Halloween’s Horror Plot
What I learned doing this assignment is that multiple pressure vectors give a break from a singular source of tension.
ACT 1: setup for horror
-Atmosphere of evil established:
Saint Lucifer closes another deal on a group of failed teens who are dragged to hell by demons.
-Connect with the characters:
An offrenda with friends and family for a bride who was killed in a drive by, just as she was taking her vows.
-the characters are warned not to do it:
The broken hearted husband to be threatens a resurection spell. He is warned off by the elderly nanna who knows that this is a bad idea. Don’t disturb the dead. They bring with them hell if they are. Theme: Freedom is a bitch
-Denial of horror: The husband to be shrugs her off and casts the spell. He misses her too much. The spell can’t go wrong. The nanna is insistent. She tries to stop him.
-Safety is taken away: The spell is cast incorrectly and everyone is knocked out. There is a break in reality and the shadows come alive.
-Monster: The nature of the beast.
Demons materialize and chain themselves to various guests; including the priest who is there to oversee the remembrance.
ACT 2: The point of no return.
-Isolated/trapped/abducted:
The group scatter as the demons give chase. Ghost gangsters appear and shoot anyone trying to escape, in a recreation of the bride’s death. The gang of ghosts surround the church and prevent anyone from escaping; just as they did in life. All cellular service is cut off. there is no outside help as they learn that whatever demon they hurt in turn hurts the person they are a personification of.
-One of us is killed: The priest fails to overcome the demon chaisng him and leaves a message telling others what he thinks the demons are about. Solve the riddle of what the demon exemplifies in another person. Free them and free yourself.
MIDPOINT: The Monster is worse than we imagined.
-The bride, before just a shade and a ghost, materializes in the flesh and becomes corporeal. She can touch the family who came to remember her…and she commands the ghost gangsters to kill them.
-Full pursuit: the bride gives full chase to everyone and seems to be everywhere at once.
-Terrorized: On the run and trying to regroup, the family is hunted by the ghost gangsters and the demons. Under pressure they try to solve the riddle of the demons and try to dodge the ghost gangsters who seem to be banished with holy water and rosaries.
ACT 3: FULL OUT HORROR
-Fight to the Death: Lovers are torn apart as, under pressure they solve each other’s demons and secrets are revealed. Relationships are torn asunder and those that have not surrendered to love become demons themselves.
-Hysteria. As friends become demons and other seem to become angels they realize the awful truth of what happened.
-Death returns to take one more.
The priest returns to life and validates what they think happened then tells them how to defeat the murdered bride: Someone has to sacrifice themselves and become the bride’s demon.
-Resolution. The murdered bride faces her own demon and her power is gone. The ghost gang vanishes and what’s left of the family parts ways as they accept the truth.

Halloween’s Characters for Horror
What I learned doing this assignment is that characters don’t need to be perfect first time around.
Concept: During a remembrance service, the family of the murdered bride is hunted by the murdered bride when her husband to be casts a resurrection spell that goes horribly wrong.
Dying Pattern: A almost everyone dies.
Characters:
Leader: A defrocked priest. Named after a controversial Saint, he kept his transgender nature from the church and was defrocked when It found out. He keeps his status a secret from his parishioners.
Innocent: Magdalena, a high school senior and younger sister to the murdered bride. She represents the idealistic side of young love
Monster Bait: Cara, a woman who conflates love with sex and boasts her many lovers would die for her she is so good in bed.
Complainer: Cesar,a car mechanic who bitches about the fat that he was dragged here to this ceremony by his long suffering girlfriend.
Rebel: Jose, the young tough who swears violence can solve any answer but in reality has never thrown a punch and lives his life vicariously through T.V.
The Carrier: Mona, the Nanna, who pushed everyone together to come to the service. She keeps the memory of their family alive even though it is a highly dysfunctional one.
The Sacrificial Lamb: Jason, an idealistic hopeful college freshman who believes in the good in people. He dons her ex-fiancé’s garb and offers himself to her vengeance as a surrogate for the man who actually shot up the family.

Halloween’s Terrifying Monster
What I learned doing this assignment is how potent a monster can be when it taps into spoiled expectations of ones own life.
My monster is a murdered bride; killed at the altar.
Their Terror: The bride chases people in love. She makes a point to separate them and get them to reach out to each other which triggers her to kill them.
Their mystery: Just before her minions, the personifications of an individuals demons appear, she appears with bloody roses and dead children throwing rice. How do you survive if the only way to do it is to kill the person you love the most? The answer is to solve the riddle of what your demon is to the other person. If you can prove you’d die for the person you love you get to live. You prove you can die by facing their demons or you can kill that person and live. With no love left you have no reason to be killed by a jealous ghost. She wants to see you loveless or prove your undying sand true love
Their fear provoking appearance: A bloody rotted bride still in her wedding dress…and her wedding day song playing behind ghost children throwing rice. Bloody rice.
Their rules: Don’t say I love you. Don’t show emotional support. Don’t fight for anyone else lest you show your love and you get “locked into” her rage.

Subject Line: “The Cleansing Hour” Horror conventions
What I learned doing this assignment is the reminding that a concept can’t be copyrighted, only its expressions.
Title/Concept/; The Cleansing Hour. A fake priest conducts a real exorcism after his actress in the reality TV series actually gets possessed.
Terrorize the characters: As the possession progresses the possessed threats everyone’s lives on set unless they expose their deepest secrets to each other.
Isolation: Contained low budget film set
Death: Fire, hallucinations, strangulation and mummification in wires
Monster/Villian: An unknown demon
High Tension: as the fake priest tries to get control of the actual possession he keeps trying to play it off like he’s in control but he’s not. As the demon demands more and more secrets to be revealed each one threatens to change or break friendships.
Departure from Reality: All of the demonic manifestations.
Moral Statement: Don’t fuck with the Devil.
It was ultra low budget and contained. It was an unexpected treat.
My Concept.
Concept: A defrocked Priest tries to save the souls of the already deceased by making them confront what they were running from in life, before they are dragged to judgment.
Terrorize the characters: Each person is chained to a personification of someone else’s demons. They have to defeat the demon they are chained to by helping the person that it is a personification of overcome it but the person they are helping is, in turned tied to someone’s else’s demon and hurting the demon meanings hurting the person.
Isolation: An abandoned church.
Monster: A murdered bride who was killed on her wedding day is chasing the victims while they work through someones else’s ssues.
High tension. They have until sunrise to unlock themselves from each other’s personified demons and overcome them before the light of the morning sun shows them for who and what they really are and they are sorted into the afterlife…and damnation. When the demons are sent back to hell the victims will join them if they are still chained to them and haven’t been freed through someone’s work.
Departure from reality: They are all dead. The demons they wound hurt the people they represent.
Moral statement: We are responsible for each other.

Halloween’s Project and Market
LESSON I HORROR
DEVIL’S LIGHT
Writer’s Logline:
After a biological attack devastates New Orleans, a transgender soldier is tasked with rescuing a t.e.r.f. scientist from zombies that can freeze with a touch
I will target producers because a writer that can do their own leg work makes it more appealing for a manager to sign.
Most Attractive:
1) The intense dynamic between the trans soldier and the trans exclusionary radical feminist scientist.
2) zombies that can freeze you with a touch before eating you
3. It is contained and low budget.
What I learned today is that creating a screenplay starts with making something that will attract producers from its’ inception.

Halloweens Right Characters
What I learned doing this assignment is that the original conceit can be expounded upon by character examination.
!. Hook and contained setting.
The original idea blossomed with a reversal of the expected behavior of the twist character into an unexpected motivation and drive.
2. How do the characters fit the hook?
A whip crack smart butler sees everything this wicked family is about.
Marge is an absolute asshole matriarch TERF who drives the emotional themes of abandoning all good for a greater evil.
Fr. Terry is a defrocked priest now being driven back to God on this Halloween night
Tara is the disenfranchised self-absorbed goth college girl who is getting a real eye opener into the true
nature of her filthy rich family.
3. How do the characters enhance the conflict.
The butler backstabs and manipulates everyone into fighting each other and digging away at each others truths by lying and forced manipulation.
Marge pushes her agenda of asshole racism, zero fucks given and bullys everyone into following her commands which builds resentment from everyone around her.
Terry seeks God and prays at every turn which infuriates his sister, mother and the butler and drives the chaotic narrative of this Halloween night.
Tara self absorption drives the help into conflicting orders with her grandmother Marge who is trying to pull of the annual Halloween party.
4. What makes the characters the right ones?
The Butler sees everything so is in a perfect position to manipulate everyone, especially since he is largely ignored as “the help”.
Marge climbed her way to the family’s power structure by being ruthless and she has zero heart for her blood.
Father terry is a soft heart yet conflicted priest who got tired of not satisfying his carnal desires. Hes the perfect tricxkster
Tara is Marge’s hope for the future of the family and she leans into it by learning how to manipulate her grandmother’s perceptions of her.

Halloween’s Great Hook
A. How did this process work for me? – great. I got a chance to explore alternatives to my original idea and discovered my secret for creating compelling hooks.
B. I learned that a hook is simply an ironic adjective.

Guidelines for Halloween’s “GasLight”
What i learned doing this assignment is that story concepts shine, in horror, with intensity which comes from a lack of space.
Part 1: When the police sequester a group of witnesses to an interstate fatality, at a local gas station, they quickly learn that they are being stalked by the sinister force that caused it.
Part 2: The Thing
A:People- 17 characters.
Covid- 4 characters
B;Stunts: a helicopter. Chased by The thing, various pyrotechnics, action sequences in the alien craft.
Covid: replace the adrenaline with movements of tension. lesser than more alternating between who is the Thing and relief at who isn’t. make it more psychological as secrets are ferreted out and risks are exposed.
C: Extras – The Thing’s explosion from the basement. expensive SFX that require fire and practical effects personnel.
Covid: Eliminate the required on set personnel by having an end of movie reveal of the creature. Old school horror shoot.
D:Wardrobe: Cold weather gear.
Covid: relocate the movie from an Antarctica base to an abandoned mall. Clothing as is. No wardrobe personnel needed.
H:Hair and makeup- Cold weather sfx, frost effects etc. SFX of transformations.
Covid: Change the cast from scientists to bank robbers on the run, hiding behind rubber masks.
F:Quarintine- having groups of actors in the same room and close proximity
covid: Have each actor hide in a room while the story progresses, as a measure of safety after the Thing’s reveal. work in social distancing and 6 feet as a way of ensuring they aren’t in contact with a carrier of The Thing.
