any turning points?
Real state mogul Arthur is flummoxed when his campaign for councilman is undermined by questionable bank deposits that implicates him in running drugs.
    Emotional dilemma?
Eli give in and can let Roger go ahead with his desire to become a vampire or he can fight like hell to convince his son he has other options.
    Major twists –
