The Actress
Analysis of the scene:
Devi as a top actress has ben approached by a businessman, connected to the underground in washing dirty money , through investments in Casinos and movies, to join their organization as a director of operations.
Devi rejects this offer.But now, her pregnancy places her between the ‘Rock and a Hard place’ The change offers her power. To continue as an actress, ‘fame’.
She feels abandoned by the love of her life Vinod.
This is the breaking point.

Name of Story: The actress.
The setup:
Vinod and Devi are co-actors and have a close relationship that leads to sexual initimacy.
Devi is highly motivated to maintain her popularity as an actress. She is a Diva.
Pregnancy is unexpected and places Devi in a bind. She must choose between motherhood and her career as an actress.
Scene
During a break in shooting, Devi and Vinod vacation in Bali.They share moments of intimacy.
Weeks later:
FADE IN
A MAID RUBS DEVI’S BACK AS SHE RETCHES INTO A SINK.
A concerned look on Devi’s face.
CUT TO
A SIGN READS “WOMAN’S CLINIC”
A lady doctor walks into the exam room.
A radiology assistant performs an ultrasound on Devi’s lower
abdomen.
The doctor views the sonogram .
Devi’s concern shows on her face.
DOCTOR
The pregnancy test is positive and
your HCG counts are appropriate…
DOCTOR (CONT’D)

But, it is too early to see
anything on ultrasound…
We can re-scan in another four
weeks…
Devi’s eyes are moist.She maintains a brave front.
DEVI
My options doctor?…
DOCTOR
If you want to discuss, my nurse
will make an appointment…
CUT TO
INT.DEVI’S MANSON – EVENING
NANDI, the maid brings Devi a glass of juice.
Devi wipes away tears.
NANDI
Mam, anything I can do for you?
Devi shakes her head.
Nandi is concerned.
Devi is lost in her thoughts.
NANDI (CONT’D)
Madam should I call…sir.
Devi rejects the idea.Shakes Her head.
She looks into empty space.
INT. SAGAR STUDIOS – DAY
An attendant enters.
Sagar looks up.
ATTENDANT
Sir Devi’s assistant called…She
cannot attend the shoot today..
ATTENDANT (CONT’D)
She had to see her doctor.

What about Vinod?
ATTENDANT
He went to the hospital.
Sagar, confused and concerned.
Which hospital?
ATTENDANT (CONT’D)
Sir, no details.
CUT TO
HOSPITAL RECOVERY ROOM:
Devi is barely awake.
Nurse by her side checks her vital signs.
A monitor shows her heart rhythm.
There is a nasal cannula for oxygen.
An IV bag hangs on a pole. The tubing is connected to her
arm.
OUTSIDE:
Vinod talks to a nurse.
NURSE
She is stable, but we cannot tell
you anything more.
That is patient privacy.
VINOD
Please tell her that I am here.
The nurse nods.
INT.DEVI’S MANSON – DAY
Devi and Vinod are in her lounge.
VINOD
They would not tell me anything.
Devi considers.

Vinod frustrated:

DEVI
You mean, momentary passion…
VINOD
There was a baby involved.
DEVI
Too early to call it a baby…
VINOD

Devi gets angry.
You’re a man…You think like a
man…What would you know?
She wipes a tear.
Vinod attempts to comfort her, tries to hold her.
She walks out of the embrace.
DEVI
Don’t…Not now!
Devi (To herself)
Sagar will have to do without me…
