What I learned rewriting my scene is that with a secret as big as this one, a three part reveal with a demand will make its revelation all the more powerful.

What I learned rewriting my scene/character…
My character is compelling in that, like Kate’s character, is unexpected. Looks are deceiving. My character is also very devious and psychotic, where Kate can be devious, but she does have a conscience. I believe that the most important thing I learned is the importance of understanding this exercise to dig into the secrets that can be revealed. And several ways I can create my own reveals throughout my scripts. Since my script is episodic, this allows more time to have those reveals come out in moments that make an action or dialogue more relevant to the viewer. I do hope that I can write my characters so they have those cool ah ha moments in an intelligent compelling way. <div>I got distracted from class assignments because I was writing on my script.</div> -
What I learned from this lesson is the power of this type of storytelling. The mystery and suspense genre. It is my personal favorite. It is also the genre I plan to write in. I am struggling with the multiple mysteries and set-ups and pay-offs because there are many conventions that must be present for this to work effectively. This genre is especially difficult in the early drafts. You cannot get impatient, and you have to complete each draft that adds another level of complexity. The difficulty is your belief in these early drafts. Have faith and create the framework for the magic. Then let it fly. These little moments add together. But sometimes as you are building… it feels like it is not enough. This lesson showed me that it is worth the patience and it can be enough.

What I learned rewriting my character/scene?
I learned that my character holding a secret can put the audience in superior position with him/her as the secret is withheld from another character; this allows for the change of point of views within the narrative. These secrets create mysteries which draw in the audience’s attention leading them on story’s journey.
