I am not sure if we need to put this out here but I would love to have some feedback on the show concept and everything from the pre-lessons 🙏

Choose a Plot Line for your show.

Plot nr 1 : An innocent in a mission in a strange world.

Short pitch : When a phone call shatters the identity of a young detective, her life will change forever / she wont stop until she finds the truth.

Start brainstorming ideas for your show concept. What makes your show unique? Hook, journey, world, conflict, character?

The journey of Natalie is unique as we are witnessing her transformation from an irresponsible and partying young lady into a fearless woman in the pursuit of truth and justice.

We haven’t seen yet a main character in a dual East-European – American crime drama action. We haven’t seen a series with Romanian origins and Romania – USA relationship as the main character influence. We haven’t seen Romanian influence in a main character and the mix of Romanian with American origins. We had only seen Romania as the bad apple when it comes to bad guys in the crime action: the drug dealers, the traffic persons, the kidnappers, the weapon dealers etc. It’s time to change the narrative.

NATALIE is a SERIAL TV. I am aiming to create 4 to 6 seasons where audience can identify and find healing or get closure through the characters.(INTENTION)

1.Big Picture Hooks of NATALIE

The big hook of Natalie is that she goes in the pursuit of her parents killer and in the process she finds out she is not who is said to be. As she goes in his pursuit (later will be found out is actually a mob), she becomes more and more confused of who she is, where she is coming from, who is her real family? She becomes fearless as she doesn’t know who to trust more.

A young detective’s life comes to ashes when she finds out her parents were killed and she is not who she is supposed to be.

2.INTRINGUING CHARACTER

There is nothing that can stop her to find out who she is and where her parents killer is. Her life and others life depends on her. She is determined, smart, multilingual, a leader.

What makes your show unique?

It’s a unique perspective between USA and Romanian world, between of the subworlds exposed through a main character like never before ( corruption, adoption, lgbtqi, mob, politic, racism, immigration, cultural, education and social emotional life in Romania during communism, communism life, Romanian Revolution in 1989, life after Revolution, geopolitical help between USA and RO during and after Revolution, social issues in USA during present times, crimes in USA and RO).

What is the unique World is is set in?

RO – USA and the subworlds.

What is the major Transformational Journey your hero is going on?

From an irresponsible, party person to a powerful & confident leader, ready for justice.

Who is the main character of the show and what makes them highly proactive?

Natalie – after she finds out about her parents deaths, she will do anything to find out who she is and where the criminal is. -FINDING JUSTICE & TRUTH.

3.Empathy / Distress

Natalie losing her family and her pursuit for truth and justice.

4.Open Loops

Will she succeed finding the killer? Why her real dad came out of his hiding just now ? What her adoptive parents have to hid? Who she is ? Who anyone else knows about her adoption? Who can she trust in her journey ? Will she have real people next to her ? Is she going to be killed? Will she find out the truth ? How she will find out who the criminals are ? Who now she is going to become knowing that she isn’t who she is ? How this change is going to impact her ? Are her mom and brother alive ? Who is alive in Romania? (this highlighted q later in the season 1) Is her adoptive brother going to get revenge on her? How he is going to get revenge on her? Who is her adoptive brother?

5.Inviting Obsession

What happens when she find the killer ? What happens when she investigates more about her origins & what she will find out? What happens if her adoptive brother gets revenge? What happens if she gets closer to the truth? What happens if she finds out about her adoptive parents past and the connection with her biological dad?

As a background of the show am I creating – crime drama – (for the moment the name) is NATALIE and is about a young police detective whose life is about to change forever when she receives a life changing call.

Her name is Natalie, she is adopted ( she doesn’t know) she is from Romania, East Europe and her bio family was killed when civil Revolution in Romania started, back in 1989. She was adopted by an American family. What she doesnt know is that her brother and mother are alive. Her brother knows he is adopted and that he had a sister. He thought she died in that evening during the revolution. He is a detective in NYC. Their mom is in hiding in Paris, France with their dad (I am still debating on the dad).

All her life changes when her adoptive parents are killed by someone from the past and she needs to step up and be the best detective and find the killer.

NATALIE’S MAIN CHARACHTERS:

Natalie( main character), Cameron (adoptive brother), Olivia (her adoptive mother), Edward(adoptive father), Logan( Victor Gabriel / Razvan/ Alin/ Mircea (still debating which name) -biological brother), Philippe(Dan-biological father), Chantal(Zelma-biological mother)

NATALIE’S CONNECTED CHARACTERS:

Diana(co-worker, bff/wife), Laurie(bff), Samuel(mentor), David(boss), Liam(future ex husband), Simon(lover in the pilot), Ryan(coworker), Tim(coworker), Alexandra (her neighbour), George (newspaper guy)….

NATALIE’S ENVIRONMENTAL CHARACTERS:

Mob world, the law enforcement staff, neighbours, friends of friends, friends of lovers, anyone else…

Give us a one sentence description of each of the Main Characters.

Natalie – From party girl she becomes a leader in the pursuit of justice. Young Strong, vulnerable with hobbies of her own. She always felt like something was missing. Smart, determinate, easy going and with a big heart. She is more multilingual than she lets people know.

Cameron – insecure and though – using bulling as a weapon to not connect with people and see for who he is : a soft soul, insecure, always comparing himself with his sister and chasing his father love. He can become a villain in a second. We will discover later more about his mental health in the series.

Olivia – lovely devoted mother and spouse with a dark past. She is a well known law teacher at a prestigious college in Chicago and lawyer at one of the biggest law firm Olivia & Associates.

Edward – Superintendent of Police. Loving and kind man who loves his job, family and will do anything to keep Chicagoans safe, but he has created his family life based on a lie.

Logan – Strong, intuitive guy, funny who has a charm with women. He searches adventure everywhere he goes. He wanted to became a pilot but roads lead him to be detective in NYC.

Philippe and Chantal are characters to keep working on, as I am not yet decided. Romanian characteristics for sure, influenced now, by the life they are having in the hiding.

“What I learned doing this assignment is…?”

That writing a script & screenplay is one of the most challenging, beautiful and creative ways to express yourself. That small details can pass by if you don’t pay attention and that you become THE CHARACTERS. Living and breathing through them and get involved wholeheartedly with them, there, in their lives. I found out is a creative healing way to express modern issues and bring closure or healing for people through the characters. It’s challenging and amazing and I found out about the 5 star points.

RIverdale 5 Star Points

BIG PICTURE HOOKS – The crime of Justin Blosoom changing the city forever and the dynamic between characters.

INTRIGUING CHARACTER – ARCHIE -Mysterious, loves music and songwriting as a therapy or disclosure, has a secret relationship with his musical teacher, feels like he is responsible for his dad happiness.

EMPATHY / DISTRESS – Jason’s murder (distress), Cheryl’s pain (empathy), Archie and his musical teacher hearing the shot (distress), Betty being hurt when Veronica goes with Archie in the closet (empathy), Jason’s body in the river (distress), Veronica feeling sad at home after dance (empathy) etc.

OPEN LOOPS: Who killed Jason? Did Cheryl killed her own brother? What happened on the river? Is there other reason than the betrayal of her husband that Hermione moved to Riverdale with her daughter? Will Archie and Betty be together? Did Veronica knew Archie before moving in Riverdale? Did Archie’s dad sent the money to Hermione ? Is Archie Veronica’s step brother?

INVITING OBSESSION : Finding out who killed Jason.

From this 1st ASSIGNMENT I learned how to do the 5 Star Points and how easily we can superficially look into something. When I watched the second time #1 Episode I could see things I overlooked the first time. 😃

1. My name is Lina Iorgovan and a friend of mine and producer recommend me this class to me as I want to make one of my dreams reality and create a crime drama (police) screenplay and help people through it. I am obsessed with everything that is NCIS, CSI, Chicago Police, Chicago Fire, Chicago Police, SVU and one of my biggest dreams is to write a screenplay that inspires, heals, brings justice and light to things never seen or talked before.

2. This will be my first script and I am eager to learn everything about it.

3. I hope to get clarity and ease on how to do the screenplay and talk with potential producers and why not meet new people along the way.

4. Something unique about me is that I speak 5 languages and my other job is psychic medium / massage therapist and this year I am moving to Arizona to have my advanced degree in massage therapy. At the moment I am living in Paris, France and I am from Romania. Ok those were more than 1 thing 😁

Hi Cheryl and everyone, I just enrolled in January 2023 class and I wrote a message to customer service as I enrolled in July 2022 for the same class BINGEWORTHY TV but then I never received an id and password so here I am again. I dont see where to post my introduction for January 2023 group so I will add it here:

Hi I am Lina Iorgovan and this will be my first script. I want to write a crime drama script, inspired from my home country Romania and my passion for crime police dramas as NCIS, CSI, CASTEL, HAWAII 5-O. I know what I want from my script – to help people – and I am humbled to be guided by you and Hal.

A producer and show runner friend who did this class recommend it to me as the first step in my journey to create the script. 🙏

I hope I can get from this class clarity and confidence on how to prepare my script and market to potentials producers and make a deal with streamers as Netflix or Hulu. ❤

Hi Wayne – Cheryl can correct me but I think for the BIG PICTURE HOOK is what catches the interest and attention of the audience – what you wrote I think works best for the Open Loops. For Big Loop I will write – Survival on an estranged island/ A group of people fighting for survival on an estranged island or something like this.
