    Dorian Goto Stone Producer/Manager
    1) Producer
I am a writer/director specializing in grounded sci-fi. My recent accolades include multiple award wins for my sci-fi VR180 film called GEIMU, which I wrote and directed. I also won an award for my short sci-fi screenplay “Unknown”.
The project I am pitching today is the feature version of this.

    Genre: sci-fi, psychological thriller.
In the near future, in a society which has further separated into extreme wealth and abject poverty, the government is developing a technology that can alter a person’s personality and memories. A man and a woman work and live inside a windowless lab where they treat patients using this technology as part of the final trial phase of its development.
As they fall in love, the man starts to remember that he is an agent who was placed there by a secret organization to destroy the technology. The data exists inside her brain, so in order to destroy the technology, he will have to destroy her as well, an outcome which he wants to avoid at all costs.

    2) Manager

I am an avid science reader, and I enjoy seeking ways to incorporate hard science into my science fiction. My interests include artificial intelligence, psychology, quantum physics, astronomy and the origin of life.

    Subject Line: Dorian’s Marketable Components
    1) Logline: Two scientists in an underground lab working on neural implant technology that can alter people’s minds begin to realize that their own minds have been altered.
    2) Unique (big hook), Timely
    3) “Unknown” is a sci-fi suspense drama revolving around a neural implant technology that alters people’s minds. (Neural implants are microchips implanted in the brain.) Using this experimental technology, people can change their personalities in much the same way that people alter their physical appearances with cosmetic surgery. Patients can eliminate the parts of their own personalities that they don’t like, for instance, making themselves more intelligent and productive.
The story centers around two scientists – a man and a woman – who are running these experiments in a lab with an AGI. AGI stands for artificial general intelligence – which is the term for an AI that has achieved consciousness. As the experiments grow increasingly morally questionable, the two scientists begin to discover that their own minds have been altered and that they are not who they think they are, and that the AGI is on the cusp of enslaving the human race using this mind altering technology.
    4) What I learned doing this assignment is the importance of really focusing on just one or two big things from Ten Components of Marketability as opposed to many little things when pitching a script.

Title: Dorian Goto Stone Project and Market

    1. Genre: Sci-fi/Suspense, Title: Unknown (this is the title), Concept: Cosmetic surgery for the mind

    2. What if you could alter and improve your mind in the same way that people get cosmetic surgery to improve their physical appearance? This film is about a dystopian near-future in which two scientists are working together with an AGI (artificial general intelligence, i.e. a conscious AI) in a lab to create this technology. The two scientists eventually have the sinister realization that their own minds have been altered, and that the AGI and this technology, together, pose a threat to the survival of the human race.

    3. Managers because this would be the first time I would be trying to sell a screenplay and I could use their feedback

    4. A pitch is not a book report.

    Hi all,
    Dorian Goto Stone
I’m a filmmaker from the US, currently based in Japan.
I have written a half dozen shorts, one feature and one tv pilot (all specs). One of those shorts is a VR180 film (GEIMU, 2021) that I produced and directed and the other is a short film (Brothers, 2024) that I also directed.
From this class I hope to achieve the knowledge and tools to make my story ideas into clear, focused and marketable pitches. What Hal said about having this done before even writing the script really resonated with me. I am eager to achieve that high level of clarity.
Unique fact about me: I spent many childhood summers in Japan with the family of a martial arts master doing hard physical chores like Ralph Macchio’s character in the Karate Kid.
I look forward to our time together!

I agree to the terms of this release form.
    GROUP RELEASE FORM
As a member of this group, I agree to the following:
    1. That I will keep the processes, strategies, teleconferences, communications, lessons, and models of the class confidential, and that I will NOT share any of this program either privately, with a group, posting online, writing articles, through video or computer programming, or in any other way that would make those processes, teleconferences, communications, lessons, and models of the class available to anyone who is not a member of this class.
    2. That each writer’s work here is copyrighted and that writer is the sole owner of that work. That includes this program which is copyrighted by Hal Croasmun. I acknowledge that submission of an idea to this group constitutes a claim of and the recognition of ownership of that idea.
I will keep the other writer’s ideas and writing confidential and will not share this information with anyone without the express written permission of the writer/owner. I will not market or even discuss this information with anyone outside this group.
    3. I also understand that many stories and ideas are similar and/or have common themes and from time to time, two or more people can independently and simultaneously generate the same concept or movie idea.
    4. If I have an idea that is the same as or very similar to another group member’s idea, I’ll immediately contact Hal and present proof that I had this idea prior to the beginning of the class. If Hal deems them to be the same idea or close enough to cause harm to either party, he’ll request both parties to present another concept for the class.
    5. If you don’t present proof to Hal that you have the same idea as another person, you agree that all ideas presented to this group are the sole ownership of the person who presented them and you will not write or market another group member’s ideas.
    6. Finally, I agree not to bring suit against anyone in this group for any reason, unless they use a substantial portion of my copyrighted work in a manner that is public and/or that prevents me from marketing my script by shopping it to production companies, agents, managers, actors, networks, studios or any other entertainment industry organizations or people.
This completes the Group Release Form for the class.
