    Karen Christine´s Budget

What I learned doing this assignment is that it gave me an impression how my story world looks and feels like in the end. It also inspired me to leave out one character who could be heard on the phone, but not seen on screen. Great tool!

    1. Decreasing the budget:

    MAIN VARIABLES

    Number of Locations: leaving the
car drive at the beginning and end out, just concentrating on the cabin,
the area around the cabin, the bunker and 1-2 locations in the forest near
    the cabin
    Expensive
    locations:

    Number of characters: the
mother could be left out, this could even be more interesting, because
they might lie to her and remain silent about the danger, she misunderstands
that and thinks they don´t want to have her there
    Special effects: the trees don´t
have to seem bigger, they could be shot at night and appear darker and
more threatening, at the end it could be only police officers and not the
    resort manager
    Number of pages: 90-100
    Crowd
    scenes:

Stunts, Chase scenes, and Fight scenes:
    Special
    sets:

    SECONDARY VARIABLES

Rights to music, brands, books, etc.:
    Explosions
    and Firearm:

Kids — shorter work days, tutor on the set: 1
kid, one teenager, maybe they could both be teenagers?
Animals – need a wrangler, more time to shoot,
    Humane Society:

Weather — Rain, snow, wind, tornados: the
tempest is not necessary, the blackout could be caused by something else
    Water
    and underwater scenes:

    Night
    scenes:
    not
    necessary
    Helicopters, aircraft, drone shots: we
could hear the helicopter saving them, we don´t have to see it
    Green
    screen work:

    Extensive
    Make-up:

    Archival
    Footage:

    Anything else dangerous that increases
    preparation time and/or Insurance:

    2. Budget quadrupled:

    A-list actors for the parents

    Expensive cabin in the woods

Drone shots from above showing the size and beauty of the forest

Helicopter that saves the kids and mother and helps them get out of the forest

    Explosion of the bunker

A more expensive equipment in the bunker, kind of hightech

Special effects that show how one or more persons (maybe a whole family) are being transformed into trees

    SWU

    Contained Movie – Lesson #9 – Rae’s Budget

What I learned doing this assignment: More clarity for the potential budget. I leaned towards low budget writing the script, but this process has shown me the areas I need to scale down.

    MAIN VARIABLES:

    *NUMBER OF LOCATIONS:

    1. Traditional Church & Open field

    · Change from a traditional church scene to an outdoor space for the wedding venue

**Use this location also for the two “Fantasy Scenes.”

    2. Residential home – Long Beach

    3. Residential Real Estate – manager’s office

    4. Commercial Real Estate general office

    5. Executive Real Estate office

    6. Jessi’s private real estate office

    · #3 thru 6 – These offices are all necessary, but could be grouped into two or three?

    7. Mediterranean residential home – Long Beach

    8. Hospital Ward & Doctor’s office – Long Beach

    · Scale this down to bare minimum – just one room

    9. Medical office parking lot

    10. Vacant beach and pier

    11. Coffee shop – Long Beach

    12. High end restaurant – Long Beach

    * Same restaurant to be used for High end & coffee shop

    13. Hotel room – Long Beach

    14. Twenty-unit apartment building and grounds – Long Beach

    15. Henry Wu’s Condo

    16. Los Alamitos Yacht Club

    City Hall Parking Lot

    Los Alamitos Yacht basin

    * EXPENSIVE LOCATIONS:

Night Club – cut this scene.

Residential real estate general offices – could be one large room with bull pens – plus two private offices.

High end restaurant – could also be used for the coffee shop scene.

    Twenty unit apartment building

    Los Alimitos Yacht Club

    *NUMBER OF CHARACTERS

*Special Effects – The 2 Fantasy Scenes

    *Number of Pages 85

*Crowd Scenes – opening scene – the wedding and reception

*Stunts: Chase scenes, fight scenes – none

*Special Sets – the two fantasy scenes out in nature

    SECONDARY VARIABLES:

Rights to Music, brands, books etc.

    · Big Item – Frank Sinatra music is threaded through-out the movie.

    BIG ITEM EXPENSE

    Explosions and Firearms:

    · None

Kids – shorter work-days – Tutor on set:

*One child – Julian (12) in foru separate scenes

Animals – Need a wrangler, more time to shoot, Humane Society

    · None

Weather – Rain, Snow, Wind, Tornadoes:

    · Shot in California – only good weather 😊

    Water and Underwater scenes:

    · None

    Night Scenes

    Helicopters, Aircraft, Drone shots

    · None

    Green Screen work

    · Uncertain

    Extensive Make-up

    · Uncertain

    Archival Footage

    · None

Anything else dangerous that increases preparation time and/or Insurance

    2. Then go through your list and tell us what you might add if your BUDGET was quadrupled.

    * A List actors for the roles of Jesi, Gerard, Harold and Henry.

    * Sweeping sailing scenes on Gerard’s yacht

    * Save the Night Club scene with Jesi and Gizelle
