    1. Please watch this scene and provide your insights/breakthroughs into what makes this character great from a writing perspective.

    2. Read the other writers comments and make notes of any insights/breakthroughs you like.

    3. Rethink or create a scene for your script using your new insights and rewrite that scene/character.

What I learned is that I want it to be clear the incredible heroic nature of what Gilgamesh does at the epicenter of the story. He does not have to help Christina escape. He has suffered greatly to know what he knows. He will also suffer because of giving his help. But he does it anyway because he knows her soul.

How does the character accomplish the following:

Fitting ending based upon who they have been.

    – when he finally gets his chance, he makes an impactful play

They experience the end in their own unique way.

    – even though he’s not sure what to do, he goes all out in the last play

This brings their journey to a conclusion.

    – he gets to play in a game of his beloved team

    What makes these characters engaging?

    – he’s an innocent who gives everything he’s got

How are they expressing their profile?

He sprints onto the field & again during the last play of the game.

Where do you see character depth in this scene?

    – when he asks “where do I go?”

I have not seen the movie, but from the one scene it looks like the ultimate rooting for the underdog. The unanimous support for Rudy must have been earned throughout the film by Rudy and he came through when he got his moment.

Week 3 Day 5: Character Ending – RUDY

How does the character accomplish the following:

    · Fitting ending based upon who they have been.

Rudy is finally allowed to make a play in an actual game.

    · They experience the end in their own unique way.

Rudy is happy to just be allowed out on the field during an actual play. When he is told to stay in the game for the next play, he does what he’s lived his entire life knowing he could do: he made the perfect tackle.

    · This brings their journey to a conclusion

He has fulfilled his life’s ambition.

    1. What makes these characters engaging?

Rudy refuses to take no for an answer, and despite the drastic difference in his size, he takes on the biggest and baddest of his detractors and proves them all wrong.

    2. How are they expressing their profile?

Rudy has a dream. He’s had that same dream his whole life. He doesn’t quit, he doesn’t get pushed down without getting back up and trying again and again and again, until people finally take him seriously and he gets the opportunity he’s waited a lifetime for.

    3. Where do you see character depth in this scene?

Do you have any idea how hard it is to be told you’re not good enough, and never will be, and to just keep on coming and taking whatever metric ton of crap everyone keeps doling out, trying to rob you of your goals? That’s Rudy. He proved that he was tougher and more determined than anyone else.

Rudy’s lifelong dream is to go to Notre Dame and play on the football team. But, in reality, both are unfathomable because he has a learning disability and he’s way too small to play football. But, he’s got heart and determination. A mentor helps him to improve his learning and with great effort, he gets accepted to Notre Dame. He then tries out for the practice football team and even though he is far outmatched, he perseveres. As graduation draws near, Rudy’s dream to be on the field during the game is realized when a Player gives up his position so Rudy can be seen as part of the team in the final game. When other students, parents, and faculty realize Rudy is on the field, they cheer him on to have the coach let him play. With only 1 minute to go, Rudy is put in for one play, after which he prepares to return to the sidelines. However, with time still on the clock, the coach surprises him by letting him stay for the final play. He shows his grit by making the tackle on the final play. So, against all odds, Rudy has attained everything he has strived for. An endearing story of triumph for the ultimate underdog.
