Tony Finley’s Character Profiles Part 1
What I learned from this assignment is characters are so much more than what we see on the screen, beliefs, motivations internal traits that cannot be scripted. Same is true for other characters especially antagonist, but true for other characters
2. Tony Finley eventually becomes a hero by the end of the story, He is not seen as much in the beginning. He starts out as a selfish person who cares about many superficial aspects of life: Popularity, fame, money. When he is pushed to finish his medical education (that he set aside when he gained social-media fame), he originally does it just to fulfill his mother’s wishes. An experience changes all of that along the way.
3. The main antagonist Dr. Bojan Novak will be an authority figure who gets in the way of Tony’s journey to become a physician. His friction does make him become a change-agent. Seeing Tony for what he appears to be (selfish, etcetera, This Medical School Professor, still angry about Tony pausing his education sees through his motivations and does not think he is serious about being a physician. What starts out as tough, eventually becomes a tough love mentorship that helps Tony see out of his darkest days.
Bojan lost a son in Croatia that wanted to become a physician like his father4. Supporting characters: Social Media Manager, strict rich patriarchal grandfather, and mother in flashbacks, patient who changes Tony’s perspective, ex-girlfriend that he may reconcile with at the end
Minor roles: Other medical students with more screen time, lines, other influencers, absent father
Background characters: Fans, hospital staff and attending physicians.
5. This show would be a drama with some lighter comedy moments
6. Fill in whatever answers come to you about your lead character profiles.
Tony Finley
• Role in the story: He is a person that experience things in his medical school comeback the really helps him see the important things in life.
• Age range and Description: Tony is a prototypical Gen Z guy, tall lean good looking. His looks, money and access to private schools and tutors have made his life easy. Has not faced many challenges until he starts back to his clinical work in medical school
• Internal Journey: Instead of 26 years of being selfish, he learns that there is no better fulfillment than giving to others
• External Journey: He leaves the like and click-driven social media world that drives his attention seeking behavior to eventually working as a physician in a poor underserved part of the country• Motivation: What begins as a “check off the box” goal in finishing medical school, becomes a transformational experience
• Wound: Absent father, mother who dies relatively young, he becomes self-centered to a fault
• Mission/Agenda: Finish medical School then go back to being an influencer, but this gets interrupted.
• Secret: Had a young sibling dies of leukemia
• What makes them special? Really a good person whose poor traits have been rewarded over his life. New experiences and a good role model (Dr. Novak) help to find the real internal Tony6. Fill in whatever answers come to you about your lead character profiles.
Bojan Novak
• Role in the story: Critical mentor and teacher that helps Tony with his journey
• Age range and Description: 60 something physician and professor, immigrated from Croatia during the conflict there after losing son to leukemia and wife to suicide after son’s death
• Internal Journey: loss and depression makes him a difficult teacher, Getting Tony through medical school starts to soften him
• External Journey: From tough, mean SOB of a teacher, to a trusted mentor and father figure
• Motivation: Sees his late son in Tony, wants him to succeed despite himself
• Wound: Family death and loss
• Mission/Agenda: To make excellent physicians, does not think Tony is serious about the career fr0m the beginning
• Secret: Loss of a child
• What makes them special? All Bojan want is for Tony to se the great gift of becoming a physician, that the noble profession is not to be treated as s “check off the box” as Tony seems to think. Knows that being a physician, and being a part of a patients most vulnerable moment is a privilege-
