    Jake’s Producer/Manager

What I learned today is as a writer I have to make my scripts the very best, in order to approach producers and managers. And, I should understand how to pitch and work with them, because each have different things to consider when making business decisions.

To a producer I will present myself professional; Three strangers decide to help some kids escape from a slave-labor camp in downtown LA. I’d be open to any rewrites and ideas with the goal to get the movie made. The same, I’d take action from a producer’s perspective even though I’m just the writer and would put on a producer hat if that helped the movie get made. I’d be prepared with facts, figures and be ready to conduct other production necessities if I’m asked to, or my input is needed.

To a manager I will present myself professional; Three strangers decide to help some kids escape from a slave-labor camp in downtown LA. The three are reminded their current struggles pale in comparison to the majority of others’, but they’re strong-willed, good-natured people with a common goal. I’d be patient wanting to pitch a manager my other scripts and be excited to hear a career strategy to begin from there. I’d absolutely commit to work on paid writing assignments and approach this relationship being open to other high-concepts and trust their guidance how to present and pitch in meetings. I’ll work and build a long-term and mutually rewarding career.

    1. Unique – People don’t realize how close to home it occurs.

    2. Great title – Title to Change (tbd)

    3. Inspired by a true story

    6. Ultimate, yes

    7. 18-28 yo give or take, and run from there.

    8. Adapted from a popular book – N/A

    9. The Hunger Games (2012) The first of a franchise, its opening weekend grossed over $150M domestically. To date, its earned $690M in just the US.

    Title: Jake’s Project and Market
    Genre: Action Adventure / Thriller
    Title: Escape Social
Concept: Four strangers decide to help kids escape from a child slave-labor camp in downtown LA.

I think the most attractive parts of this story are the physically dramatic struggles and anguish the kids bravely overcome, and the sacrifices given by people trying to rescue them.

I choose to target managers first with this project to show different characters, traits, writing ability in a local and mostly contained setting, with a $1-$5M budget. Dark, but hopeful, 18-28 demographic overcoming the current issue of a child slave-labor camp.

I learned that a pitch, a logline, and a query letter can all somewhat help shape an outline and story.

Hello, everyone. My name’s Jake and I’ve written a couple of scripts for other people, and I have a couple of my own that I’m working on. I hope to gain the skills I need to approach and pitch managers, agents, and producers; but ultimately sign with a manager for the long term. I like the aroma of steaming hot tar. I think this is sort of strange, because whenever/however this came up in conversation with anyone, they just laughed and never agreed. I also enjoy skateboarding, swimming and biking. I eat healthy and I have a cat named Thunder. Best regards to everyone and your path to success. I look forward to learning and working together!

    4. If I have an idea that is the same as or very similar to another group member’s idea, I’ll immediately contact Hal and present proof that I had this idea prior to the beginning of the class. If Hal deems them to be the same idea or close enough to cause harm to either party, he’ll request both parties to present another concept for the class.

    5. If you don’t present proof to Hal that you have the same idea as another person, you agree that all ideas presented to this group are the sole ownership of the person who presented them and you will not write or market another group member’s ideas.

    6. Finally, I agree not to bring suit against anyone in this group for any reason, unless they use a substantial portion of my copyrighted work in a manner that is public and/or that prevents me from marketing my script by shopping it to production companies, agents, managers, actors, networks, studios or any other entertainment industry organizations or people.

This completes the Group Release Form for the class.”
