What I learned doing this assignment is to prioritize a sense of play in my writing over perfect word play…at least until the last draft. Also learned that coming up with the mission of “Making a Bangin’ Corndog” actually CAN lead you to some better ideas. Twenty bad ideas, man. Who knew?

Escalating Action: As we go deeper and deeper into the circles of this cybernetic hell, the question of who is good and who is evil eat at Calvex’s faith and pit him against his own “god” who sent him.

What a first day journey. I started this homework with one idea, brainstormed the hell out of it and ended up with something completely else to use in this course and I believe I can elevate it much more as the idea is practically brand new in my head.

So I started with idea one:

Coming out of a coma a troubled cop realizes that he has to fake a brain injury to protect his paralyzed body and the evidence of the corrupt cops that left him for dead. His physio catches on that he is faking it. She has to decide whether to help him and therefore signing her death warrant or to expose him and sign his death warrant.

So in the end I realized that this will be more a drama with action scenes than an pure action movie….

But the brainstorm process led to the following – idea two (which is still very rough and needs some more work…

To prevent assassination on a global a brainiac girl must solve several puzzles in order to unlock the key code locked in her brain which will prevent it, but she have to stay alive and ahead of the maniac hunting her.

Highly skilled hero – A girl with brain capabilities that can only be described as inhumanly intelligent.

Demand for action – A group of ops specialists must find her before the multi-millionaire psychopath hunting her kills her.

Mission – She have to unravel the code in her head while being hunted in order to prevent subluminal mind control assassinations all over the world.

Antagonist – The son of the man who contributed in creating the key in her head, will throw all his money into finding her. No price is to high and no law unbreakable… he tortures for breakfast and will stop at nothing to find her and kill her at his leisure.

Escalating action – A troubled past of scientist parents held hostage for years by the antagonists father. She was born during this time.

She have to delve through layers of puzzles in order to peel back layer of layer to find the code, all the while she have to stay alive and one step in front of her hunter who have millions and minions by the millions to hunt her down.

He already started to use the program that bring assassination in a global scale into the world with disastrous consequences, she have the kill code for his program locked in her brain.

He also blames her for his father’s imprisonment and death.

Can she trust anyone in this world, who are not controlled by him…

As I said a lot of work still to be done…. but it was much easier with all the brainstorming ideas and the consent I gave myself to not do it perfect or control it in any way… to make mistakes and to know that this idea is still in it’s infancy shoes…

    Loved the process.

    Jul’s Conventions!

Concept: Man must get out of the doomed area, saving his loved ones, for the least, but gets stuck, and must overcome opposite party.

Hero: Hacker went trained, and gets a job of Security Guard

Demand For Action: He uncovers information about an area land planned to be destroyed

Antagonist: A Politition, turned out to be an evil scientist, who wishes to conduct evil scientific experiment, and cover up all the traces by destroying the whole area where that would happen

Escalating Action: They all stuck in labs building with doors blocked, together with his wife, who started following him down there, and an Evil Scientist, all unable to get out.

It was difficult to overcome old habits. I learned how to step across old preconceptions.

Diana T. Black… what I learned doing this assignment is the need to “just get it down” on paper – hard for an overthinker/intellectual type, but doable. I’m developing this as a 6 episode mini-series hybrid – Action/Thriller. Originally written as a relationship drama, so the challenge will be to have sustained, yet escalating action over the entire narrative arc.

    Concept:

A Lead Firefighter moonlighting as a criminal investigator, who’s on the verge of discovering a web of organized crime, takes the rap for a crime he didn’t commit — presenting his unknown adversary the opportunity to destroy him.

Highly Skilled Hero: Lead Fire fighter who moonlights for the DA as a criminal investigator.

Demand for Action: An unknown adversary has murdered his lover, and now wants him dead

Mission: To discover and “make pay” whoever’s behind the murders and corruption before they kill him and his son.

Antagonist: Assistant DA after the top job and on the verge of taking over an organized crime syndicate

Escalating Action: Taking responsibility for the death of his best friend lands Keylan in prison with thugs on the inside ordered to kill him and his son on the outside now under serious threat.

What I learned doing this assignment is that this process can actually be fun when you don’t think about making mistakes or being wrong. Ideas come flooding in and you actually can make choices of which direction to take the story. If it doesn’t work, there are options. If there is no answer, wait and one will arrive.

Concept: Because of her past ballet experience, a new recruit in the Israeli army is brought into a secret mission to return artwork stolen by the Nazi’s in WWII to the descendants of the rightful owners.

Hero: Athletic, specifically-trained and female, she is less likely to be suspected of stealing back these paintings and artifacts from people harboring them. Her grandparents and other relatives were killed in the Holocaust. She grew up poor and her family has had to rebuild its wealth and status in the world. Brooding resentment boils underneath.

Demand For Action: Lots of action in that the artwork will be locked, hidden away and held be criminals.

Mission: To get Rembrandt’s The Storm on the Sea of Galilee back from the mob boss that currently has it in his possession.

Antagonist: Head of mob-syndicate that holds the painting hostage in case he is arrested. He can use it for leverage to get a reduced, if not an erased sentence.

Escalating Action: First, she has to find him, get in his good graces, steal the painting and escape.

I learned that it is much easier to do this if you’re not concerned about getting everything just right. The concept is a former marine sharpshooter returns to civilian life to help patrol animal poachers in Kenya. The main hero is a woman the secondary hero is her estranged father. The demand for action finds her immediately immersed in finding and stopping elephant poachers, also she must track down a wild beast who is attacking watering herds and tourist caravans. Her mission is to team up with her father to track down and kill the giant beast. The main antagonist is the beast, secondary antagonists are the poachers. The escalating action is the hunt for the beast while her supplies, equipment and allies dwindle, the weather turns life threatening and old allies betray her.

Elton becomes caught in a force allowing him such alien superpowers.
