David Thompson’s Setting Up The Future
What I learned doing this assignment is that although I have plenty of open loops, mysteries, and reveals, it’s just a matter of selecting which to include in the pilot, and which to reveal later in the season.
Possible setups follow:
- Who killed Brianna?
- Will the Furies help Brianna?
- Where’s the god, Hades? Why is Bune in charge of that area of the Underworld?
- Dan is about to enter the mythological world of the Furies. As such, Dan will encounter a most dangerous demon, the demon possessing the serial killer.
- Dan is an evidence based critical thinker, which makes it hard for him to accept the concept that supernatural beings exist. Yet, he’s come face-to-face with one, then another, then more, yet he still remains skeptical.
- How will Dan react to Megaera?
- Why did Megaera go from wanting to kill Dan to wanting to have a relationship with him?
- What’s at work under the surface between Dan and Megaera?
- It’s somewhat out of character for Megaera to fall in love with a mortal. Why is this happening?
- Is it even safe for Dan to have a relationship with a Fury? No, but he sincerely doubts she’s immortal until later in the first season, when he’s taken to meet the other gods.
- Hidden initially, Dan’s past relationships feed into his reactions concerning Megaera.
- Hidden is the ex-relationship Dan had with the Medical Examiner, Joyce McKenna.
- The Medical Examiner is also the police counselor, so after the grocery store shooting, Dan is forced into sessions with his ex.
- What is it about Dan, being a skeptic, yet able to see the gods when most people can’t.
- The serial killer is tracked through the first season, which ends with his capture and death at the hands of Tisiphone. But this releases the monster demon, Sorath. In the pilot, it’s hinted that he’s under this demon’s control.
- Gallows humor to match the original source material, my novels. The Furies treat each assignment the same way a truck driver treats a delivery. Just another day on the job, really.

Syd’s Setting Up The Future M3_L9
5. What I learned doing this assignment is how to review the whole and look for ways to start future story lines early — still need to figure out the economic agenda for the Chinese traders.
Make a list of events / character reveals / under-the-surface info that COULD be set up in the pilot. Just use the obvious ones. You don’t need to create the entire season right now.
Fill those into the Outline and tell us which ones you are going to use.
Men and women mock Charita’s attempts at starting a business revealing she has ambition.
When she attempts to set up a trade, she’s cheated, by Portuguese sailors — she conceals her loss, so that it will not be used against her, but she’ll remember this (later, she’ll spy on the Portuguese).
Charita attempts to get work as a dancer, via Bhadrabahu — Mughals get too close. Bhad intervenes, but Vanhi shuts it down. (Charita argues that there are female painters in Mughal court — they’re members of the royal family.)
Charita argues for an opportunity to get into trade, for the Emperors wife has shown it lucrative. Vanhi allows Bhad to teach her about commerce (he knows a lot for a party boy)— but notes that she does not have the resources of the Empress
Before he speaks to Abzar, Veer talks with the king’s cousin, Anala, about his secret — revealing that they had a relationship. This decision makes her angry — why? Veer needed to have Abzar’s “respect and friendship” first.
Queen Vanhi is trying to arrange a marriage for Charita — someone young, smart and powerful — an alliance that will protect Charita.
Start with missing royal jewelry and gems? — breach in security at the palace means the royals are vulnerable to attack. Reveals an inside job.
When did the theft happen when Narendra was still alive? When Raj was still in GC. Abzar dismisses this as Nar already had great wealth and Raj left with it. No need to steal.
The audience witnesses Rajendra steal precious gems in Shridhar’s kingdom.
King blames Gen. Veer for the outrageous security breach and “inside job” — effectively silencing Veer who wanted to reveal his secret. It’s Charita that notices Damyanti — in the palace and how did she get access to the palace? Charita tracks her and loses her — how did she escape?
Anala suspects the queen — she has ties to the Mughal court and maintains a suspicious relationship with Bhad, a notorious playboy; Causing divisions in the royal family
King Abzar receives a letter from repentant Rajendra — Vanhi does not want Raj back at court — he’s a threat to both the crown prince and Charita; causing division in the royal family
Amir witnesses Raj set-up Bhad in King Shridar’s kingdom. Amir is set-up to be a player.
Veer believes that the jewels were planted, King Abzar has more dubious friends who would want the stolen information, including foreign traders, the Mughals and even members of the king’s own family.
The kidnapping sets up Charita — does someone know her true identity? Or is she being set up for some other reason?

Wayne is “Setting Up The Future”
What I learned doing this assignment is that taking conscious searching and contemplations, can add intrigue, many levels of set-ups, and character backgrounds to make the series far more intriguing and addicting.
Go to your TV Pitch Bible & BW Framework to list events/character reveals/under-surface info that can be set up in the pilot.
Tell which ones will be included in the pilot. These shall be set-up in the Pilot:
Mike intended to get married and raise a family upon returning to earth.Mike has a significantly strong Christian faith.
Mike thinks Romalis are very funny looking.
Amixmu is cold hearted, mean, and a very capable Security Force leader.
Mike’s father was an astronaut who dies in a tragic mission accident
Desae’s betrothed and father of her 3-year-old, Nome, never knew Desae was pregnant when he was killed. The wilderness on Romal is dangerous in many ways, (plants and animals).
Desae had been exiled for being a Believer and having a child out of wedlock.
Romal uses a technology system because it is trigital rather than digital, with great superior potential.
HAL speaks to Desae when she’s saving Mike, but she thinks it is the voice of Logard (God).
Desae believes Logard sent Mike to her for her to help, and to help her.
Romal has 2/3s the gravity of earth.
Romal utilizes a form of turbo engines rather than piston engines.
Romali society has many similarities and many profound differences from earth’s.
These will be loosely, hinted upon, or raised in question in the Pilot.
Romal had many wars until the “Final War” in which religious believers were thwarted by an atheistic government, however that government all owed only personal beliefs, but outlawed gatherings of more than two believers addressing a higher power than their Unified Government.
Desae’s best friend’s husband, Bendal, was once an undercover Security Force member under Amixmu. (We see him in the background of the raid scene.)
These will be set up in future episodes (or possibly future seasons):
Desae herself was raised as an orphan after her parents died in Romal’s “Final War.”Amixmu’s father was a high-ranking member of the religious (losing) military in the “Final War.”
There are too many others to mention that can not be set-up in the pilot.
