Mary Elbert Robbins’s First 3 Decisions

    4. What I learned in this assignment is that I’m not sure I’m clear on what my message of change is, and I’m looking for clarity. I think I found it in this assignment…for now…

    1. What is your profound truth? Regardless of religion or beliefs, love is the one thing worth fighting for.
    2. What is the change your movie will cause with an audience? Change how people are brainwashed by belief systems to fight for something not worthy of their effort.
    3. What is your Entertainment Vehicle that you will tell this story through? Romcom, but sounds intense for a romcom lol!

In ‘Groundhog Day,’ the change revolves around Phil’s transformation as he realizes that with hard work, he can become a man who deserves respect and love. The change agent is the weather, blizzard, as reporting the weather is meant to elevate his fame and diminish his feeling of insignificance in a vast world. Phil Connor is the ideal Transformable Character, embodying a weathercaster narcissist. His transformation is uniquely fitting because it’s driven by the capricious nature of weather, making the journey unpredictable. His oppression stems from his conflicting beliefs: the notion that having it all would validate his worthiness of love and respect. However, in the end, he learns that true love and respect require hard work. Once he achieves this, the need for a grand lifestyle or external validation fades, as he finds self-acceptance and the deserving of good things within himself. We’re drawn into this profound journey because we recognize someone like Phil, and we yearn to witness his transformation. Additionally, we all grapple with feelings of inadequacy and seek the secrets to genuine change.

What is the gradient the change? What steps did the Transformational Character go through as they were changing? 1. He asked for help. 2. He sought out help but didn’t get answers. 3. He discovers he can do anything he wants. 4. He takes advantage of circumstances and people. 5. He acknowledges/memorizes his day. 6. He does whatever he wants. 7. He experiences true respect from the producer but pushes too far – blows it. 8. He becomes angry, depressed, desperate and can’t figure out how to fix it. He tries to kill himself over and over. He started to admire/fall in love with the producer. 9. He acknowledges who he is out loud becoming more sincere. He starts to truly care about another and acknowledges he doesn’t believe in himself. 10. He betters himself. 11. He becomes the hero he never thought he could be.

The “old way” and Phil’s beliefs are upended when the female producer discusses her preferences and standards for a man. He begins to consider what others expect and respect in people. His desire to win her over is fueled by his belief that she’s a genuinely kind person.

The profound moments – The daily repetition offers boundless freedom, including the option to manipulate women into bed, but Phil sinks into a pit of depression, introspection, and desperation. Ultimately, he confronts the necessity of self-improvement and begins the journey of personal growth.

Profound lines of the movie: “Look out for the first step, it’s a doozy” “What if there isn’t a tomorrow? There wasn’t one today.” “You’re a glass half empty kinda guy.” “What if there’s no tomorrow?” “Sometimes you have to take big chances.” “You make choices, and you live with them.” The poem. “You’re egotistical.” “If you only have one day to live, what do you do?” “You’d never love anyone but yourself. That’s not true, I don’t love myself.” “I’m a God.” His expression of sincere love and not lust for the producer. “Let’s stay here.”

The movie’s conclusion delivers a satisfying payoff for its setups. Phil transforms into the hero every character he previously disliked, abused, manipulated, or harmed, and ultimately finds self-love.

Phil’s journey required him to become the person he had once doubted he could ever be: a hero, a good individual deserving of love and respect.

I wrote the answers to the assignment on a Word document, and I can’t cut and paste it here. It’s maybe too lengthy, but I don’t want to retype it. What can I do?
