    Lynn’s Continuing Act 2

VISION: I am determined to become a great screenwriter capable of getting my screenplays in various genres produced into movies that inspire vast audiences to mitigate climate change.

I LEARNED that due to rushing too fast I now have time to pause briefly for some needed research.

I have only two scenes left to finish the script, but since I needed a modicum of research on things like various alternative energy issues and the wedding script (for the 2nd to last scene), I took a brief break to do that. I’ve now gone back to add a bit of description, dialogue, and notes and am now educated enough to go forward with ease for these final two scenes. No wordsmithing or locking in though.

    Ron’s Continuing Act 1

VISION: I want the success and recognition of being an in demand, A-list screenwriter who writes successful films that are financially profitable, award winning and of enduring quality.

Going well. On schedule. I’ve continuing to readjust the outline, but it seems to be working. I’m still excited about how this script is developing.

    Amy’s Continuing Act 2

Vision: I want to become known as an expert in the family-friendly genre and make a full-time living as a screenwriter.

What I learned from doing this assignment is…I wrote a couple of scenes that didn’t live up to my expectations, so I had to empower myself again. I haven’t been able to write every day, so I’m a little bit behind at this point.

Vision: I will continue to learn everything I can through all different media to apply what I learn to become the best screenwriter I can be. To be successful in getting my movies made and to win awards in the process.

What I learned from doing this assignment is that the outline I wrote is pretty intuitive as to how this story unfolds. I haven’t really used outlines much before but am seeing the value more and more.

How it’s going: I wrote another third of Act 2 as fast as I could. I’m not wordsmithing but I am correcting spelling – drives me crazy if a word is spelt wrong. Continue to input script notes where I want to go back and elevate.

    Renee’s Continuing Act 2

My Vision: I will work hard to become a well-respected writer who gets my movies produced and has enough work to keep me busy and keep the lights on.

What I learned doing this assignment is to keep myself empowered and not allow myself to stall out while writing the first draft. Just get the story down and fix issues as you rewrite.

How It’s Going: Things are still going good. I’m approaching the Act 2 turning point and am happy with how the script is coming along so far. While I know there will be a lot of things that I will need to change/add during the second draft, I’m making sure to honor the process.

WIM, Joel Stern Lesson 7 Continuing Act 2

Vision: To write eight Hollywood blockbuster scripts and get a speaking line in at least one.

What I learned from this assignment: To maintain speed writing and avoid the temptation of making the scenes perfect in the first draft.

I find that ideas flow faster with this method. I also realize I need to fill in plot holes along the way.

My Vision: I intend to perfect my skills to become a successful screenwriter, scripting acclaimed and profitable films, recognized by my peers, and living an adventurous life.

What I learned during this assignment:

This is one of the fasted scripts I have ever writing. I’m writing the bare bones of a 90-minute thriller, but I’m learning my script needs a few more scenes.

    Dave Holloway Continuing Act 2

My vision: I would like to be a successful writer in Hollywood, with a number of successful movies to my credit that put forward a core belief about environmental, political, or personal values.

What I learned from doing this assignment is that ignoring the impulse to wordsmith freed me to concentrate on the larger meaning of a scene and try to get across whatever the primary emotion or meaning of the scene is.

This method is great for a
first draft and is working well for me.

My Vision: I will do whatever it takes to be comfortable saying that I am a writer by creating impactful stories with amazing characters in order to sell my scripts.

What I learned from this assignment is push yourself to keep creating and don’t worry about it…just do it!

    MODULE FIVE LESSON SEVEN

    FRAN’S CONTINUIONG ACT TWO

WHAT I LEARNED: WHATEVER YOU NEED. GIVE IT TO YOUR SUBSCONSCIOUS WRITING PARTNER AND IT WILL COME!

MY VISION: I want to write great movies. Movies that are magical, movies that move people and tell the truth. I want to write movies that stars will want to be in.

This weekend was very full for me. I wasn’t able to get any substantial writing done Friday because of work and then I had tickets to a show I’ve been wanting to see for a while now.

And then I wasn’t able to get any writing Saturday all day until I went to bed. And then, the words for my other script started flowing out in a gush. I grabbed some paper. And, this was around 2 am, by the time I had finished, I had written about 6 pages. They were not bad. They had reveals and setups in them and all all they need is some spit and polish. This is why I took this particular class. So, I could get this script I’ve been working on for a long time finally finished. I don’t know what it is, but it’s working. And now I can get on with the crisis, climax and resolution for that script. And get more done on the script I’m writing for this class!

My vision is to persevere and stay the course of building steady daily routine, and disciplines that produce consistent writing of exceptional quality. Ultimately, the fruit of those habits and disciplines will be a track record of great marketable scripts that will make other successful talented pros seek me out.

    </div>

OK, today I learned that I spent so many years trying to be “perfect” that I can’t help but wordsmith to some degree. Like an OCD habit, I’ll wordsmith one or two words, just to satisfy my craving, and THEN I realize I’m doing it and MOVE ON.

I feel like I write really really slow, and that I take too many breaks. HOWEVER, I know that a lot of those breaks are necessary to get it right. I did the same thing in school, when I studied, and after a page of feeling “full”. I’d go do something else for a few minutes while I “ingest”. It feels like a similar process now. I AM changing the outline (confession) BUT I am also staying true to the intent of each scene’s purpose. My new varied versions of the scenes hit the point stronger. I’m guessing this is something Hal will have us do in future draft rewrites, and I’m sure I’ll do more of it. So I feel like I’m going slow and steady. For me the STEADY is the crucial part that I can’t forsake.

Vision: I am going to create profound scripts that leave audiences remembering my movies and leave me excited to keep writing and moving up in the industry.

What I learned from doing this assignment is: this has been the most difficult part of the script to write, because a lot of it is setup for the long scene of my midpoint. I’m going to keep sticking to my outline.
