    Dominic’s Character Profiles pt2

Assignment 3 of 30 Day Screenplay:

What I learned from this assignment was JUST HOW IMPORTANT it is to listen to the empowerment audio. I obviously listened to it the first day and thought I had it down but today I was short of time and wanted to make sure did this but at the same time wanted to do it better than the other assignments. I also wanted to anchor JOY to this process so I took 3 deep breaths and actually listened intently to the empowerment audio and took the steps as if my life depended on it and it made all the difference in the world!!!! Another thing I did was attach all the previous character profile parts to this assignment so I could get a better look at my character and keep going back to those as a reference point.

    Character Profile: JAMES MAYER

TITLE: “The Faze” (or) “Grey Zone” (or) “Grey Cycle.”

    GENRE: Sci-fi / Horror.

CHARACTER PROFILE FOR THE LEAD CHARACTER: James Mayer.

    AGE RANGE: 18 – 20 years old.

ROLE: James is a dreamer who wishes he was a hero but ends up becoming an explorer. He must explore the paranormal events that are taking place at his neighbors house and uncover what’s causing the horrors in their house which seem to be leaking into the neighborhood.

DESCRITPION: Good looking kid with a girlfriend and a relationship that’s barely hanging on by a thread but he doesn’t know it. He’s soft in the inside but has bravery hidden away in deep dark places, hidden to keep him safe.

WHAT DRAWS OUR ATTENTION TO HIM: He has a lot of hidden talents and hidden ambitions that he only shows to certain people. He’s our eyes and ears throughout this unbelievable paranormal event taking place throughout the neighborhood and unlike the other kids at the party he takes his camera work semi-serious. When we’re shown clips from their footage it’s bad and amateurish at best, but he uses a selfie stick and was born to do this.

TRAITS: Clever, Lazy, Outgoing, Controlling, Reflecting (overthinker)

SUBTEXT: He’s always probing trying to learn things about others, mainly so he can have them do something instead of him having to do it. He tries to use his intelligence as a weapon against insults and treats others really well so they’ll help him out in return.

FLAW: His capacity to appeal to others when they’re not useful to him and that he’s so AFRAID OF SUCCEEDING that he self sabotages himself because he refuses to end up like his father I.E. the laziness. But he desperately wants to succeed to be better than his father, a horrible circle of chaos.

VALUES: Power, Safety, Appreciation / Being Loved or Admired, and Authenticity in others.

IRONY: He’s so AFRAID OF SUCCEEDING that he self sabotages by being lazy and valuing risk aversion because he refuses to end up like his father who took a risk and fell flat on his face. There’s IRONY THERE because even though the father failed hard, he took the shot of a lifetime and James NEEDS TO RECOGINZE HOW BRAVE THAT IS AND THE KEY IS TO TAKE THE SHOTS and get back up.. But he desperately wants to succeed to be better than his father, a horrible circle of chaos.

WHAT MAKES HIM THE RIGHT CHARACTER FOR THIS ROLE: This is just the event he needs to find the courage in himself and he’s just the type of person who once pushed, will stay when everyone leaves which results in him being the last person to film the final minuets of the event and documenting the answer to how to stop it.

INTERNAL JOURNEY: James goes from having grand dreams but in love with staying in his comfort zone and thinking time in never ending to… risking everything and being strong for others.

EXTRENAL JOURNEY: From a wannabe Tik-Tok influencer to saving our very plain of existence with no thought of being rewarded.

    OLD WAYS:

    – Wanting things to change but never taking action to do so

    – Lazy

    – Thinking life is only about views, riches, and fame.

    – Never confronting his own weaknesses

    NEW WAYS:

    – Takes action

    – Being proactive

    – Understanding the value of life

    – Sacrificing for others

    – Stepping outside of his comfort zone and confronting fear

MOTIVATION: Becoming famous on Tik-Tok and having a social media career.

EXTRA THEME OF THIS MOVIE: This movie is a metaphor for an entire generation who think they’ll make a living off the internet and then when REALITY (the EVENT in this movie) sets in and youtube, Tik-Tok go out of business and they have to get real jobs, only a few will survive.

WOUND: He never talks about it but he saw his dad die OR saw his family crumble as his father went through a few horrible years where he took a chance, started his own business, lost of all the family’s money and had no job for years. He drank himself to death (AND WAS A MONSTER of sorts) to James, his brother, and mother. So James… (THIS IS AN ECHO OF THE THE THEME…) so James has been through rough times and doesn’t want to end up like his father.

(ONE OF THE MONSTERS IN THE END CAN BE HIS FATHER/ POSESSED FATHER, ETC.)

MISSION/AGENDA: To discover what’s happening at his house and the neighbors, an event that’s interrupting a party he’s hosting.

SECRET: His failure to stop looking for and easy way out + he’s terrified .

WHAT MAKES HIM SPECIAL: Everyone else left the neighborhood when the event began. Everyone at the party besides his brother and a tiny group of friends leave. He stays behind at first because he realizes this is a lottery ticket moment if he can get this footage and having the career his father never could. Then when he realizes it’s life or death and children from the house are in trouble he’s the only one who stays to help. He’s special because HE’S THE ONLY ONE THAT HAD FULL FOOTAGE of the event.

    30 DAY SCRIPT CLASS

    ASSIGNMENT 2

    Dominic’s Character Profiles Part 1:

What I learned from this assignment was that I have to let go of some of the old habits I have from old classes and really come to terms with speed writing. I’m so used to the Proseries or Masterclass where you take a few months to come up with scripts and character profiles, so it was very surprising to read the words “JUST GO WITH THE FIRST THING THAT POPS IN YOUR HEAD” from an S.U. assignment. But I’m getting better at it and discovering a lot of things about this story that I had no idea about and probably never would stuck with if I had more time.

TITLE: “The Faze” (or) “Grey Zone” (or) “Grey Cycle.”

    GENRE: Sci-fi / Horror.

CHARACTER PROFILE FOR THE LEAD CHARACTER: James Mayer.

    Dominic’s Transformational Journey:

Firstly, what I learned from this assignment was wow, I really let perfection seep into my writing process and work life as I’m seventeen days late with this. But I learned the keys to making not only the foundations for a script but a movie that has the recipe to be a classic. Now I had a big idea but no characters to go with it so I was stuck, but after going over this assignment and especially re-reading the line “Create a light version of the main character…” I did it all in one day. So if it looks or sounds horrible don’t worry it will improve, this is an incredibly ROUGH CUT.

The Concept: The working title is… “THE GREY CYCLE”

Again, this concept isn’t fully fleshed out but I had to get this done and it sprang from this idea…

“The police have pieced together a series of Tic Toks clips documenting a party at a young man’s house who lives next door to a house that hosts an event that nearly wiped out all mankind.”

(The seed idea being — to show us the neighbor’s perspective of events unfolding from movies like Poltergeist, Signs, Amvittyville Horror, etc. Catching lightning in a bottle essentially.)

#1. Who is the Hero and what is their Character Arc that represents a Transformation?

ANSWER: James Mayer is 18 – 20 years old.

INTERNAL JOURNEY: From having grand dreams but in love with staying in his comfort zone and thinking time is endless to risking everything and being strong for others.

EXTERNAL JOURNEY: From a wannabe TicTok influencer to saving our plain of existence with no thought of how it benefits him.

    OLD WAYS:

*Wanting things to change but never taking action to do so.

    *Lazy

*Believing life is all and only about getting views and achieving fame

    *Never confronting his own weaknesses.

    NEW WAYS:

    *Taking action

    * Being proactive

    * Understanding the VALUE of life itself

    * Sacrificing for others

    Hey,

I’m Dominic Matich and I’ve written 7-8 scripts and a MSC5 Alumni. I have a lot of tools in my toolbox but writing scripts quickly is not one of them and I’m constantly looking to improve my strengths and weaknesses, so here I am. Something unique or strange about me…hmmm I’m a published author, I had a kidney transplant when I was 23, I was a rapper signed to a label when I was younger in Detroit, and I’ve been a boxer and boxing trainer for close to 20 years (and I’m only 36).
