<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>”What I learned doing this assignment is…?” and put it at the top of your work.
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>It is fun fleshing out your characters and seeing what contradictory attributes you can make them have!
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Colonel Kilher:
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>What draws us to this character? We are impressed by his gumption, effectively using force not for violence but for positive change.
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Traits: Inspiring, visionary, strong, decisive
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Subtext: He doesn’t like mambie-pambie actions or talk
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Flaw: believes in himself and philosophy a little too much, expects others to go along always!
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Values: Loyalty, integrity,
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Irony: He’s a softy for tears (office worker cries, he stops being loud or acting angry), children (being a good father; but was he a good father to his son that died in the Gulf War?)
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>What makes this the right character for this role? Who else will take decisive action against those with low morales and takes advantage of the freedom America gives to people to make a living?!
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Telemarketing Company/Caller/president (maybe Russian immigrant):
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>What draws us to this character? <font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>The company takes advantage of Americans who are gullable because American society has become so soft and easy to live/exist. When others who struggle for income or survival come up against this ease they can only take advantage of it. Because it other parts of society/world if you don’t have good survival skills you won’t last long so there isn’t much sympathy for those who are weak.
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Traits: Ruthess, exploitive, clever, greedy
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Subtext: They are working to raise their children in USA even though they are immoral in how they go about it; they take their home-country survival experience and continue to apply them in USA when they could ease on their harshness.
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Flaw: see subtext statement – they are undermining the very reason they came to America.
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Values: do anything for family, if you aren’t strong you are nothing, work hard to survive,
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Irony: <font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>They don’t connect that exploiting fellow citizens will alienate them from their children.
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>What makes Colonel Kilher the right character for this role? Who else will take decisive action against those with low morals and takes advantage of the freedom America gives to people to make a living?!
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>What makes Telemarketer president the right character for this role? He embodies what we don’t like about immigrants in USA – taking advantage of the ease of life and exploiting our trust.
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>3. Make any improvements you think of to your Part 1 profile and bring the two parts together.
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>Is this a dramady, a serious subject (American’s being exploited) with a preposterous response? Does the exposition of immoral immigrants stir anger or indifference with the audience?
<font face=”Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif”>4. Answer the question “What I learned doing this assignment is…?” and put it at the top of your work.
