What I learned from this lesson was phenomenal, as I wanted to deepen some of my characters – this class helped by making me see them in different situations with different goals and changing the relationships already written. This breakthrough inspired me to do all my characters with this analysis below.
A. Joe’s Role: Father of only daughters, trained them to be independent but not of him.
B. Core Traits: Overly protective, loving, old fashioned, celibate, tough and determined
C. Motivation: Wants to know his family will be safe
D. Flaw/Wound: Flaw is his Fear of living full out; wound is his guilt
E. Secret/Hidden agenda: Deifies the daughter’s mother in spite that she cheated on him. His F. Hidden Agenda: To control everything and everyone in his life, even though he says the opposite.
G. Internal Dilemma: Wants his daughters to be financially independent, physically and intellectually, but emotionally he won’t cut the umbilical cords to let them fail or succeed without his meddling control.
H. Why Joe’s the perfect father: Joe deeply loves his daughters in that unconditional way, while his spoiled daughters continue to argue and create havoc in his life and their own.

Character Profiles:
1. Create Character Profiles for each of your lead characters by filling in the blanks for these eight questions.
A. Name: Michael
B. Role in the Story: Protagonist.
C. Core Traits: Stoic; underneath kind, sensitive.
D. Motivation: Want/Need: He wants to beat cancer and be loved.
E. Flaw/Wound: Abusive childhood; fear of abandonment
F. Secret/Hidden Agenda: afraid someone will realize how vulnerable he is; find out his secret regarding testicular cancer surgery.
G. Internal Dilemma:trying to decide what is the right thing to do: go back to Gloria, the mother of his daughter that he doesn’t love or seek out Seraphine, his soulmate.
H. What makes this character perfect for their role in this story? Michael is a successful musician with an adoring fan base, but cancer has made him vulnerable, especially to Gloria’s blackmail. Plus, he doesn’t want to hurt Rose (daughter), because he realizes the importance of feeling loved and secure, since he missed that in his own childhood.

B: Can this character fulfill their role in the story more effectively? Yes. Michael gave her an assignment early on, to record the last year of his life, which she shares at the end. She also breaks free of her fear to commit and accepts Joe’s proposal.
What I learned from this assignment is that I have done a lot of homework on developing these characters and their arcs. I can still add some more, but I feel I know each of these characters and what makes them important to the story.

Tita’s Character Profiles
What I learned:·
-Creating the profiles helps me sharpen my view of the story and ability to describe it more clearly· Confirmed I know the people – I was afraid I’d have to make up a lot·
-Looking forward to finding places in the script to build in or strengthen character·
-The role in story combined with why this character in the story really helped me clarify the character’s value, specially for when people tell me to cut the cast of this stage play down to 3-5
– Even a small additional detail about one of these and the other characters gives me ideas about how to strengthen that character’s impact in a scene

H. What makes this character perfect for their role in this story? Represents post war veterans who pulled themselves up by their bootstraps but once rich, want to prove they are better than others, doesn’t believe that all men are created equal
Note – I’ve done profiles for all important additional characters but I’m the only one who needs all those details. And probably none of this makes sense in a vacuum
<b class=””>Ways to improve the Character Profiles.
A: Any parts of the profiles to improve? In script will be adding the above levels to the profile – no longer as much “on the nose”
B: How the characters can fulfill their role in the story more effectively: I will weave through the script more nuances — want but need, secret, unexpressed wound, etc.
