Counse here. I written one good script and hope to use this class to get a good tv script written. I’ve worked on over 60 film and tv shows and including getting to be part of a core group that portrayed reporters in the Clint Eastwood movie Richard Jewell. Getting to see a director such as Mr Eastwood direct on set was a thrill. Ive also been playing around with animation, doing tiktok animations for the past couple years.

    OR

NOT AGREE, in which case, you hit “Reply to this topic” and type in the words “I’ll do the class privately.”

If you agree to the terms of the release form, then you can post your assignments into the group and your cohort can give feedback on them.

Also, if you don’t agree to this group confidentiality agreement, you’ll still need to sign an agreement that says you will keep the strategies, teleconferences, communications, lessons, and models of the class confidential.

    GROUP RELEASE FORM

As a member of this group, I agree to the following:

    1. That I will keep the processes, strategies, teleconferences, communications, lessons, and models of the class confidential, and that I will NOT share any of this program either privately, with a group, posting online, writing articles, through video or computer programming, or in any other way that would make those processes, teleconferences, communications, lessons, and models of the class available to anyone who is not a member of this class.

    2. That each writer’s work here is copyrighted and that writer is the sole owner of that work. That includes this program which is copyrighted by Hal Croasmun. I acknowledge that submission of an idea to this group constitutes a claim of and the recognition of ownership of that idea.

I will keep the other writer’s ideas and writing confidential and will not share this information with anyone without the express written permission of the writer/owner. I will not market or even discuss this information with anyone outside this group.

    3. I also understand that many stories and ideas are similar and/or have common themes and from time to time, two or more people can independently and simultaneously generate the same concept or movie idea.

    4. If I have an idea that is the same as or very similar to another group member’s idea, I’ll immediately contact Hal and present proof that I had this idea prior to the beginning of the class. If Hal deems them to be the same idea or close enough to cause harm to either party, he’ll request both parties to present another concept for the class.

    5. If you don’t present proof to Hal that you have the same idea as another person, you agree that all ideas presented to this group are the sole ownership of the person who presented them and you will not write or market another group member’s ideas.

    6. Finally, I agree not to bring suit against anyone in this group for any reason, unless they use a substantial portion of my copyrighted work in a manner that is public and/or that prevents me from marketing my script by shopping it to production companies, agents, managers, actors, networks, studios or any other entertainment industry organizations or people.

  • We see that Junah is struggling, and find it odd he’s hitting golf balls at night (How does one even tell where the ball went – he’s striking in the dark, literally). Vance appears out of the darkness adding air of mystery – where’d he come from, why does he appear to have such knowledge of golf?

I had a problem with Will Smith’s southern accent and that took me out of the scene for starters. In reading some other internet pieces, I came across a quote of Spike Lee referring to the character as a “Magic Negro” and a problem. He claimed it was a new “phenomenon” of having an African-American character imbued with special powers. He noted to an audience at Calhoun College “How is it that black people have these powers but they use them for the benefit of white people?” (Ref: http://archives.news.yale.edu/v29.n21/story3.html )

While the screenwriters have said the plot is loosely based on the Hindu sacred text the Bhagavad Gita (ref: https://www.monstersandcritics.com/movies/is-the-legend-of-bagger-vance-a-true-story/ ). I found that interesting to create characters that are telling a parable of ancient wisdom but through a more modern lens. That was interesting to me.

I was reading online some other quotes from later in the movie and thinking how this scene also helps set up some of those later confrontations. Will is booksmart but his actual life experiences have been limited – – he’s not been outside of Boston; has been anxious and unwilling to let anyone truly into his life that he can experience love and loss. The scene with Sean (Robin Williams) where he lambasts Will by saying he realized the cocky responses mean nothing because Will, while he can recite the picture, can’t cite the smell or actual experience of being in the Sistine chapel, smelling its smells, experiencing its sights. And for Will to have his breakthrough, he must open himself up to potential loss and experience life.

    1. Name? Counse Broders

    2. How many scripts you’ve written? have worked on several but none I’ve quite been able to finish. Most of the writing I used to do was in the corporate world of technology analysis, so its been a push for me to switch gears to the character side of things.

    3. What you hope to get out of the class? Hope to gain a greater mastery of fleshing out characters to help drive some of the script ideas I have in my head and bring them to life. This past year, I’ve been making animation shorts on tiktok, and I’d like to apply some of this to making these stronger.

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? Have worked on over 60 films and movies, typically as background for productions in Atlanta. Its let me experience productions once the script is done and see how these stories come to life. My secret thrill of recent times was getting to work on a Clint Eastwood movie (Richard Jewell) and get a couple seconds of screen time featured as a reporter, as well as being in the press scrum jostling with Sam Rockwell.

Will – MATT DAOMON – observer, Defender; Brings the noise

CHUCKIE – BEn AFFLECK – COCKY; Overconfident

Skylar – Minnie Driver — Easy to Forgive; Can root for the little guy; self assured.

What drama did the writers create to trigger and deliver these traits?

Chuckie, in trying to hit up the girls, suddenly finds his lines about history class put him in a tough situation, where Will steps in. Will can recite passages and page numbers from memory to win the game of “smarts” but then caps it by saying they can take it outside if they need to (implying resorting to street thuggery. It helps show us Will is genius level for knowledge but still not past his street past.

Chuckie’s history pick up line leads into demonstrating Will’s knowledge.

Why do you think the group picked a Harvard bar?

Plays up the difference between “Townies” and the students. Also does the dichotomy of is it book smart or street smart? Does it matter having a college eduction if you are a genius.
