    Pam’s Supporting Characters

One-Sentence Vision: I will turn my ideas into produced movies and live a happy, successful life as a writer and industry professional.
What I learned from doing this assignment: the value of assessing supporting characters’ true worth ahead of time, before including them in my script.
    – – – – –

    COLD-BLOODED BEAUTY (Horror/Dark Comedy)
HIGH CONCEPT: A middle-aged artist tests an amazing new anti-aging night cream, unaware that its secret ingredient — reptile stem cells — is turning herself and her neighbors into reptilian predators while they sleep.

    Protagonist: EVE GARDNER
CHARACTER’S JOURNEY: She goes from being insecure, vulnerable, and afraid to pursue her dreams to a hero who puts herself out there.
    – – – – – –

    SUPPORTING & BACKGROUND CHARACTERS
Supporting Characters: Zivia (Triangle Character), Henry, Uncle Hank, Maxine

Background Characters: Eve’s ex, bartender, waitstaff,
    birthday
party guests, Eve and Zivia’s co-workers, research scientist, Louis LeZarde, wedding guests, Filene’s Basement shoppers.

    ZIVIA
Role: Eve’s best friend since high-school. Local TV host. Eve’s sounding board.
Main purpose: Triangle Character. A catalyst to send Eve on her journey.
Value: Shows a different POV re: the cost of youthful beauty. Goes to a negative extreme that our protagonist ultimately won’t go to. Brings out Eve’s arc.

    HENRY
    Role: Eve’s love interest
Main purpose: He is instrumental in Eve’s arc, and is the opposite of her ex.
Value: Eve’s affection for him helps her to ultimately do the right thing re: use of the anti-aging beauty regimen: she doesn’t trust herself around him after midnight.

    UNCLE HANK
Role: Eve’s older uncle, who went to high school with Jessica LeZarde (Antagonist).
Main purpose: He’s an old codger who compares himself to Eve at her birthday party, which she finds repulsive. He initially poses a threat to Jessica, then falls for her.
Value: His relationship with Jessica shows us a different side of her. His use of the anti-aging night cream makes it more than just a “woman’s product.”

    MAXINE
Role: The detective who’s investigating the strange goings-on around town.
Main purpose: She becomes one of Eve’s allies in the mission to stop LeZarde Cosmetics.
Value: She may be the only one who can save Eve. She also provides a surprise-twist ending.

    WIM Module 3 Lesson 8

    Purpose Driven Supportive Characters

    Supporting Characters:

necessary Characters who interact with the Lead Characters and/or are required to be in multiple scenes to make this journey happen.

Main purpose is to make their part of the story work for the Protagonist’s journey.

The audience is on the journey with the Lead Character. There are Supporting Characters on both sides (Protagonist and Antagonist) who have some role in making their journey happen.

    For each Supporting Character

    Name

    Role

    Main Purpose

    Value

    Background Characters:

Can be played by Extras. Usually no speaking role, but maybe a line or two.

In a contained movie, I might have only three Characters. In that case, I won’t have to worry about supporting and background Characters because all three will play major roles. But in any other script, I will likely have all three categories- leads, supporting, and background characters.

Three Questions for Creating Quick Supporting Characters

What supporting Characters are absolutely necessary to make this journey work?

    I.e. movie Collateral.

    Main Characters: Max and Vincent

Supporting Characters: Annie, Detective Fanning, and Felix.

Background Characters: The Feds, other Cops, Coroner, Felix guards and Thugs, Max’s boss.

What is the purpose of each supporting Character?

Each supporting Character should have a clear purpose or I should consider deleting that Supporting Character.

    I.e. movie Collateral.

    Name: Detective Fanning.

Purpose: He is investigating the murder of his confidential informant that was the first shooting of the night.

What value does this Character bring to the story?

My supporting Character may bring a different POV, other side of the issue or what it looks like from outside the bubble/conflict. They may bring expertise that fills in exposition. Or maybe they are the only one the main character will listen to.

Getting clear on the value for each supporting character will make sure they feel like a part of this story. It also makes the roles more interesting for actors.

    I.e. Movie Collateral.

    Name: Detective Fanning.

Value: His investigation increases the tension and creates anticipation that Vincent might be caught. He also may be the only thing that can save Max.

Three Questions for Creating Quick Supporting Characters

What supporting Characters are absolutely necessary to make this journey work?

Tell my Supporting and Background Characters

    Supporting Characters 1.

    • Name: Gabriel

    • Role: GABRIEL of SALVINGTON is the chief executive of the universe of Nebadon and arbiter of all executive appeals respecting its administration.

    • Gabriel and his staff are not teachers, they are administrators. Gabriel has been closely identified with the history and development of UrantiaEarth ever since the mortal bestowal of Michael.

    • He has at his command a corps of administrative assistants, created for their special work, who are unrevealed (unseen) to evolutionary mortals.

    • Main Purpose: Chief officer of execution for superuniverse mandates relating to nonpersonal affairs in the local universe. Most matters pertaining to mass judgment and dispensational resurrections.

    • Value: Gabriel vs Lucifer.

    Supporting Characters 2.

    • Name: BBB

    • Role: Indigo’s girlfriend.

    • Main Purpose:

    • Value: My body, my choice, and whose consequences?

    Supporting Characters 3.

    • Name: Asclepius

    • Role: Abortion Doctor and political lobbyist. Was on the medical board that ends the career of our protagonist, and also aborts Indigo’s unborn child.

    • Main Purpose: Abortionist. The one responsible for sending souls over to the other side, specifically the unborn.

    • Value: Abortion is between a woman, her doctor and the government (hush-hush but not the father).

    Supporting Characters 3.

    • Name: Ashkenazi

    • Role: Media mogule and lobbyist in support of abortion.

    • Main Purpose: Represents institutionalized genocide and capitalistic greed. Identifies with oppressor because of skin color and blue-eyes Aryan superior complex, Stockholm syndrome. Descendant of holocaust survivors.

    • Value: Has no value other than capitalism. Think greed and sheer hubris.

    Supporting Characters 3.

    • Name: Satan (this may change)

    • Role: Lucifer’s Assistant. For three hundred thousand years Caligastia had been in charge of Urantia when Satan, Lucifer’s assistant, made one of his periodic inspection calls.

    • Very little was heard of Lucifer on Urantia owing to the fact that he assigned his first lieutenant, Satan, to advocate his cause on your planet. Satan was a member of the same primary group of Lanonandeks but had never functioned as a System Sovereign; he entered fully into the Lucifer insurrection.

    • Main Purpose: Lucifer’s Assistant.

    • Value: And when Satan arrived on the planet, his appearance in no way resembled your caricatures of his nefarious majesty. He was, and still is, a Lanonandek Son of great brilliance. “And no marvel, for Satan himself is a brilliant creature of light.”

    Supporting / Background Characters 4

    • Name: Aborted Fetuses

    • Role: MANY Aborted fetuses

    • Main Purpose: Sacrifice

    • Value: Physical material sacrifice for Anti-Christ.

    Supporting Character 5

    Name: Anti-Christ

Role: Soulless Living anti-matter to rule the world as all powerful and immune from prosecution president of US.

Main Purpose: The incarnation/creation of the opposite of matter (living anti-matter minus the soul) to become all powerful president of US.

Value: The end of humanity and human freewill. No integrity, no morals, sheer greed, hubris, and EVIL! All protected by a system that allows it, because the system itself has no integrity. In God We Trust?

    Background Characters 1.

    • Name: The Caligastia 100

    • Role: The Caligastia One-Hundred were personally immortal, or undying. The serious obstacle to the good influence of such extraplanetary teachers is the tendency of mortals to regard them as gods, but aside from the technique of their appearance on earth the Caligastia one hundred—fifty men and fifty women—did not resort to supernatural methods nor superhuman manipulations.

    • But the corporeal staff were nonetheless superhuman. They began their mission on Urantia as extraordinary threefold beings

    • Main Purpose: To improve the retarded and degenerate strains of humanity.

    • Value: The arrival of the Prince’s staff created a profound impression. While it required almost a thousand years for the news to spread abroad, those tribes near the Mesopotamian headquarters were tremendously influenced by the teachings and conduct of the one hundred new sojourners on Urantia. And much of your subsequent mythology grew out of the garbled legends of these early days when these members of the Prince’s staff were repersonalized on Urantia as supermen.

    Background Characters 2.

    • Name: SAN (Sorry Ass Niggas)

    • Role: Those males who represent fatherhood abandonment

    • Main Purpose: Lucifer too was abandoned by God the Father, he uses fatherhood abandonment to side with those abandoned, including our Protagonist Indigo who was abandoned.

    • Value: Fatherhood abandonment.

    Background Characters 3.

    • Name: The black community and church

    • Role: Black lives Matter, mass abortion rates (aborted fetuses come from somewhere), fatherhood abandonment,

    • Main Purpose: Sacrifice, two-thirds will be sacrificed, For the soul of America. . Horror and hysteria. What happens to the black community foreshadows what will happen to the rest of society.

    • Value: The community forgets who they are and align with a system that has systemically worked them against their intuition and spiritual purpose.
