    Mike Dorn Wiss

I agree to the terms of this release form.

Please just call me “Dorn”; there are far too many Mike’s, Mikey’s, Michael’s, Mickey’s, and Assholes running around for my tastes and I’ve been addressed by each and all of those at one time or another. Insofar as screenwriting is concerned my goals, both short and long term, are unique. I have zero interest in screenwriting as a career, but my interest in this course addresses a relatively long term goal. I use the word relatively since time and its usage have a different connotation to me than they do to most.

I am an octogenarian Canadian/American dual now living in Thailand and hoping – even trusting – I have the time to complete three writing projects before I croak. One is of course a screenplay and is of no more or less importance to me than are the other two. I’m working on all concurrently, according to my mood or to the ease or difficulty of the creation of words that move from my brain through my fingertips and keyboard, pop onto my screen and reenter the exact grey place where they were born. If they talk back to me in an unpleasing manner I work on something else. On fortunately rare days when all three are antagonistic I roll myself a fattie and take my guitar outside where I sit on the porch of my little rented half-bungalow by the sea and listen to the waves sing back to me. I do the same at the end of most of my working days when I assess what I’ve written with frustration or pleasure or anything in between, and I consider what I will do tomorrow. My memory hasn’t been affected by age, thankfully, but it’s not infallible, so I keep a notebook and pen handy for those ideas with a bit of inherent fuzziness that will need clarification before putting them to the page.

I’m looking forward to your thoughts, comments and (hopefully constructive) criticisms throughout this course. You may have decades less experience in many things than do I, but I’m certain I can learn much from the input of both your experience and your opinions. After all, almost everything I learn these days is from those much more youthful than the guy in my mirror. 😉

    Until anon,
    Dorn
