Bernadette Wilson – Lesson 2 Character Profiles Part 1
What I learned in this assignment is there’s a lot of muck in the story. Some Good muck, some bad muck, good backstory. I’m trying not to judge it because a lot of what’s coming out is not making sense to the story that I intended. Maybe I’m writing something else. I don’t know.
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Protagonist: Brinda Cage
Role In The Story:
Protagonist – Explorer/Victim/fighter – Straight as a board to survive but wants to help her gay and drag queen patients in an awful time – 1964. She became a psychologist because she was once a victim of the system. She got into trouble as a teenager, and her father put her in a mental institution. But by the end of the movie, she bucks that system too. Psychologist in training at NYU. PHD Candidate.
Age Range and Description
28-30 years old. A bit nerdish looking. Has the Greenwich Village bohemian look of 1964. She’s shy but no dummy. A great observer. Protector of her friends who are unconventional. Not comfortable around Frat boys. Likes the characters of Greenwich Village. Not the settling down type with a husband and a picket fence.
Internal Journey
Socially awkward, a little lost girl in search of soul connection. Used to be reckless, very vulnerable. Searching for unconventional and unconditional love.
External Journey
Becoming a psychologist and proving her worth in the world by helping other souls who feel worthless.
Motivation:
To Find the person who killed her best friend/ fiancée Jesse and prove her innocence.
WOUND:
Her father did not know how to handle her after her mother abandoned the family, when she was 7 years old. She got into trouble in her teens and her father had her put away. She thinks it’s her fault that her mother left.
Mission/Agenda:
She attempts to find the murderer on her own. They still don’t know who killed her father in the line of duty.
She wants to understand what happened and stop them Almost help them.
Secret:
She was almost lobotomized before her father was killed. Her professor, doctor stopped it.
What makes her special?
She is able to talk to anyone, although she’s shy in public. Weird unconventional people seem to want to open up to her, unlike the police detectives, although she can talk to them too.
Question 3 – ANTAGONIST
Character name: Mimi – real name Miriam Pearl Cage
She’s the predator/change agent/earlier victim who went array
ROLE in The Story:
Antagonist, actual serial murderer because she is protecting her daughter – Brinda. She actually did not abandon Brinda. She was put away by her husband in an insane asylum, of which it is thought that she died in, but she actually escaped from. She wants vengeance.
Age Range and Description:
Mimi is born June 1, 1922, so by 1964 she is 42. Raised by a single mother who is mentally ill. She was tossed from foster home to foster home until she meets Jack Cage and marries him at 16, which Brinda is born in November 1938. In 1940, Mimi is thrown into single parenthood because Jack joins the marines in 1939 and stays until 1945. By that point Mimi has grown. She is blonde and resembles Marilyn Monroe. He comes home from war and finds that his wife has changed so much. He can’t control her, so he sends her away.
Internal Journey:
To be loved and survive with her daughter. To right the wrongs prevailed upon her. To kill the people that abused her.
External Journey:
To try to get through to Brinda why she was taken away from her. That she’s alive and going to protect her the way a mother should.
Motivation:
She has a warped sense of obligation. A duty to protect her child.
WOUND:
Society thinks she was nuts, so they put her away, drugged, tied her up, did not listen or hear her unless she was well-behaved, the way a girl is supposed to be. She is abused by the system. She does not want her daughter to go through the same thing.
MISSION/AGENDA:
In order to get her point across, she chooses Marilyn Monroe to emulate. She turns her into the guru. When Marilyn dies is when Mimi starts killing men and tearing their eyes out. They are the ones who killed Marilyn. Vengeance is hers.
SECRET:
Everyone thinks she’s dead, but she’s not. Not Brinda nor Brinda’s father or what everyone told them. She knows who really killed Jack, her husband.
WHAT MAKES HER SPECIAL?
She’s an amazing seducer/trickster/ protector in her mind. She feels that she’s being a good mother from afar.

7. Answer the question “What I learned doing this assignment is…?” and put it at the top of your work.
WOW! I learned that I had the power to finish it… and on time. I have already written 60 plus pages of my first draft and had intuitively or had been coached by reading the top screen writing “how to books” last year, to “fill in the blanks”, on many of these points, which are written long hand on pages of a notebook sitting on my desk. I trust that these daily exercises will keep all these thoughts of the lesson plan of this course… as a cohesive building block of completed story. 😊

Karin Hallén’s Character Profiles Part 1
What I learned doing this assignment:
A lot! I have learned about my main character’s subconscious motivations in addition to his conscious ones. Thinking about my character’s wounds and finding them has been very helpful in discovering this. Finding both characters’ wounds has also helped identify the real reasons for several of their behaviors.
I have also learned that it’s really beneficial to already at this stage think of minor characters, background, and extras, because suddenly when I did this a much more complete picture of “the world” in the story and a whole new dimensional layer came to life, with scene ideas and new dynamics popping up.
I have also learned that I have to find a valid, relatable, and somewhat justifiable reason for my protagonist’s behavior, in order to create a multi-faceted depth and some kind of likability in him, despite his obvious flaws, or the audience will not root for him, but only for the genie.
Genre: Buddy Movie (Comedy)
Protagonist: George.
Type of Protagonist: Dreamer
Role in the Story: Ambitious, but misguided, scared, lonely self-help speaker and writer with a victim mindset, desperately wanting to become successful and validated. Well-meaning and insightful at the core, but eaten and beaten up by the competitive public speaker and personal development industry. Speaks of a message intended to help people and humanity as a whole to overcome loneliness, without realizing that he most of all desires to help himself.
Age and description: Mid 40s. Thin, pale, wearing ill-fitting blazers. Looks somewhat sad. Looks hesitant and insecure, except for at the tennis court, where he looks comfortable and at ease.
Internal Journey: From scared, misguided, blameful, pessimistic and given up to authentic, brave, truthful, and generous enough to not only help himself but to make the difference in the world he aspires to, as well.
External Journey: From failing and desperate public speaker and writer hiding behind a facade, to an authentic, insightful, confident, open, and truly valuable teacher.
Motivation: Conscious motivation. To become successful, respected, and famous within the public speaking and personal development industry.
Subconscious motivation: A deep longing for connection and to be of value.

Having 3000 years to sit and think has made her gain unprecedented, tree-like wisdom which she reluctantly shares in order to speed up the process for her to become free. Acts as a mirror and sparring partner to George, while also on her own journey of self-discovery.
Age range and description: 50s. Female. Heavyset from no exercise for 3000 years. Grumpy and with stiff joints from having been trapped in a lamp for so long.

Christi’s Character Profiles Part 1
I learned that I had two Antagonists. Also that I’m writing a thriller. I thought Mystery was a genre. You live and you learn.
1. Fielding is a Hero- A first generation American and Police officer, struggling to find his footing in his chosen profession.
2. There are 2 Antagonists:
Bryce is a Change Agent – the main suspect with the biggest motive but also innocent. He was set to take over the company from his father but then became a drunken baffoon that just embarrasses his father at parties.
The Killer(as yet unknown) is the Predator: a sociopath that is close to the family wishing to usurp the monopoly and place themselves as ruler, stopping at nothing to achieve their goals.
3. Other Characters:
Nessa: Fielding’s childhood best friend and a police detective.
Kevin: Fielding’s friend from the academy and medical officer. Both are comedy relief and sources of exposition.
Minor Roles:
Katelyn- Fielding’s new bride and left for the murder investigation. Source of conflict as she waits alone for him.
Potential suspects: Jones – the chief Usher of the estate and very close to the family, Mrs. Billings- widow of murder suspect, Seth- best friend of the deceased and CFO of the business, Sean- son of Seth and married to Rebecca. Rebecca- was engaged to Bryce before he became a drunk. Decided to marry Bryce’s best friend.
Background Characters: Lots of random guests and household servants. Above suspicion. Maybe.

Deleted UserJune 9, 2021 at 2:08 pmDuring this assignment I have learned to let my thoughts throughout the day reflect on my characters, to let them in and become friends. This way bits of insight filter in and I feel I am getting to know them better.
Character profiles : Judith Abingdon
My Protagonist (Juliet) is a dreamer/explorer
Being a teenager she is not credited with thinking like an adult but she is smart, aware, and a witness to the cultural changes happening around her. She is wise for her age, very perceptive, and reads a lot.
She is beginning to think there is more to life than just fulfilling the traditional roles. Seeing her parents (mother & stepfather) falling for this trap and not being exceptionally happy, she thinks there must be another way.
She is curious to find out how to make these changes happen. She is willing to try new things and meet new friends to bring about the changes she seeks.
The Antagonist ( her Godmother) is a change agent, she is her defender and motivator. In her forties but seems older from the many burdens she has already shouldered in her life. She is an immigrant and sees America as a place of big opportunity if you reach for your goals. She had at one time been a nun, now she works long hours to own her own home and drinks every night to dull the pain of a boring existence. But she is still happier than being trapped by an oppressive government.
Since she had to make decisions that were not her own when she was young, she wants Juliet to fulfill her desires and not make compromises. She feels you get one chance to make a mark when you have the drive of youth on your side and will propel Juliet to make the hard choices even against Juliet’s mother’s wishes. She feels she missed her chances for happiness and does not want Juliet to suffer the same mistakes.
What other characters might be necessary?
mother:
( immigrant as well)
Late 30’s.
She feels she is damaged goods as she became pregnant early in life and carries this as a sin against her religion and her parents. She came to America as an unwed mother and grabbed the first man that showed interest in her because she thought this was the best a flawed person could do.
She is very worried this same fate will befall Juliet so she is quite strict with her. She wants to be the perfect American and have the Hallmark family, home, and life. No pressure!
stepfather :
late 30’s.
Kind of a loser, but being a child of the 40′ 50’s thinks he is a fine figure of a man. On his second marriage and thinks he is hot stuff because he has bagged an attractive European wife with a sexy accent. He takes on her kid but really shows no interest as he already has two kids he has to pay alimony for. He is the traditional male supremacist, my home is my castle, don’t speak unless spoken to, angry, frustrated, where is my dinner and beer type of man.
He thinks he holds all the power and it’s his world and we are all just living in it for his benifit.
Hmmm, how is that going to work out?!
a close neighbor (Carol) of similar age to Juliet but of advanced ideas that will spark Juliets journey, she is already smoking pot and is gay, but we are not sure if even she knows this.
A boyfriend, that wants to tie her down, but appeals to her parents. Juliet is not much interested in him other than he has a car and has put her mother under a spell with his phony niceties and is able to get her out of the house for dates during which he is always demanding sex.

Subject line: Daisy Ridgway’s Character Profiles Part 1
What I learned doing this assignment: There are different types of heroes/protagonists and antagonists. I also learned that my genre may be different than what I thought!
Protagonist: HERO/DREAMER

Antagonist: CHANGE AGENT
CHARLES LAUGHTON, the actor, is 47-years-old when he and Little Mia, age 7, meet in the garden of the home in which they both lived but at different points in time. MRS. BUTTLE, Little Mia’s sitter

TINA Barrientos, Mia’s housekeeper and “second mother”

MIA PAULEY

CHARLES LAUGHTON

Secret: Chance encounters with people (MIA) from another place and time

N. Lucas, Romance Genre (Holiday Romance)
What I learned doing this assignment: I learned that I can give each of my essential the clear purpose that will help to drive the story forward.
Each of these characters can push the story forward with dialogue.
I am not sure that the Holiday Romance fits the genre’s listed—I feel that it is more of a ‘Hallmark’ type romance that will have to have essential ‘markers’ (see “Romancing the Beat” by Gwen Hayes) I think this assignment will really help me to clarify my characters goals and the part they play in telling the story.
My protagonist will be a ‘runner’ – running away from marriage- or things that will interrupt the ‘plan’ he has for his life. Work, being a successful lawyer. Earning the respect of his coworkers.
My Antagonist will be his friend that is getting married and (maybe) his boss. They will be agents of change—they will drop lines of dialogue that will get him to change how he thinks.
Other characters are the
Main girl he will find himself falling for.
Her 2 girlfriends
Daphne, a co-worker that is after him and his money.
The head of the law firm
And other minor characters
Genre: Holiday Romance
I have no idea what makes these people special. But, Im working on it! 🙂

1. What I learned.
What I learned doing this assignment is that it is a good practice to do this for as many characters as possible. Even though I had short write ups of each of the main characters, this really helps to expand on who and why they do the things they do. On the surface, it was a great list of things to consider as you create your characters, but it also helps lay the foundation and build the framework for your story.
—————————————
2. Pick the type of role your Protagonist will play and give us a few sentences on how they will fulfill that role.
The main protagonist for this story is Entrysk. She is part explorer, part dreamer. Her willingness to explore and learn more helps her dream of a brighter future where through acceptance and understanding they can live a better life.
She takes pride in all things ‘dragon’ particularly being a protector, thus this role of protector leads her to learning about the newcomer and realize other non-dragon things have value too.
– Age range and Description
She is a young dragonet about 20-25 years old (or 2-3 in human years). She is a smaller version of her mother in almost everyway. She likes it like that, even if she knows her appearance will change as she gets older.
– Internal Journey
From blindly believing in the traditions and proud to follow the old dragon ways to accepting and fighting for things she took the time to get to understand.
– External Journey
Follows mother closely making things “just so” and dreams of being an elder so she can keep the traditions alive, to stands up for change and accepts things different than her.
– Motivation
Gain her mothers and the clan’s respect by safely escorting the intruder out of the forest.
– Wound
She so wants to be an elder like her mother but is too young and hasn’t had any good opportunities to prove herself. She feels the other dragons don’t see her over her older brothers. She doesn’t think she is really appreciated in the clan.
– Mission/Agenda
She takes it upon herself to make sure the raptor is safely escorted from the forest and doesn’t bring harm to the clan.
– Secret
She is the reason the raptor came to the forest.
– What makes them special?
She’s very empathetic and prefers when everyone is getting along. She often plays the peacemaker.
3. Pick the type of role your Antagonist will play and give us a few sentences on how they will fulfill that role.
Authority – The main protagonist is the clan, mainly the dragon elders, including E’s mother, father, and uncle, and several characters they meet in clan along the way and the dragon tenets.
We’ll follow the mother for this assignment as the voice of the clan. She agrees with the elders and is against the newcomer. She instructs E to get rid of this intruder and gets her brothers to follow and look after her. E’s mother in particular, who E idolizes and wants to grow up to be just like, is the main voice of dissent instructing E to ensure the intruder is removed.
Age range and Description
Hgielyak is an adult dragon “over a hundred years old” if you ask her, or about 40 in human years. Her husband will remind her she’s almost half way to 200, though. She’s slender, but muscular, with a long thin green tail with just a puff of white on the end. Said to be the prettiest of all dragons.
Internal Journey
Worried about things that may disrupt their way of life to being open to outsiders and accepting new traditions and guests.
External Journey
Corrects undragon-like behavior, disregards undragon-like things to accepting her daughters new friend and inviting her back to the feasting table. Tells the council members the Rule Against Raptors is hereby amended.
– Motivation

What I learned doing this assignment is characters are easy. These characters have to make the story true. If the story is base on true facts then you must change and make them work together. Lora’s Character Profiles Part 1
What I learned doing this assignment is it’s a struggle trying to be specific enough to create the vision I see while still being vague enough to give myself room to change things later. The concept I have for this screenplay is a television show with several seasons; the Antagonist will be different each season.
My Protagonist is a Fighter. She refuses to give up, even when all the odds are stacked against her. She rises from the ashes every time.
My Antagonist is a villain. They try to break the Protagonist emotionally and mentally.
Supporting characters: Best friends, love interests.
Minor roles: Coworkers, flings
Background characters: Party attendees, bar patrons
The genre is Drama.

Subject line:
Protagonists Character’s Names Profiles Part 1: Dr. Phillip Morgan and Dr. Quinn McAllister
Antagonists Character’s Names: Dr. Frank Shanis and Dr. Johnathan Skipper
1. What I learned doing this assignment is to better understand the personalities, backgrounds and motivations of what drives both of my protagonists for their actions.
2. Pick the type of role your Protagonist will play and give us a few sentences on how they will fulfill that role.
Heroes. There are two Protagonists
in this screenplay. Dr. Philip
Morgan who works in General Hospital as a surgeon as well as an
emergency room physician and Dr. Quinn McAllister who is an ICU physician
and surgeon at HOPE Hospital, which is a competing hospital to General
Hospital, both hospitals being located in the same city.Dr. Philip Morgan’s and Dr.
Quinn McAllister’s roles as the protagonists are both as heroes. They both have identical starting internal
and external journeys and have identical old and new ways. They went to medical school together and
were at the same hospital for their post graduate residency training. They both rise to assume the roles of being
“watchdogs” on behalf of the patients and the ethical practice of
medicine. The take responsibility in
finding the courage necessary to find ways to “save” patients in their
respective hospitals from the unscrupulous antagonists, both of whom are
the CEO leaders of their respective hospitals and who are intentionally
attempting to bring harm to patients in the others hospitals as a way of
negatively impacting the health outcomes of their competitors institution
as a way to make their own hospitals health outcomes look better in the local
and national hospital rankings.3. Pick the type of role your Antagonist will play and give us a few sentences on how they will fulfill that role.
Authority: both Antagonists (Dr. Frank Shanis and Dr. Johnathan Skipper) are CEO
authority figures who lead different hospitals located in the same
city. Both Antagonists are driven
to sabotage (i.e. even actively kill patients at their competitors
hospital) and undermine the health outcomes of their counterpart’s hospital’s
patients, the motive of which is to make their competitor’s health
outcomes (i.e. patient complication rates, survival/death rates) inferior
to their own so that their respective hospital will be ranked higher than
the other, thus allowing their own hospitals to attract more patient flow
and revenues and philanthropic and community support and to elevate
themselves as being recognized as superior CEO leaders of their respective
hospitals.4. What other characters might be necessary?
Supporting characters:
Several supporting characters
will be necessary. Supporting characters will be health care workers and
hospital employees who work at competing hospitals who are given
incentives to either work with the protagonists (to help save the lives
of patients at risk of being harmed) or with the antagonist to assist in
directly harming the patients at the competitor’s hospital.
Other characters in supporting
roles are the patients themselves who have been targeted to be harmed or
even killed by the CEO and his minions at the competing hospital.Minor roles:
There are several characters
who will have minor roles, such as unsuspecting health care providers
working in respective hospitals, police officers, community leaders, patient’s
family members, etc.
Other minor role characters
will be love interests, family members and friends of the protagonists as
well as the antagonists respectfully. Background characters:
Background characters will be
medical school and residency program professors and physicians, prior
teachers and clergy, etc. who helped formulate the high ethical
principals embedded within the protagonists.
Background figures will also
include hospital administrators, hospital boards of directors, and
national hospital ranking administrators who are driving the national
ranking system of hospitals which is driving the CEO antagonist’s actions
to have at all costs their hospitals to outrank their competitors
hospitals.5. Pick your genre.
Drama: the genre is Drama.
6. Fill in whatever answers come to you about your lead character profiles.
Role in the story:
Both protagonists, Dr. Morgan
and Dr. McAllister, are friends and former medical school and residency
classmates, both of whom are highly ethical and will stop at nothing to undermine
the efforts of both antagonists to hard and even kill patients.
No one, including the
authorities, believes the protagonists assertions that such activities
are occurring at either hospital.
Therefore, both protagonists have to take matters into their own
hands and also elicit support from colleagues at their respective
hospitals to prevent harm to patients.
When they believe they have proof of the unscrupulous activities
of the CEOs, the CEOs through their network of co-assailants/ co-conspirators
are able to cover their tracks and evade discovery of their treacherous actions.Age range and Description:
Dr. Philip Morgan, is age 35
years old and Dr. Quinn McAllister is age 33 years old. Dr. Phillip is an
African American male physician and Dr. Quinn McAllister is a Caucasian American
male physician.
CEO Dr. Frank Shanis is 67 years
old and Dr. Johnathan Skipper is 53 years old, both are Caucasian males, from
wealthy families. Both were spoiled growing up and are aristocratic,
authoritarian, top-down leaders and bullies to their leadership
teams. They both also engage in
many illegal business transactions, such as insider trading as well as sexual
misconduct, suspected sex trafficking, drug trafficking, as well as
illegal, unethical incentives to procure more organs at their respective
hospitals for the organ transplant black market.Internal Journey:
Internal Journeys of both protagonists
are essential identical with respect that they are physicians fresh out
of their residency and fellowship training and thereby possess a certain
degree of uncertainty, timidity and insecurity in having the responsibility
to take care of patients and have the lives of patients in their
hands. They are obedient and subservient
to their superiors and follow the chain of command. They both are highly ethical people but
they are initially afraid to speak up and question some of the medical
decisions and orders of their physician superiors.
Dr. Phillip Morgan, the
African American Physician, comes from an impoverished background and is
the first member of his family to graduate high school and attend
college. He has faced and
experienced many accounts of racism as he grew up and throughout his college
and medical training. He was
raised in the United Methodist Church and is a believer in God.
Dr. Quinn McAllister grew up
in an upper middle-class family and is the youngest of four siblings in
the field of medicine. Both of his parents are physicians who practice in
a different state from where Quinn practices medicine. Dr. Quinn is an
agnostic.External Journey:
Both protagonist’s external
journey’s are that they rise to the occasion of getting out of their comfort
zone’s of timidity and passivity to becoming strong and staunch patient
advocates who will stop at nothing to save the lives of patients by thwarting
the malicious actions of the CEOs at their respective hospitals.Motivation:
The motivation of Dr. Phillip Morgan
is that he is a highly ethical individual who truly believes in the Hippocratic
Oath he has taken in becoming a physician, “To First Do No Harm”, but
also because his father died in General Hospital ten years earlier from
what Phillip believes may have been circumstances, albeit unproven, due to the malicious unscrupulous behaviors at the hands of the HOPE Hospital CEO.
The motivation of Dr. Quinn
McAllister is that he also is highly ethical and also lives by his
Hippocratic Oath.Wound:
The wound experienced by Dr. Phillip
Morgan is that Phillip’s father died unexpectedly while hospitalized at
General Hospital and Philip believes that his father’s death may have
been due to circumstances, albeit unproven, resulting from the malicious
unscrupulous actions at the hands of the HOPE Hospital CEO.
Dr. Quinn McAllister’s wound
is that coming up as a child and in high school, having both parents who were
physicians, he always felt that he did not fully live up to his parent’s
expectations of him, in spite of the fact that he completed college and
graduated from medical school. Psychologically,
without really even realizing it, Quinn feels the need to prove to
himself and to his parents that he is a confident and competent physician
and working to thwart the malicious activities of the CEOs is one way in
which he can do that.
Dr. Quinn also experienced a
significant and psychologically distressing wound when he was an intern
as he believes that he contributed unintentionally to the death of one of
his patients under his care, a young child.Mission/Agenda:
Both protagonists have the mission and agenda to fulfill their Hippocratic Oaths but to also take every means necessary to save lives of patients. The patients are unsuspecting pawns at the mercy of the malicious, cold-hearted, calculated hospital CEO protagonists both of whom wish to fulfill their own devious missions.
Secret:
Dr. Phillip Morgan’s secret is
that no one knows that he is suspicious that his father’s death in
General Hospital was due to the malicious, cold-hearted calculated crazed,
insane, demented egos of the CEO of HOPE Hospital.
Dr. Quinn McAllister’s secret
is that no one is aware of the low-self-esteem that runs deep within him
that drives him to attempt to prove to himself as well as others that he
is the best physician there is.
Also, Dr. Quinn has a secret
that he feels that he is responsible unintentionally for the death of one
of his patients, a young child, when he was an intern and because of that
is additionally motivated to become a “savior” of as many patients he can
possibly save.What makes them special?
Both protagonists are special
because they have strong intrinsic motivations as well as have experienced
significant wounds that makes them stop at nothing to achieve their goals
to save patients lives from the maliciousness of the hospital CEOs. They cannot save every patients lives
because they are only human but they have transformed their own
characters and personalities to be able to become these staunch champions
for patients.Answer the question “What I learned doing this assignment is…?” and put it at the top of your work.

Antagonist-ish: Change Agent – Groomsman 1 Change Agent -Courtney’s eventually-recognized Dream Guy

Wound: healed warrior

Robert R. Smith – Lesson 2 Character Profiles Part 1
What I learned in this assignment is there’s a short cut to getting a story to be character driven and that’s developing a profile of characters and even if all the pieces are not together yet they will be when you build on what you have later. In fact, I am already developing material for the screenplay beyond what I thought I could.
