    Alia Munn’s world and characters!

What I learned from this assignment – by using the Big MIS for each of my main characters, I can see where the patterns emerge in each of them in order to connect them to the larger theme, which is layered with intrigue and suspense.

    The Remembering

CONCEPT : A roadmap of elemental signs and clues reveal multiple timelines being played out for our key characters. The discovery is a journey to them remembering who they are on a soul level, how they are ultimately connected, and what purpose they are serving on Earth.

WORLD: Multi-dimensional reality – traversing across timelines and in and out of hidden realms, and ancient and future civilizations.

Big Mystery: Five Main Characters driven to discover multi-dimensional reality through the elements of earth, air, water, fire and ether, against all odds of forces working against memory and revelations.

Big Intrigue: Hidden forces that take on a multitude of guises to distort, distract, and invert perceptual reality for five main characters: Earth, Air, Water, Fire and Ether

Big Suspense: seen and unseen forces that behave as a hyper-dimensional vampiric entity that the elemental characters must overcome.

HERO: What makes our hero at first unwitting or unknowing, but is resourceful enough to become a worthy adversary and ultimately to defeat the villain?

Joan (one of five main characters) discovers she is being followed and does not know who it is or why. She dreams of a luminous child, who witnesses horrible events. Joan has visions of her and thinks at first it is this mysterious child following her in physical life. But the child is trying to inform her of the government agents and their goal to murder her and steal her soul. When Joan is able to communicate directly with the child on the astral plane, she realizes that the child is not only her protector, but is a version of herself that had split off at the age of 3 during a brutal/ traumatic event. The child exists outside of time and space, and has the ability to travel in a variety of realms, perceiving all. When Joan is able to heed the advice of the child, who lives among the un-dead, she becomes a worthy adversary to defeat the villain.

VILLAIN: What makes our villain as interesting, powerful, and as dangerous as possible for the hero?

The Villain is a multitude of agents that are black magicians invested in taking Joan out, and are also able to traverse multiple realms, but in addition to that, they have the ability to manifest physically in this realm and appear as normal people – a power that the child does not have. The child must activate Joan’s consciousness in order to defeat the villain in this realm. But the agents have the child, who is the key to revelation, trapped in a realm dedicated to containing and controlling her.

RED HERRING: Who is the person who looks guilty that we focus our investigation on, but we find out that their “guilt” or scheme was about another issue, not this one?

The landlords who live next door manipulate and gas-light Joan in this realm, are guilty of their bizarre and petty actions – entering her home and stealing jewelry and other items, (related to her ability to remember what happened to her) having sex in her living room while she is sleeping in the next room, and so on, but their strings are being pulled by a far greater force in the attempt to kill Joan and steal her soul.

    What
is the mystery of this character?<div>

Joan: why is she being followed and manipulated – what happened to her as a child?

Agents: Why are they so hell bent on pursuing Joan at all costs?

Landlords: Who put them up to luring and manipulating Joan?

    What
is the intrigue of this character?</div><div>

Joan: Her ability to tune into signs, symbols and extra-sensory perception.

Agents: Their ability to traverse across timelines and appear as “normal” people interacting with Joan

Landlords: Their relentless covert activities that are often bizarre and seemingly meaningless

    <div>
    </div>

    What
is the suspense of this character?

Joan: Will she overcome the agents, which will lead to a greater understanding of who she is and where she came from?

Agents: If their ultimate goal is realized, then what happens to them and why?

Landlords: How are they mind-controlled and will their egregious behavior be revealed and condemned in court by Joan?

All five characters are mapped using the layering of Big MIS as a way to identify how they are all ultimately connected in this and other realms.

    1. What are the conventions of your story?

    Unwitting but Resourceful Hero:
Joan, guided by the Fire Element and visited by a luminous child spirit in
her dreams and visions – the audience sees the child standing outside of
time and space, objectively witnessing the dark actions of the Earth
    Destroyers. <div>

    Dangerous Villain: Earth
    Destroyers

High stakes: Unmitigated chaos on Earth,
agents seeking to murder/destroy Joan and steal her soul

    Life and death situations:
Gas-lighting, tracking and tracing and attempted murder of Joan since she
was a baby, having been born into a precious blood line.

    This story is thrilling
because? Twists and turns of Villains and Angels

    2. Tell us the Big M.I.S. of your story?

Big Mystery: Who is this child (the Divine Feminine Virgin Kali) with
paranormal powers and why is she impossible to kill?

Big Intrigue: What does the US Government have to do with it?

Big Suspense: Will the dark entities be allowed to destroy the planet?

Who are the four Elemental Goddesses and how did they find each other? Who sent them and why? What will they do to impede the earth destroyers? Who created chaos in the world’s governments? What is the purpose of the chaos? Are they really just having fun?

    3. Answer the question “What I learned doing this assignment” is: how to set the stage for intrigue via twists and turns and hidden identities.

Log Line: A woman looking into the fire of her wood-burning stove envisions a luminous child witnessing the attempted murder of herself as a two year old.

Assignment 1 – Conventions of Thrillers

What I learned doing this assignment:

Movie Chosen: The Woman in the Window

Unwitting but Resourceful Hero: Anna Fox: on constant alert, but plagued with guilt and grief about the past and addicted to pills and alcohol so her perspective and convictions about what she is seeing and hearing are constantly questionable. She is agoraphobic, which further traps her in her ability to seek help from the outer world.

Dangerous Villain: Alistair Russell, who dominates and gas-lights Anna; has the police on his side in proving she is a delusional, crazy cat lady.

High stakes: Several questionable and creepy characters surround her in the covering up of murder; her own life is in danger, as she tries to rescue Alistair’s son from his father

Life and death situations: She witnesses the murder of a woman and believes the son is also in danger, but the son is a deceptive, murderous figure who pretends to be vulnerable.

This movie is thrilling because? The audience is constantly grasping at the truth of what is happening behind layers of deception – there are no “good” characters except for a policeman who is being deceived at every turn.

    3. What is the BIG Mystery, Intrigue, and Suspense of this story?

Big Mystery: Is Anna delusional or is her perspective valid?

Big Intrigue: Who is the woman who was murdered?

Big Suspense: Will Anna be vindicated?

    4. Anything else you’d like to say about what made this movie a great thriller? Midway through we see the car accident that Anna caused that killed her husband and child (an argument that indicates she was cheating on her husband) – the smashed car appears in her living room as she awakens to her own nightmare, while the police and neighbors stand there witnessing her in this traumatic unfolding. It presents right in the middle so that the audience is questioning the truth as her perspective about the murder collapses. Twists and turns in perspective – there are no innocent players and the truth is constantly hidden until the end.

    Hi Everyone!

My name is Alia and I had created a series and written the pilot for that some time ago. It had been dropped by our producer and I haven’t written anything since! I have a new series concept that I am working on and have yet to write a script for it – but have taken this class as a way to re-frame my perspective based on the Thriller Map. Grateful to be here and looking forward to delving in! I love to binge-watch series while crocheting rugs and bags out of used tee shirts like a mad woman.
