JAYE’S ACT 4 RESOLUTION
What I learned is that whatever doubts I might have placed on myself at the beginning of this class, trusting the process and pushing through has allowed me to write a first draft screenplay in 12 days, and I’m thrilled with it so far. Rewrites can only make it better! I’m looking forward to elevating this story!
EXT. LAB – NIGHT
Copious amounts of police cars skid up to the entrance. Hero walks out
alone, straight to THE COMMISSIONER (50s).HERO
Commissioner, your men are
going to find a big surprise in
the Science Lab.Commissioner, gun drawn, hands shaking, speaks timidly. Almost asking.
COMMISSIONER
Hero, I need you to come to
the station. Answer some
questions.HERO
I’ll be glad to. But first, City Hall.Hero points his fist to the sky and he’s off!
EXT. CITY HALL – NIGHT
The front door is smashed to bits.
INT. CITY HALL / LOWER LEVEL – SAME
Hero faces a set of doors. In front to him A SIGN ON THE DOOR READS:
THE VAULT.
Commotion behind him as POLICE and ARMED SECURITY round the
corner. The Commissioner leads.Hero breaks open the first set of doors.
An armed guard holds up a key card. The Commissioner waves it away.
Hero breaks open the second set of doors. Then the third.
Inside, people stand.
BLACK WOMAN BLONDE MAN
Hero! We’re saved!ASIAN WOMAN LATINO MAN
He’s alive! I knew it!BEARDED HIPSTER
I’m hungry!INT. HERO’S PENTHOUSE / LIVING ROOM – NIGHT
Hero and Villain drink wine. Hero sits on the couch. Villain stands before
him, shirt raised. A steel case sits on the coffee table.HERO
There’s gotta be a way we can
remove it.VILLAIN
I don’t know. They told me if I
tried, it would go off.Villain sits.
VILLAIN
The detonator is at the bottom of
the sea, so I’m sure I’ll be okay.HERO
Speaking of…
(nods to the steel case)
Thanks for bringing that back.VILLAIN
Won’t happen again.Hero yawns. Sit’s upright. Pulls Villain’s diamond from his pocket.
HERO
And this is yours.Hero pauses.
HERO
I had my girlfriend’s ring in my
utility belt that night.VILLAIN
The lightning triggered something
in the diamond.Hero sets it on the table. Leans back. Rubs his eyes.
HERO
Maybe you can be my side kick.VILLAIN
Fuck that!HERO
This can be normal. Working
together.VILLAIN
The snake eventually bites, my
friend.Hero drinks. Another yawn. Checks his glass. Seeing double. Sighs.
HERO
You poisoned me…VILLAIN
Only a little.Hero lowers his glass.
HERO
Aww… I trusted you.VILLAIN
Don’t worry. You’ll wake up in the
morning.Hero closes his eyes. Villain stands and straddles Hero’s legs, blocking
our view.HERO
(groggy as hell)
What are you doing?Villain steps back. A drawing of a penis is on Hero’s forehead. Hero’s
mouth has fallen open.Villain lightly slaps Hero’s cheek.
VILLAIN
Oh, before I forget… I got you
something. He releases a loud FART. Hero curls his nose and tries to push the taste
out of his mouth.Villain puts Hero’s wine on the coffee table, next to the diamond. He goes
to the front door.VILLAIN
See ya, Mike.Villain walks out. Leaves the diamond behind. Door closes.
HERO
(falling into sleep)
See ya, Greg. -
Mary and Rich’s Act 4 Resolution
What I learned doing this assignment is now we can celebrate! It feels great to be at this point, ready for the next steps.
1. Outline Key Scene 4.
EXT – PARKING LOT OF SCHOOL – NIGHT
In truth, they lost. The $250 “winnings share” is mostly the ka-ching money, and the rest Jax’s last savings. Both Shakespeare and Hitler almost went broke, y’know!” Jax tells Morty that there is a Screenwriting Two class. Maybe they can sign up and try again.
Morty says, “we’ll flip for it.”—-whether they should SIGN UP FOR SCREENWRITING TWO.
Jax and Morty both call heads in the air— we do it — “It’s heads.” Together: “You’re kidding!” Together: “Ka-ching!”
AFTER – OVER CREDITS SHOW THE YARD WARS SCRIPT MADE INTO A STUDENT MOVIE
SCENE:
MORTY: Good thing Bella Bustamonte wasn’t judging or I may have to play hard to get. And, hey, you trying to pawn off
$250 dollars not winnings on me.
JAX: C’mon Morty. The needs of Mabel outweigh the needs of two. Besides, I don’t want to ride in a coughing factory for the whole next semester.
MORTY: What are you talking about?
JAX: There’s a Screenwriting Two class, partner. And there’s another prize.
MORTY: What about losers quitting.
JAX: I don’t see any losers here.
It starts to rain, albeit a gentle rain in the fog. They turn to walk towards Mabel.
MORTY: Jax, I think this is a start of a beautiful friendship.
JAX: They already used that line in Casablanca, Morty.
MORTY: Average writers plagarize. Great writers steel.
JAX: Oscar Wilde.
MORTY: Jax? (Morty chuckles)
They open the doors to Mabel and both get in. Drive off to the loud smoking sounds of Mabels muffler.

Karin Hallén’s Act 4 Resolution
What I learned doing this assignment is that again I wasn’t sure what’s the last part of the climax and what’s the resolution as I think the end of the climax and the beginning of the resolution took place in the same scene which I posted in yesterday’s forum. Aside from that, I learned that the resolution reads/feels better when it’s short and sweet.
Outline Key Scene(s) 4
Beginning
EXT. CONVENTION CENTER – DAY
Geena gets into an Uber.
Middle
INT. UBER – DAY
The driver is the same Uber driver she had a hint of a flirt with earlier and who “protected her” from George. They talk.

TITLE CARD: 1 YEAR LATER
EXT. FLORIDA GOLF RESORT – POOL – DAY

INSERT: Closeup of George on the cover of TIME Magazine.

The Uber driver sits in the pool chair next to her.
EXT. TENNIS COURT – DAY
George puts the phone back in his pocket and serves. Rebecca hits the ball back perfectly, out of reach for George. They laugh and both run up to the net and kiss over it. Rebecca has an engagement ring on her finger.

GEENA
He’s alright, actually. Kind of like the brother you always fight with but would die for.
UBER DRIVER
Oh, hmm.
The Uber Driver and Geena chitchat and laugh. They have an undeniable connection.
GEENA
Hey, do you play golf?
UBER DRIVER
Heck, yeah!
GEENA
Do you think it’s wrong to compete among friends when playing?
UBER DRIVER
Heck, no!
Geena grins.

Bernadette Wilson – Lesson 23 – Resolve Act 4
What I learned writing this lesson is that it’s so easy to settle it once the climax is worked out. Still have a lot of work to do on it.
INT. HOSPITAL – NIGHT
Cal is pacing up and down the corridor outside the room where Brinda is.
Brinda is in a state of shock.
Cal walks in and sits by her side.
Brinda wakes up.
CAL
Hey – you made it kid.
BRINDA
Where am I?
Brinda tries to get up but she realizes that she’s in a hospital.
CAL
Wooo, woo woo, take it easy.
Brinda lies back down on the bed.
BRINDA
Is Mr. Webber alright?
CAL
He’s fine. You didn’t kill him thank god.
Brinda looks almost disappointed that she didn’t kill him.
BRINDA
Did they find…
CAL
Mary Lou? No. Not a trace.
BRINDA
I’m not surprised.
CAL
We’re still out looking for her. Can you remember anything she said?
Just when Brinda has the opportunity to say that the Mary Lou killer is actually her mother.
BRINDA
No, just jibberish. The woman’s not well. But she’s definitely a woman.
CAL
I believe you now.
BRINDA
I feel groggy.
CAL
Dr. Sonya’s back. She made sure they took good care of you.
BRINDA
Dr. Sonya?
CAL
Yup. She’s up and around.
BRINDA
Took care of me.
CAL
Boss almost bit the dust. You saved him.
BRINDA
Hmmm.
There’s a very loud silence in between them.
CAL
Well, I’m gonna go check on him right now. You rest well, ok?
BRINDA
Ok
Cal leaves the room.
Brinda is left thinking to herself about what she knows about Webber and Boss. -

Rae’s Act 4 Resolution
What I learned doing this assignment is that miracles happen! What looked impossible ten days ago is now an 80 page first draft. It’s amazing! I expect to have a more crafted script as I continue with the final assignments. Thank you Hal & Cheryl!
ACT #4: RESOLUTION – WRAP IT UP AND SHOW US THE NEW NORMAL
EXT. IRS BUILDING/ THE STREET (LOS ANGELES)
Jesi’s cell sounds as she leaves the building. There’s a text.
TEXT
Miss Johnson, please call DR. Leblanc’s office at your earliest. Your medical debt has been forgiven. Consider it paid in full.
POV
She looks up, sees Gerard is heading right for her. She freezes.
GERARD LEBLANC
I stopped by your office first. Michael told me you were here.
Jesi keeps walking. He follows then suddenly jumps in front of her. She slams right into his chest. He wastes no time. His eyes soften as he speaks.
GERALD LEBLANC
From this day on, you have all of me. My entire life, I have never been as certain of anything. Jesi, will you be my wife?
He kisses her without consent. She resists, but then falls completely into their kiss.
She starts crying. He leads her to a bench in a small grassy area by the building.
JESI
I’m sorry for the way I’ve acted. Jason just told me you are an exceptional father, but I still don’t understand — why didn’t you tell me that you’ve been married? Why didn’t you tell me about your wife?
GERARD LEBLANC
First of all, my boy’s mother is dead. She was my patient. I delivered her baby, Julian, and then she died of cancer one year later, having kept it hidden it from everyone. Somehow I was fortunate enough to adopt her baby, and what a privilege. The boy has been the blessing of my life.
(takes her hand)
That is, until you came along. My niece, the one you saw me kissing, lives close by and has been my built in baby sitter while studying for her doctorate. But all of this is soon to end.
(with enthusiasm)
I didn’t tell you for fear I would lose you. But we can get live in help to be with Julian, drive him to school when I’m unable. None of this needs to effect my life with you. That is, if you will still have me.
JESI
But there was a lie. A huge lie. Oh my God, will you just give me some time to process this.
GERALD LEBLANC
(disappointed)
Yes, of course I will. And my boy — would you like to meet him?
JESI
Yes, that I would like that — but can we do it next week? You have no idea, the scope of the mess I still have to clean up. Every one of my escrows are a mess. All of my sellers are threatening to cancel. And as you can see I’m also running the Johnson Construction truck.
(points to her coveralls)
Look at me. I’ve been clearing drains, crawling under buildings.
GERARD LEBLANC
(grins)
I didn’t notice.
JESI
Ger, I’m sorry, I really have to go.
GERARD LEBLANC
When can I see you? And when can you meet my boy?
JESI
(calls back)
Give me one week. And Ger, I just heard from your billing office.
She can’t help herself, has to run back and plant a kiss on his cheek. She then takes off running, Gerard shouting after her.
GERARD LEBLANC
I did it for one reason, and one reason only! Because I love you!
INT. OFFICE (DAY)
Jesi is at her desk, in a conversation with Joe Schmidt. Michael’s listening in, giving her prompts.
JESI
(into phone)
Okay Joe, first off, I went to the Natural Resources Agency to get the full scoop on future ocean rise along the California coast. It’s not nearly as bad as I expected. So, I took the buyer to the Agency next day, and can you believe it, he got all of his questions answered. He’s agreed to move ahead with the purchase.
Michael gives Jesi a big thumbs up.
JOE (O.S.)
Are you sure he’s not gonna sue me?
JESI
He can’t. He did his due diligence, checked out all future potential downside.
JOE SCHMIDT
I’m not sure I really like this Dude. He’s trouble. Why don’t you let me think about it.
JESI
All right Joe. Fine with me. Just let me know by tomorrow.
She ends the call, throws her head into her hands.
JESI
Damn, and I thought residential sales was difficult.
The minute she disconnects Michael is yelling, over the top. Gizelle is shuffling through the file.
MICHAEL
Escrow called. Manhattan Beach just closed! Wow, thirty units just bit the dust. Commission checks in two days!
JESI
Thanks guys, now I can breathe again. Though, most of it will go to the IRS.
EXT. JOHNSON HOME (EVENING)
Jesi arrives home, finds Gerard waiting on the doorstep.
GERARD LEBLANC
I couldn’t wait.
He pops the cork on a bottle of champagne. Pulls two glasses from his coat pocket. Walks her to the outside patio. She sits while he pours.
JESI
Wait a minute!
She jumps up, runs into the home and turns on Sinatra. The song, “ You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me.”
She returns and sits down on his lap and kisses him. She pulls back with a smile.
JESI
The answer again is “Yes.”

Christi’s Act 4 Resolution
I learned that when you massively rewrite Act 3, your original Resolution still works. Impressively.
To be fair, when the concept for the film came to me, I saw the resolution first. Now that I can see the script for it’s moving parts, I’m happy to save for the professional once over. Of course, not until September will I have the funds for that.
