Assignment #2 – Devil’s 8 Three Circles of Characters
What I learned doing this assignment is a new way to analyze the relationships between my supporting characters and my main characters. Understanding each of the supporting roles helps me to better map the journey of the main characters. Also, I realized that one of my characters whom I thought was supporting, actually needs to be a main character.
A. Main Characters Circle:
Gregg Engell : Other than his unwavering belief in God, he possesses none of the other traits that make for a good Pastor.
Sandra Poe: Working as the only woman in an all male police department has made her both driven and self-reliant.
Mareesha: Isolated teen who has lost both parents and possesses a gift that is powerful, but frightening.
Adam: He’s charming and intelligent, but also deceptive, manipulative… and very dangerous.

*The mayor is the main character. She entered politics bc she cares about people but learns that she is a puppet in the grand scheme of local politics
*Mayor Pro Temp is driven to land the job of mayor, to be in charge and further their own career
*The City Attorney is a no nonsense, by the book person who doesn’t care about party affiliations but more so about getting the job done to the letter
*The Chief of Police is an old-school minded person who sees people as guilty before innocent and supports cops over community
*Some City Council Members vote along party lines and care more about lobbyists than the people because their goal is state government.
*Assistant works for all of the officials, knows all of the secrets and where the bodies lie. Driven, professional, loyal to the office, not the person -
Assignment #2 – Greg’s Three Circles of Characters
What I learned doing this assignment was that the relationships between my characters creates new ways to reveal the layers of interest in my main characters.
A. Main Characters Circle:
Jake Dawson (16) is an idealistic teenager with big dreams and raging hormones who must reevaluate his loyalties and his moral code to bring a villain to justice.
Audrey Anderson (16), an unconventional beauty & the adopted daughter of a local minister, is bold and broken as so many bullies are.
Thomas Nakashima (16) struggles to negotiate his role as the oldest Japanese son with being an American teenager with unrealistic goals.
Connected Characters Circle:
Evelyn, Lee, Frankie, Sal, Norma, Lonnie, Betty Jane, Doris, Virginia, Jean
Environmental Characters Circle:
Teachers, Casino & Nightclub staff, Company Employees, Country Club patrons, Parents and church congregations.
