“He killed his father and stole another man’s wife. Should a cop be doing that?”

I’ve recently polished a script that I would like to submit for your consideration.

    Here’s a brief recap:

Detective Rich Holliday gets a letter from his, recently deceased, unknown birth mother, delivered by a sister he never knew existed. Same mother, different fathers. Finding his father turns out to be more than locating his father, as layer after layer of evidence reveals a political scandal from years ago, involving both his parents. Complicating his search, is his love affair with his married partner.

I’ve had one script, “Casino’s Corner” made into a movie. I’ve also had two others, “Streetplayer” and “Party At Pamela’s House” that were optioned, but never made it to production.

Please let me know if you’re interested in reading “Rhapsody In Blue.”

    Larry Ridlen’s Query Letter

What I learned doing this assignment is…

    Keep it SHORT.

Is it possible to combine all realities into a perfect one?

Jim has the power to merge alternate realities. The problem is, he doesn’t know it. His befuddled path begins when he meets the woman of his dreams, Kim. She hates drugs. So does he.

Too bad he’s secretly a drug runner for the mob.

On a drug run in Jamaica, Herbie, a Rastafarian, trains Jim to use his power. Kim gets kidnapped! Executing a desperate plan to rescue her, Jim tries to use his reality-bending powers to create the perfect reality.

Turns out… Jim worked for the FBI all along!

If you like the concept, I’d be happy to send the script, BEFUDDLED PATH.

BIO: An optioned screenwriter with an IMDB credit, Larry’s scripts have placed in numerous contests including PAGE and ScreenCraft.

Respectfully, I am overwhelmed with work and life and cannot get myself back to finishing these assignments. So I will be bowing out as of this lesson. Thanks for the upbuilding words, and the insights into the industry. I will still refer back to these lessons, should I ever find myself in a position to do so. Thanks for everything!

    Joan Dougherty’s query letter

    Title: OVER THE EDGE

    Written by Joan Dougherty

    Genre: Drama / Fantasy

What lengths will someone go to keep a secret safe?

Tiago’s so desperate that he arrests a visiting storyteller, a childhood friend, to keep her silent.

And once Sofia’s locked inside, Tiago thinks he’s finally safe. How wrong could he be?

She uses her wits as a storyteller to wrest control away from him and brings into her cell characters from a tale told at the opening. They wreak havoc on his life and his ability to suppress the truth.

    How can he survive?

Forced to return to the past and the place where his secret began, he tells his story of childhood trauma and his failure to protect his friend. Shattered but relieved, he’s then ready to go over the edge into the heart of the human story to be renewed.

If you like the concept, I’d be happy to send you the script.

    Sincerely,

    Joan Dougherty

BIO: Joan is a writer with a lifelong interest in storytelling who’s made the transition from print to film. Last year, Over the Edge reached the quarterfinals of the WeScreenplay Shorts contest and this year was given a “Consider” at The Script Lab’s Free Screenplay Contest.
