Ramsey Anderson β ASSIGNMENT MY VILLAIN HAS A PLAN
WHAT I LEARNED:
I learned, as long as the villain is moving forward with their plan then we grow concern for the hero, regardless of what the hero is doing.
In my story the hero is driving a semi for a large part of the story. A way to escalate the tension is to show the villain instigating his plan around our hero. Plus adding a 3rd element (FBI) who want to arrest our Hero and also have a plan.
WHAT IS THE VILLAIN’S END GOAL?
The villain’s end goal is to be rich and not be caught by the FBI/ authorities.
The villain is producing live-streamed fight-to-the-death matches in the back of a semi truck
and has enough resources to not be concerned about being busted by local highway patrol.
On the cyber-crime side, the FBI can only get access to the website because of an informant at this early stage in the investigation.
HOW CAN THE VILLAIN ACCOMPLISH THAT IN A DEVIOUS WAY?
The villain is devious because he’s making loads of money by kidnapping men that he hates and having them thrown into the trailer to fight. The villain will kill anyone that gets in his way, including the drivers or his wife.
HOW CAN THE VILLAIN COVER IT UP?
The villain can cover up the crime by not having the fight-to-the death happen at his warehouse.
Plus the villain makes sure that investigators can’t access the files and videos by storing that encrypted information overseas.
SEQUENCE IT TO MAKE IT AS INTRIGUING AS POSSIBLE
1.
Seth produces a fight-to-the-death match in a moving semi trailer. The next day, the driver comes up missing.
2.
Seth hires Drew (Hero) to drive the trailer.
Seth’s wife, Jules, jumps in Drew’s cab rather than the follow vehicle.
Seth’s fine with it because he doesn’t care about her and is only concerned about the trailer.
The follow vehicle has a back up driver in case Seth wants to kill Drew for misbehavior or to help if there’s a problem.
3.
Drew learns about the fights but defends Seth because of greed, until he learns the men are kidnapped.
4.
Seth has Drew thrown in the trailer once he learns Drew helped the FBI.
Seth wants to make a lot of money on the fight and doesn’t think the FBI can access the illegal website.
5.
Seth plans to kill Jules and run off with the money and client info after Drew’s fight.
Seth wants to build up the fighting-to-the-death empire and only needs the client info and money to grow the potentially global operation.

Ramsey’s BI Stacking Suspense
Great job David in breaking it down. I agree 100% Every scene had Nick getting beaten.. even when he wins the head-on car chicken game.. he loses because it’s not who he thought it would be. Call this one a tragedy? Great job in foreshadowing and very obvious with the outline π

Subject line: (Ramsey Anderson) Big M.I.S.
LOGLINE:

What I learned doing this assignment is
It’s great to set this story into the M.I.S. tool.
I feel like I can more clearly see the thriller elements.
I might need to enhance the mystery element.
1. What are the conventions of your story?
Unwitting but Resourceful Hero:
Drew’s a military veteran that drives a semi-truck long distances for different clients in the Mid-West. He’s haunted by a friendly-fire accident, that happened overseas many years ago. His only goal is to pay for the college tuition for the dead soldier’s son that is due.
Dangerous Villain:
Seth is a trucking company owner that live-streams fight-to-the-death matches from moving trailers. He’s a previous MMA fighter that inherited the trucking company and kidnaps enemies and forces them to fight-to-the-death. Along a wall in the trailer are hand-weapons that drop when gamblers pay for them online, via an app.
(A traveling BLOOD SPORT with THUNDERDOME weapons for the entertainment of gamblers)
High stakes:
The deadly trailer that Drew has is being followed by Seth’s armed men and the FBI are tracking it.
If Drew stops he will be killed. If Drew helps the FBI, he will be killed or thrown in jail. All the while, pairs of innocent men die in the trailer.
Life and death situations:
Opening sequence is a fight-to-the-death with some behind-the-scenes in the video studio.
Drew is robbed by a knife, wins the fight, but then is held up by gun point.
Drew has the saved money / tuition stolen from his truck and reluctantly takes a shift from Seth.
Armed men follow the trailer and Seth’s wife, Jules, jumps in the cab (In an effort to escape Seth).
Drew learns from Jules about the fights in the trailer and that the FBI are tracking the trailer.
Drew meets a fighter at a warehouse where he learns the fighters are kidnapped.
Drew is unable to ignore the brutality as it triggers his wound and he tries to help the FBI.
Seth finds out about Drew and has him fight-to-the-death in the trailer against a prize fighter.
Drew manages to choke the fighter unconscious. Once back at the warehouse, during an FBI raid Drew chases after Seth in a semi vs semi then fist-a-cuffs battle where Jules almost dies.
2. Tell us the Big M.I.S. of your story?
Big Mystery: What’s the mystery that will keep us wondering throughout the story?
Can Drew ignore the brutality & if he risks his life, is it enough?
Big Intrigue: What is the covert plot that will live under the surface for most of the movie?
Seth counts on betrayal to legitimize throwing the men in the trailer to fight. He sees himself as a proprietor feeding the market. All the men that have died ‘deserved it’. (SEVEN)
Big Suspense: What is the danger to your Hero that will escalate throughout the script?
Drew finds himself closer and closer to the trailer and once he steps in it.. he will have to fight to get out.

Secret Window (2004) Thriller Conventions
is on Amazon Prime.
What I learned doing this assignment is the characters have to stand off the page with internal/external tension.
At the beginning, MORT RAINEY learns that he might have stolen his published story from a writer named JOHN SHOOTER. Tucked away at a remote cabin, Rainey processes the possibility, while being haunted by his past failed marriage, during an internal struggle for sanity.
Originally written as two short stories by Stephen King, the film does a great job of sending the audience in weird directions as Rainey pushes his way to the resolution.
The Unwitting but Resourceful Hero is Mort Rainey. Mort has a mental break, something like in the movie The Shining, if Jack got away with it.
The Dangerous Villain is Shooter, later revealed as Mort, who is determined to get even for the divorce.
The High stakes of death are played out by Shooter’s threats, killing of his dog and others, which turn out to be Mort.
The Life and death situations start as verbal then the death of his dog ramp things up. Things continue to ramp up, testing Rainey’s mental stability until it’s revealed that Shooter is Rainey.
This movie is thrilling because of the isolation of the environment, pacing of the movie and increased violence and twist.
The Big Mystery is what the hell is going on?
The Big Intrigue is what the hell is going on?
The Big Suspense is what the hell is going on? LOL
NOTE: Yesterday, I did this for BLOOD SPORT then when writing it up realized it wasn’t a thriller only to do this one to find out the hero / villain are the same person ;-/

Hey creative folks!! I’m Ramsey Anderson and I have completed five features and something unique about me is that I created / produced a game show for night club DJs for many years at electronic music festivals. ThinkYouCanDJ.com I love writing and also production and post-production.
My goal with the class is to complete the re-write of one of the features that I recently completed. I’m toying with the idea of starting a new feature also but just depends on the level of support of the program; to be honest.
Excited to meet you all~

Hear ya! One of my best friends is a long-haul trucker and I do live-streaming/ IT for a living.. Happy to share the script when it’s done. Thnx David for the curiosity.. #TakesA_Village LOL
-
The interesting thing about the movie.. is that it could have been Beth and Catherine, when we see her at the end, could have just wanted to try it but she hesitated because she’s not actually a murderer. However, that seems to go against all the obvious threats Catherine exhibits through the movie.. Haha

Thnx for asking David. The advantage of being remote is it gives the bad guys a better way of hiding the enterprise. Does that answer it? Can explain more or happy to chat it out π
