Cat Miggs TV Pitch Bible Investigation
What I learned doing this assignment is by just starting with one concept it can expand into deeper levels. I will definitely be using these tools to expand more concepts with my show.
Tool 1- Dig- What’s beneath that?
Susan is the key to saving the forest.
Level 1- her ancestry line shows that her soul is from a magical long line of people who worship trees. And when the people die, their souls enter a tree seed and grow to be a tree.
Level 2-Susan comes from the first tree soul making it the Ancient tree. Followed by Wilma the tree and the Other tree who were both high counsel to the Ancient tree.
Level 3-However, the Other tree disagreed with the Ancient tree and got a bunch of trees to fight and kill the Ancient tree. The soul from the Ancient tree after the tree died, turned into a Shadow and became dormant, until Susan’s had access to magic that the shadow was awakened.
Level 4-When the Shadow is awakened it filled with anger, negative and hate energy due to being killed with those energies. The Shadow only remembers revenge.
Tool 2 – Extrapolate: If/Then
If Susan comes from the first tree soul, then the Shadow is her direct ancestor.
If the Shadow is awakened with negative energy, then where is the positive energy?
Tool 3- Wonder: What if
What if the forest is Heaven and Hell?
What if the forest is Heaven in Hell or Hell in Heaven?
What if Susan magic opens a portal?
Tool 4- Backtrack- How could (blank) have happened?
How could Susan being shot in the circle of trees awoke her magic happen?
Tool 5- Forecast: How could this get even worse?
If the Shadow only remembers revenge and is connected to Susan, will Susan be the ultimate weapon of destruction.
——–
In my pitch bible I’m looking at using tool 3 to go back to fix concept and world. Tool 1, 2, 4 and 5 incorporate into episode and five season descriptions.

“What I learned doing this assignment is that there is always a deeper story to uncover. There are so many possibilities to take the story in various directions or to make the story more intense when you uncover additional layers. This was a difficult assignment for me because I didn’t know where to start uncovering layers and more story. So I started with the areas where I wanted to know more or where the story wasn’t clearly defined. I still have some open loops that I don’t have the answers to, but I think with future investigation those answers will reveal themselves.
Some additions I made to the show bible were:
1. Henry knows how badly Tony wants more power in the company, so instead of blackmailing Willie for money, he knew that Willie making him CEO would be the ultimate slap in Tony’s face.
2. Tony learns about the blackmail through his own sources, and devises a plan to get Willie from under Henry’s threats.
3. The LOCC commissioners retain a portion of the fines from their respective jurisdiction, hence why they are excessively fining businesses.
Some episode additions I made were:
1. We learn that John, Henry’s father, actually gave Willie the money to invest, prior to his disappearance. (I haven’t figured out why he disappeared or where he disappeared to)
2. We learn how the League of Cannabis Commissioners (LOCC) came to exist. (I am not sure of how they came to be, whether it was by election or appointment, but I think it’s important that the audience knows this info.)
3. In the future episodes, we will learn more about the process and requirements to obtain a cannabis license, particularly the money that’s required. And the different types of licenses that can be obtained.
4. When Tony exposes the LOCC, he inadvertently exposes more of Pete’s secrets.
Decided not to keep:
1. Tony and Henry plotting to bring down Willie. I didn’t use this because I preferred the idea of Tony saving his father (Willie) as opposed to destroying Willie to save Henry. I do believe both ideas could work. But I went with the one that was most like his character at that stage of his journey.
Whew! 😰 Glad this lesson is finished.

What I learned doing this assignment is… how to keep looking even after you think you’ve found plenty. Just going through the process in previous exercises, I had already come up with a lot, but decided to try to find even more by going farther afield.
Tool 1: DIG: What’s beneath that?
Level 1: Oliver seems to believe that he was a CIA agent.
2. IRL Oliver was, in fact, an undercover CIA Agent (FBI?) on a mission to discover how Nolan was transmitting secrets and laundering money on behalf of the GRU – the Russian intelligence service.
3. IRL Oliver fell in love with Nolan’s partner, Tony. So does fictional Tony.
Level 2: Nolan, known for his jealous rages and for killing off his rivals in fiction, is commanded to kill for real when the Russians discover the truth about IRL Oliver’s identity. They gave him a vial of Covid, and it works like a charm, landing IRL Oliver in the hospital.
Level 3: Nolan has been trying to be a truly celebrated author, rather than just a front man for the Russians, who couldn’t care less how well his books sell, only how well they appear to sell.
Tool 2: EXTRAPOLATE: If ____________, then ______________.
If fictional characters become real when they go through the portal, then more fictional characters are going to want to go through and become real.
If fictional characters are based on real people, but they’re not quite the same, then they will exhibit slightly different traits.
If Nolan has gotten a taste for killing, then why not kill off the blogger who has been so critical of his work?
If characters can pass through the portal, then why not send Tony to kill in the real world?
Tool 3: What if?
What if Oliver picks up IRL Oliver’s spying duties?
What if Oliver rewrites the story to become a writer.
What if, when he’s a writer, Oliver puts the characters through as much hell as he has suffered?
Tool 4: BACKTRACK
How did the portal come to be? (ponder this)
Tool 5: FORECAST
At the end of the 5th season, Nolan is killed by fictional Tony.
