This is only growing and getting better. I am so happy to have a vast wealth of layers, mysterious an dilemmas to put my characters through.

    R. REID Jr’s Teaser / High Speed Writing <div>

    <div>

What I learned doing this assignment is how even though my teaser was on a different scene that I had 9 pages in me to introduce the characters, his conflicts and the worlds that will pull him in different directions in the future and even his flaws and weaknesses are laid out before us.

This was a great exercise and we are more ready then we think.

    R. Reid Jr’s Outline With Intrigue Mod 3 Less.7

What I learned doing this assignment is to set this up to have the whole story told where it is not able to be put down.

    ASSIGNMENT

    Complete your outline.

    1. With each scene, determine the MAIN INTRIGUE that you will emphasize in that scene.

Intriguing World: Deception and New worlds of learning
Mystery: Who is the Woman who know Bruce who lost his ID
Secret: Who the main character really is.
Deception: Bruce trying to pose an insurance agent to the bank and agents and returning student to Snowy and group.
Conspiracy: Bruce is really behind THE TECH
    Secret Identity: THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN
    Wound: THE FEMALE AGENT’S PAST
Hidden Agenda: the lead agent willing to sell out the other.
Hidden Layer: Bruce doesn’t want the investigation to work.
    Strange Behavior: Of the lead
Imminent Threat: Being found out by the Agents and or by Snowy as some kind of spy.
Suspicion: Who is the Mysterious woman and should be trusted?

    2. Put the main intrigue of your scene in the Slugline.

The hidden agendas of Bruce are about to be brought to question when his 3 worlds are about to collide.

Then give us the open loops, mystery, empathy/distress, payoff, irony, and setups that will show up in this scene.

    INT. CAMPUS– DAY:

MAIN INTRIGUE If Bruce is scene he will be found out by Snowy and the Agents in some way.

Description: Agents enter the campus from the distance they are handing out a paper asking students if they have seen someone on the paper.

Mystery: Who is the Mysterious woman.

Empathy/Distress: Bruce starts to remember who he is in bits and pieces.

Payoff: Bruce helps Snowy feel alive again.

Irony: Helping Snowy regain herself means keeping her in the dark.

    R. Reid Jr’s Scene Requirements

What I learned from this requirement is that as I put these scene together it is really solidifying a story and my drive to make this a good series, one that people want to come back to again and again.

    LESSON 11: Scene Requirements

    Description:

    Start: On the campus
Challenging Situation: Helping the Agents on campus.
Conflict: Being pulled in 3 directions-no right way to go.
    Action: Agents hunting mysterious person.
Finish: Bruce must decide who to trust and what direction he will go.

    SCENE REQUIREMENT QUESTIONS

Here is the list of questions that you can use to improve any scene.

    A. Scene Arc: Where does this scene START and FINISH that will be an interesting change?
Bruce going from the hunter to hunted and not knowing it.
    B. Challenging Situation: What situation/circumstances could challenge these characters goals, needs, values, wounds, or physically?
Bruce in a vulnerable situation taking classes to understand Earth/Sigma 2619 culture and ended up seated to Snowy the girl he lost in the bar
    C. Conflict: What is the conflict of this scene?
Bruce deals with telling Snowy the night he met her and her knuckles were all bloody. But she doesn’t remember him then.
    D. Action: What actions could deliver the meaning of the scene or be engaging to watch?
The Agents showing up looking for someone who matches Snowy and the Mysterious woman finds Bruce on Campus and pulls him to the side and asks if he remembers her. He says at the bar, but she says before that!!

    CREATING CHALLENGING SITUATIONS

CHALLENGE THEIR GOAL: The objective of the journey. Win the contest, defeat the opponent, etc.
Bruce on the campus talking to the Mysterious woman and not knowing if she is friend or foe.
CHALLENGE THEIR NEED: Their internal drive. Needs like love, self-esteem, security, power, achievement, etc.
Bruce and Snowy or Bruce and the Female agent. If he gets close or opens up it will be his first Earth/Sigma 2619 love.
CHALLENGE THEIR VALUES: What the character believes is important for quality of life: Happiness, loyalty, community, excellence, hard work, money, etc..
Being loyal to the Agents get compromised when he is overhearing the lead agent saying how he would sell his partner out or anyone who got in the way of the investigation including Bruce.
CHALLENGE THEIR WOUND: A deep emotional injury that ruptured a part of the character’s life.
Bruce with a lost memory could be stepping on a landmine if he chooses the wrong person of the three to ally with.
CHALLENGE THEM PHYSICALLY: Anything in the outer world that impedes the character from reaching their goal.
Bruce being pulled aside by the Mysterious woman. Is she a friend or foe?

    Description:

    Start: On the campus

Challenging Situation: Helping the Agents on campus.

Conflict: Being pulled in 3 directions-no right way to go.

    Action: Agents hunting mysterious person.

Finish: Bruce must decide who to trust and what direction he will go.

    Pass 2 Turn into description.

    EXT. CAMPUS DAY

Agents enter the campus from the distance they are handing out a paper asking students if they have seen someone on the paper.

Bruce is debating to go toward them and he notices his phone with missed messages from the Agents.

As he is about to answer his phone a hand gently comes over his hand. It is the Mysterious woman who says she needs to speak to him.

    R. Reid Jr’s Beat Sheet

What I learned doing this assignment is I am always reflecting on this story from many angles and redoing a new approach or new way to help tell this story. It is amazing!

    ASSIGNMENT

Tell us your Show Concept-A Man who has lost his memory is sent to Earth/Sigma 2619 to retrieve an item called THE TECH. Only in the transport his memory has become foggy. He doesn’t know who or what to trust.
Inciting Incident. A sophisticated group of robbers have pulled off an amazing heist only when caught they have only stolen stationary items of the bank and have no memory of who they are, who they robbed with or any memory of the heist itself.<div>

    2. List your A, B, and C Stories.

A Story: Bruce poses as an Insurance Agent to get access to the clue of mysterious technology that was used to alter the memory of a group of strangers.

    B. Story. Bruce without a memory tries to learn about Earth culture by enrolling in a course at a local college. He runs into the same girl who might have had the mind control device on in his study group.

    C. Story: Bruce works with the agency to ensure they are in the dark and that they don’t find THE TECH he is looking for or the Mysterious woman he is looking for if she has the answers.

    3. Present your current Beat Sheet with no dialogue.

    R. Reid Jr’s Setting Up The Future Episodes

What I learned doing this assignment is there are many ways to lay out the story and this slower way than just writing is going to make my story stronger and deeper.

    ASSIGNMENT:

    (1. Go to your TV Pitch Bible: Look at the future episodes, five seasons, and character descriptions. Go to your BW Framework: Look at all the info there.

    2. Make a list of events/character reveals/under-the-surface info that COULD be set up in the pilot. Just use the obvious ones. You don’t need to create the entire season right now.)

In my pilot, FISH OUT OF WATER

AGENTS ARRIVE ON THE SCENE-BRUCE PLAYS THE PART OF INSURANCE AGENT

BELOW THE SURFACE BRUCE WENT TO THE BANK REPRESENTING THE FAMILIES WHO OWNED BOXES

BELOW THAT SURFACE BRUCE FOUND THE FAMILIES WHO OWNED BOXES IN THE BANK

BELOW THAT BRUCE GOT TO ONE OF THE EMPLOYEES TO GET THAT LIST (AT BAR WITH EMPLOYEE TO GET INFO)

BRUCE ENROLLS AT A LOCAL COLLEGE

BELOW THAT BRUCE GETS ADVICE TO ENROLL AT SCHOOL FROM AN OLD MAN WHO MISTAKES HIM FOR A NEW IMMIGRANT AND NOT AN ALIEN.

ABOVE THAT BRUCE HAS DEJA VU AS HE TAKES A SEAT NEXT TO A GIRL HE MET BEFORE.

BELOW THAT BRUCE WAS TRACING THE TECH AND STUCK UP A SHORT CONVERSATION WITH SNOWY ONLY SHE SEEMS TO BE A DIFFERENT PERSON WHO CLEARLY DOESN’T REMEMBER HIM.

EPISODE 2 HERE COMES THE AGENTS, WATCH OUT!

BRUCE HAS POSED AS AN INSURANCE AGENT FOR THE BANK. AND HE STARTS WORKING WITH TWO AGENTS OF A SPECIAL BRANCH THAT NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT.

    3. Decide which you are going to include in the pilot.

Here are a few ways you can do that:

EVENT-bank robbers not knowing who they are once away from the bank – Open Loop about details of the event. – Intrigue us about it. Who trained them and why? – Go opposite it to create cover up. Someone recruited these people – Create a mystery around it. The mystery woman who Bruce spoke to comes in his dream– Present clues the audience might follow. –

Mystery woman presents herself as a past friend who Bruce can’t remember because he can’t remember anyone. Cliffhanger points to a more daunting reality. – Cause us to worry about the event or character involved. Bruce has a three way choice: trust the Mystery lady, work with Snowy and tell her the truth of what happened to her and or help the agents fully and help them get the Mystery woman.

Then it is all about selection and layering your choices of setups into the pilot.

    4. Fill into the Outline.

Bruce slips himself into work the investigation that leads to an incident where a college school students erased the memory of a man suspected of human trafficking.

And only tracing back Bruce’s first attempt to find the Mystery people behind the use of a TECH Bruce is trying to find that leads him to an awkward conversation into a crowded bar where Bruce was tracing THE TECH. The awkward conversation was with a college student who seemed a bit disoriented and a slightly older woman who rushes her out of the bar after she claimed she had too much to drink.

Bruce sees the same girl after sitting in on a classes at college he is taking to catch up on earth customs in a sociology class. She starts talking to him and doesn’t realize they met before.

Bruce follows some dead-end leads before over hearing the male lead agent he would sell out whoever he could to close this case.

Meanwhile, Snowy and a group of classmates are in the local bar working on a group project. After a few hours they take a break and stretch their leges, while Bruce is at the table the same woman who took Snowy out of the bar and she claims to know Bruce and his past. As the group is returning she gets up and leaves and disappears into the crowded bar.

    R. Reid Jr. ’s building in empathy and distress

What have I learned from this assignment is to never

count out a way to put my characters through more than I have shown already and after that I can put them through more. And putting them through a rough spot I found a link story link.

    ASSIGNMENT:

    1. Look through your outline and see if any of these as a bigger frame for your story, or if you already have it in the story, can you emphasize or expand it:

    A. Crucible The main character having to fit in at school on earth as an alien hiding as a human.
    B. Betrayal Betrayal by the Agent who would sell him out to get a head.
    C. Forced Decision-picking the Agents to work with.
    D. Hurt those they love- Being hurt by the Mystery woman who says they know each other.
    E. Emotional Dilemma-Helping Snowy might blow his control over her by bringing her awareness back.
    F. Exposed As a person who lied and cheated their way into a case and trust of the agents.
    G. Must Make Decision with Future Consequences- Trusting the agents but that might help them know or even get the Tech in the future.

    2. Looking at your scenes, are there places you can create situations to cause more Empathy/Distress?

Step 1: Check each scene to see if you can build any of these forms of Empathy/Distress into them.

Undeserved misfortune-Snowy losing her short term memory in bar and in the park.
External character conflicts- The female agent dealing with her loss on the job. Makes her better or just a bad ass.
Plot intruding on lifeBruce starts to get flashbacks in front of the Agents as they come close to the bank. Flashbacks of something being implanted into his head/someone’s else’s head and him nodding in agreement.
Plans that failed-failure to catch the Mysterious woman.
Witnessing the pain of others Bruce interacting with Snowy and Snowy not knowing she was used as a weapon.
Extreme consequences –Bruce helping the Agents will result in someone’s death.
Major loss- Bruce is failing in his class.
Brings their wound present-Bruce’s memory loss makes him doubt his mission if it is even real.

Step 2: Make those situations even worse.

Make it more painful Agents are closing in on discovering Snowy.
Raise the stakes Bruce pitting the Agents against each other by getting closer to the female agents.
Create more loss Bruce discovers the loss of the female agent.
Put any goal, need, value, wound at significant risk Bruce being found out as the Agents show up at the school.
Time this to be at the worst moment Just as the Agents show up at the school Bruce spots the mysterious woman. It comes to save Snowy or go after the Mysterious woman.
Make it more physically threatening The Mysterious woman threatens Bruce to trust her or feel her wrath.

    R. Reid’s Open Loops and Mysteries mod 3:7

What I learned about this assignment is that it is never too late to keep going deeper in the story and the main mystery, main loop and their sub parts really help to create this story and give it more life.

Main Mystery: Who is Mystery woman behind THE TECH? <div>

    Sub-Mysteries:

    Who is Bruce?

How did he lose his memory?
Is he part of THE TECH?

What is his relationship with the Mystery woman?

Will the Agent who Bruce overheard really use anyone to get ahead?

And then what does mean to Bruce and his mission to retrieve the TECH?

Main Open Loop: Will the Agents catch onto who Bruce is?

    Sub-Open Loops:

Can Bruce find the tech before the Agents do?

Will Bruce be killed by those who sent him?

Will the Mystery woman create more havoc before being caught?

Will Bruce connect to Snowy in class or will be reveal himself?

Will the Mystery woman attack another person or group of people before she is caught or the TECH retrieved?

    R. Reid Jr’s STACKING INTRIGUE MOD 3 LESSON 6

“What I learned doing this assignment is there is always another way to keep going back to BW framework for more and more ideas. Or to test if what we are doing is making sense in the story.

    1. Make a list of your turning points.

Act 1 THE ROBBERY AT THE BANK<div>

Act 2 POSING AS AN INSURANCE AGENT TO THE BANK

Act 3 WORKING WITH TWO SPECIAL AGENTS AS AN INSURANCE AGENT REPRESENTING THE BANK.

Act 4 MEETING SNOWY IN THE BAR BUT NOT KNOWING WHO SHE IS.

Act 5 MEETING SNOWY AGAIN IN CLASS AND SHE DOESN’T KNOW WHO HE IS AND ACCEPTING HIM HER STUDY GROUP.

Intriguing World: PEOPLE BEING MADE TO DO THINGS AND NOT HAVING ANY MEMORY OF IT.

Intrigue: HUNTING DOWN THE TECH. BEING LED TO NEW PEOPLE.

Mystery: WHO IS CONTROLLING THIS TECH?
    Secret: WHO IS CONTROLLING SNOWY.
Deception: BRUCE AS AN INSURANCE AGENTS FOR BOX HOLDERS.

Conspiracy: SAME TECH THAT CONTROLLED SNOWY IS THE SAME TECH THAT PULLED OFF THAT HEIST AT THE BANK.

Secret Identity: BRUCE AS AN INSURANCE AGENT.

Wound: SNOWY NOT KNOWING WHO SHE IS OR WHO BRUCE IS.

Hidden Agenda: BRUCE OVER THE AGENTS TO GET TO THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN (HE ASSUMES IT IS THE WOMAN WHO WAS HUSTLING SNOWY OUT OF THE BAR).

Hidden Layer: ONE OF THE AGENTS LIKES BRUCE AS THEY WORK TOGETHER IT IS HIDDEN.

Strange Behavior: SNOWY AT THE BAR, SNOWY RUNNING FROM THE AGENTS.

Accusation: THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN IS BEHIND IT ALL.

Act 1 Turning Point: SNOWY’S FIGHT AT THE BAR AND IN FRONT OF THE AGENTS AND BRUCE MEETING HER AGAIN IN THE CLASS. IT IS AT THIS POINT BRUCE SEES SHE MIGHT BE A KEY TO THIS WHOLE THING.

INTRIGUE 1: MYSTERY: The bank is being robbed and the people doing are very sophisticated and even seem well trained by someone.

INTRIGUE 2: ACCUSATION: The agents and police arrest everyone involved with the robbery only they didn’t steal anything. They just moved things around and only stole stationery that is made to look like money.

SECRET: Once caught it is evident that no one knows each other nor do they have any idea why they were at the bank.

INTRIGUE 3: The special ‘agents’ were tipped off by the bank.

SECRET: Using his own tech that identifies when a special TECH is being used. Like plane fumes he finds the bank and sees what is going down. But he is not authorized to do anything but only watch.

INTRIGUE 4 The next day Bruce issues himself a special private insurance ID to investigate what happened.

SECRET: Bruce found owners of the deposit boxes and asks 3 estates to protect their interests after news appears on the TV.

STRANGE BEHAVIOR: A few days before Bruce was tracking this TECH to a bar but is too late cause the TECH has done it’s damage on someone unknown in the bar.

MYSTERY: Bumping into a girl in the bar who is a bit under the weather is escorted by her friend to go home and recover. But later speaking to the bouncer he finds out the very girl he spoke to briefly was involved with laying out a few guys in the bar.

INTRIGUE 5/HIDDEN LAYER: Bruce poses as an insurance investigator to the bank to keep everything “hush” “hush” and later poses to the special agents investigating to be working also for a special insurance.

ACT Turning POINT. Snowy the girl in the bar is the first victim of the TECH as she is dispatched to scramble someone’s brains (who as it turns out was involved in human trafficking). She ends up ditching the TECH and running until she is corner and takes a stand to fight. But then suddenly is turned off and has a complete blank memory of anything.

Mystery: Bruce shows up to classes to get a better lay of the land with locals, turns out Snowy sitting next to him (and he introduces himself again) she has no idea who he is, except he is a graduated student returning to brush up on some extra credits. She has no recollection of their conversations in the bar or of scrambling a man’s brains in the park or of laying out four guys in the bar.

    R. Reid Jr’s LAYERS AND REVEALS MOD 3: ASSIGNMENT 5

What I learned doing this assignment is when this is applied to each act, it will shine even before it is written. I also discover some ‘hidden’ gems in my story and ‘connections’ I didn’t consider in the story I didn’t see before that bring connect my ‘characters’ stories even more.

Surface: Bruce poses as insurance adjuster to investigate for the bank.

Layer beneath: Bruce isn’t here for the bank but for another

    criminal organization.

How Revealed: Mystery woman tells something from his past.

Surface: The lead agent makes it look like there is a partnership.

Layer beneath: Lead agent is out for himself.

How Revealed: Bruce overhears it on a phone call to sell out who ever gets in his way of a promotion

Surface: Bruce poses as a immigrant at college

Layer beneath: Bruce is an alien and needs to connect to humans and understand what makes them tick.

How Revealed: The female agent will be dropping off her niece and sees Bruce going into a class. Curious she follows him and sees he is in the same class as the suspect earlier on.

Surface: Mysterious Woman behind the attacks

Layer beneath: She says she knows Bruce and they were working together to hid the tech before he lost his memory.

How Revealed: Before working on a term paper the other students taking a break and offer Bruce a hit of ganja. Bruce has a hallucination that the mysterious woman told him they knew each other.

**Notice that each of those reveals were done in a dramatic way.

Here are some places to look.

Intriguing or dangerous parts of the sub-world-The TECH used on other people to make them susceptible to committing crimes, acquiring skills and then completely forgetting about it.
Major conflict of the show-Bruce trying to know who to open up to or to trust or who to align with.

Unique purpose/expertise of a lead character- The Mysterious woman approaching Bruce after he took a hit to tell him he sent her.

Conspiracy-The Mysterious woman and the Bruce were lovers and or best friends. Bruce planted THE TECH on Earth himself.

Secrets-Bruce is not an immigrant but an alien.

Deception-Pretending to work with the Agents, one of which would sell him out in a second.
    Wound-The female agent’s past.

Character history- Bruce’s life is unknown accept his homeward will be killed if he doesn’t complete his task.

Character secret identity- Bruce posing as an insurance agent.

Hidden agenda-Bruce’s, the lead agent and the Mysterious woman.

Dilemma- Does Bruce go on trusting the agents or just work with them.

Hidden relationship history Bruce and the Mysterious woman.

A deeper mystery- What will happen if the Agents find out about THE TECH or the Mysterious woman?

Real reasons behind actions-Bruce’s connection to THE TECH.

Who else involved-The Mysterious woman and Snowy.

How it happened- According to the Mysterious woman, Bruce sent her to Earth to hid THE TECH.

What is really happening-Bruce in finding his answer might have fallen for Snowy. But the female agent is also falling for Bruce as well. Or at least knows secret and posing to be a student to get to know Snowy.

Why people are behaving this way-Bruce behaving as student or Agent behaving like she doesn’t know.

    R. Reid Jr.’s character Story lines

    *Bruce

Bruce is being forced to take a trip to get something for his boss far away that was stolen. His wrist is already in digital cuffs and he is told if he doesn’t retrieve the items his ‘home world’ will be killed. He goes unconscious from a smack or two.
Bruce wakes up and adjusts his wrists. Was it a dream? He fixs his collar and goes into the president of the bank and tells him he representing 3 of his clients with safety deposit boxes. He is waved away until he says one of the names. Minutes later he is representing the bank to find out what happened.
Turns out the Agents are looking into the bank robbers who lost their memories suddenly after being caught. Bruce as an insurance adjuster can do that.
Bruce has a device that helps him trace a purple mist that leads him to a bar where he talks briefly to Snowy who is the latest victim like the bank robbers. She leaves the bar with a friend who says she had a bad night.
Bruce cannot connect with people, so he enrolls in a course and in his class is the same girl who spoke briefly at in the bar only she has no clue of being there.
Bruce blends into the Agents’ investigation and sees a face on a active case to find out Snowy was a victim the day after he saw her. And after attacking a man in the park she couldn’t recall what or who she was. And was let go.
Bruce turns around in the same crowded bar with Snowy and the their study group a quiet visitor sits in Snowy’s seat for a few minutes while everyone is in the washroom or getting drinks. She ask Bruce if he knows her. Bruce thinks it’s a joke but says no, thank you and that he is not looking. She gets up. And after everyone sits down Bruce gets a flash gets up and realizes that he does know her from somewhere. He looks around the bar quickly and outside but she is gone. The Bar back give Bruce a note from the girl.
Bruce checks in with the Agents and overhears and outside call from the male lead of the investigation. And he says he will do whatever it takes to find the person behind this and will sacrifice a partner like he did last time to get that promotion.
Bruce decides to work through or with Snowy only he hasn’t told her who he is.

    Snowy

Snowy is picked out by a woman who emits a purple mist over Snowy and is given a suggestion that she knows Fung Fu. She believes it and lays out two guys who were approaching her too forcefully in a bar.
Snowy follows the woman and next we see her waking up in her own place, kind of like she is hung over.
Snowy goes to the park hooded up and approaches a guy in the park. The mysterious woman is talking into a box in her wrist and Snowy is hearing it.
Snowy attacks the man with a device in her bag and he man goes limp. Someone in the park gets on their phone and reports it, the Agents hear of this attack and check it out before the police can get there.
Meanwhile, Snowy has dropped off the device in the trash and the mysterious woman picks it up and goes off.
Snowy is walking away when the Agents spot her. She dashes and the female agent gives chases first and after Snowy is cornered she starts to fight back until she goes limp for a second. And kind of wakes up not knowing anything that happens.
The Agents get her to take a test and there is nothing in her system that is chemical.
Snowy is let go and she goes to classes. She is in class and the prof asks everyone to form a group of 5 for their lab. Bruce turns to see Snowy is in his class next to him, but she doesn’t recall seeing him. They join three others for their group.

Beginning: Snowy goes into bar after fight with boy.
Turning Point: Woman listens to story but induces her with purple mist. Woman takes Snowy out of bar.

Essence: Turning Point: <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Turning around the insurance agents sees the girl from the bar. She got out of it and the agent was asking her to do something shady that ended up with him arrested and her with some bruising on her face. The other agent in present day is talking to a boss on the phone and says, he doesn’t care who he has to go through that includes coworkers to make the arrests. The boss agrees with him to do whatever it takes and step over whoever her has to to get that arrest and further his career in their bureau.

Essence: Lock In: Bruce, the main character is on his way home and an old man stops him and asks him if he has made a decision. Bruce remembers back as he is going to group time with the group and sees Snowy’s smile as she flicks a paper at him vs. seeing the arrest style of the two agents and coffees with The Agents, essentially the female agent Rebecca who is he is comparing memories with. Bruce seems to make the decision to work more with the girl in the class than the female agent, thought in another flashback she is slowly respecting him for his work ethic and he doesn’t notice her checking him out. Even the other agent points it out while she is in the bathroom and he brush it off and says he is only professional. While at school with the other older students he is more himself. The old man says, it sounds like the decision is made. Yeah, for now, Bruce responds. The old man says, who is your memory? Bruce, still foggy. It is like I can’t remember anything except this job. The old man continues, do you really think this girl is going to help you find what you boss asked you to find? Better than working with an agency that only wants to get ahead (he pictures the guy agent talking to his boss) or bust some heads (he thinks of Rebecca who is tough as nails). I did meet this one woman Bruce remembers, he recollects at the put when Snowy, the girl from class went to the bathroom a mysterious woman sits briefly in Snow’s seat. Bruce is a little shocked and says, do we know each other? The mysterious woman, I thought you would remember me. Bruce, would I from…? The mysterious woman looks up and sees Snowy coming back. If you remember come and find me. She passes Snowy who looks at her like she knows her. She sits down. Who was that, the rest of the group comes back ready to tackle a bit more work. Suddenly Bruce does get a flash back. Are you okay? Bruce does remember this lady and they are talking about something technical and she brushes his arm as he asks her to pay attention. Bruce notices she left a handkerchief and says, wait a minute and gets up and picks it up to return it and goes to the door as he looks around and she is not outside or walking.

Bruce in present time is talking to the old man again and says, I think I have made my choice. And while he is talking he walks back to the group and puts the handkerchief on his head and says what and all four of them laugh and he sits. Bruce, now where were we?….

Two guys make a rude comment and the woman says the girl, you know kung fu and the guys come over to the young lady in a funny way and she flattens them out cold. Moments later the insurance guy is slowly walking to Robin’s Nest Pub where the 2 ladies are using a 3-D image from his bracelet, he wipes it and says lost signal. R. Reid Jr.’s Amazing Inciting Incident

    (Mod 3 homework 2)

What I learned from this assignment is not everything will be written from a-z, sometimes we have to start at the MIDPOINT and work ourselves backward to this main THRUST of this pilot.

    1. What is the “Inciting Incident” of your series that this pilot needs to deliver powerfully?

The people who rob a bank are caught and it looks like an open and shut case only the people that robbed the bank don’t know how or why they did anything they are caught for and the police can’t link them for the crime since they left behind all the money and valuables and stole bank pens and name plates from the bank.

    2. Give us the main beats of that Inciting Incident:

A sophisticated bank heists by a sophisticated group of people who look like they are living a high lifestyle. They spend more then they afford and use a bank robbery to cover up the money they need, only they discover someone has been controlling them.

    Intriguing Concept:

Can strangers be controlled to do crimes and not have knowledge of it? Who would control people to do such things?

    Act 1:

Robbers living a high lifestyle that is the best of the best throwing money left, right and center: the best clothes, the best restaurants and even luxury car rentals. When money starts running out one person has an idea of robbing a bank.

Midpoint: after the robbery the gang looks like they are going to get away with it until more sophisticated agents of a special branch bust them with their loot all locked up in special bags and have the footage to prove it.

Lock In: It is not until the robbers are handcuffed and the bags are confiscated and the sophisticated bunch are brought away they receive a call from the bank the lead investigator thinks it is the bank wanting to thank them. Then their man on the ground calls the person cell of the lead investigator. He asks them to stop and check the bags. The bags stolen are full of stationary and newspapers. There is no cash from the bank, no precious metals were taken or bank notes. It was an empty robbery. When questioned, the chief robber answers, who are you and why am I here? The robbers all answer the same, they are completely out of sorts, like they had a mental breakdown than being in any robbery.

    Summaries of Shows Seasons:

<b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Summary: SEASON ONE Bruce an alien is sent to earth called SIGMA 2619 to find a technology that ravaged his planet and now arrived on Earth. Bruce upon entering earth is following the emissions from THE TECH that has been used to alter stranger’s minds that rob a bank. Bruce finds himself lost on earth and is given advice by an elderly men to blend into culture to get what he wants. Bruce enrolls in a school while posing as an insurance adjuster for a private company to investigate the robbery. Bruce’s journey parallels that of a new immigrant only instead of the American dream he is hunting deadly Alien technology while battling a lost memory that comes in bits and pieces rendering it hard to know who to trust from he is forced to work with, those he is trying to save ( the first victim of THE TECH, the agents he is working with (one who wants to kill anyone in the path of their promotion and the other a possible bad-ass woman whom’s path you stay out of or you end of up being loved by).

In season one he runs across the first victim who helps him piece together how THE TECH affects a person. And near the end of season one Bruce’s AI spots a woman who the Agents call, the mysterious woman who has been spotted near the “incidents” where people have lost their memory and even robbed a bank with other strangers who lost their memory. Bruce as he gets closer to finding out who the Mysterious Woman is has his life almost lost and it is the Mysterious woman who saves him as she tells him they they know each other and she can help him fill in the gaps of his memory.

Summary: SEASON 2 Bruce is getting his earth knowledge by trial-and-error, who to trust: possibly the agents but it comes with a price: exposure of his TECH or who he maybe or at least whom he is working for. The earth advisor, aka the blind old man guides Bruce to take some extra courses at a community college a few nights a week. In the class he meets Snowy who he met in the first season. Going back to school, even for an advanced alien proves its difficulties as Bruce feels drained he is introduced to everything from energy bars, smart classmates, coffee pills (after coffee) and even marijuana ( which has a hilarious effect on Bruce). During the day time Bruce is dealing with the Mysterious woman who is only leaving slight clues about her moves or none at all. And the agents go from clueless to hostile toward anyone working with them and making them look like fools. Bruce at the end of the season finds the lead agent is almost willing to risk the lives of those around him and maybe even his partner to catch the Mysterious woman as the season ends.

Summary: SEASON 3 Bruce opens the season with deciding not to help the agent catch the Mysterious woman at the risk of the female agent. The female agent instead of turning on her fellow agent secretly starts to like Bruce, even though she is not sure his actual identity. They strike up a conversation at a coffee shop and meet there almost every 2nd day as they start their days. It is lite conversation. She does notice Bruce is studying for a class and offers to help him indirectly. Meanwhile, Snowy and Bruce get closer until Snowy sees Bruce talking to the female agent and it look flirtatious to her. So Bruce is involved in what can be described as a love triangle, only Bruce never had one before. At the end of the season it seems the old man might not be so naive as he seems. And Bruce may have to show his TECH in trying to save Snowy who suddenly gets in some danger.

Summary: SEASON 4 Snowy is saved and Bruce is able to do it with the help of the Agent and both of them don’t realize it. But a big surprise happens and it is the form of a 2nd collector. This one is like Bruce but he has all his memory in-tact. He also seems to be more familiar with Sigma 2619/Earth than Bruce was when he arrives. And at the same time the other agent who seems very uncooperative with getting outside help. Namely Bruce’s help directly or indirectly turns out to be a bit of difficult person so much Bruce might have to use his TECH to put him down. And to end the season with the Mysterious woman who comes to Bruce and proposes to finish off the collector and or the agent and show Bruce who he really is as he gets more and more of pieces of his memory.

Summary: SEASON 5 Bruce doesn’t take the offer of the Mysterious wholly to finish off the 2nd collector cause that will bring the Empire’s people in full force upon Sigma 2619. Bruce is seeing almost no choice but to work with the Mysterious woman as she offers to tell Bruce who he really was before he lost his memory and asked for this assignment to show the Empire he is worthy. Meanwhile, the agents might have made a big breakthrough just as the female agent is on the verge of quitting the “agency” and telling Bruce how she really feels Snowy surprises Bruce at the coffee shop and is already sitting with Bruce for a last-minute cram session before his test. Bruce finds out who the old man is who has been helping him. He is an ex agent who was sent over 50 years ago but decided to retire on Earth then go back and even raised a family. The final blow to this final season is when the Mysterious woman says it is a waste for Bruce to get his memory back fully because the people that sent him are really his enemy and he in fact is responsible for the TECH be stolen and sent to earth to keep it ‘out of the hands’ of bad people.

    R. Reid Jr Presents Non-Stop Intrigue Pilot: SIGMA 2619

What I learned from this assignment is it is never too late to shape and reform my TV Bible pitch documents.

Pull out your TV Pitch Bible. Read through it and highlight any paragraphs that need more interest or that you would like to be even more intriguing.

    MAIN POINTS:

A paragraph from your summary, character descriptions, episodes, or seasons might include any of these:

Setup: Intrigue format, mystery, or character intrigue.

    • A. An Alien named Bruce, who is a fish out of water is sent to retrieve some stolen TECH that alters minds in 60 days or people from HIS Home world will die.

    • B. Thinking Bruce is just new to the States he gets advice by a neighborhood old man to enroll in a few college courses and learn more about customs and culture to help him adapt and climatize him to find THE TECH and who to trust so to adjust he enrolls in a local college to get the ‘lay of the land’.

    • C. Bruce goes on unique transformational journey of becoming ‘human’ to hunt humans and not lose himself as he goes to find THE TECH.

    D. We are drawn into an intriguing world that is fast-paced and ever-changing moment to moment world that keeps you guessing.

    2. Tell us the World of this show.

Unique Sub-World: Bruce’s mission is to hunt a technology, called THE TECH, that is deemed too dangerous to be allowed to stay on Earth aka SIGMA 2619 while taking college classes and not trying to fall for a victim of THE TECH who is also a classmate.

Previously unexplored: the chase of THE TECH by a fish out of water who has memory loss and may not know which side is the right side to work with.

The unknown: who is to be trusted? From the agents to the Mysterious woman, everyone wants to find THE TECH or keep its’ secret hidden if you are not on the same team.

The unseen: Who is the Mystery woman who has been holding THE TECH.

Unheard of Dangers: If Bruce doesn’t work with the Agents and ever gets caught he may have to ask for help from the Mysterious woman who whispers to Bruce that they know each other.

Reason to explore it: When the Alien is put in a bind to trust the help from the Mystery woman. We can see if the Alien/Bruce can learn more about who he thinks is his enemy might turn into a useful ally.

    HOW TO:

Step 1: Discover places that need intrigue. Bruce working with the Agents. How would that look as a team as he poses as an insurance agent who is after the same thing for the bank.
Step 2: Check the Setups and Payoffs. Bruce working with the Agents but under an alias but really trying to steal THE TECH himself.
Bruce might also be forced to work with the Mysterious woman if he gets in a jam with The Agents.
Going it alone he will be against 3 things: The Agents, The Mysterious Woman and his feelings for Snowy.

Step 3: Brainstorm replacement lines. All done in the above and changes to the INTRIGUING CONCEPT & WORLD has been made.

    STEP 3: BRAINSTORM REPLACEMENT LINES

For replacement lines, you have two instant possibilities.

    1. Info from your BW Framework.

    A. Character Intrigue
    B. Empathy / Distress
    C. Relationship Hooks
    D. Mystery Bruce’s life from the Agents and the life of the Mysterious woman.
    E. Layers. Bruce arrives> plugs into local culture in college> teams up with The Agents> hunts the Mysterious woman> has to wrestle feels he has for Earth woman.
    F. Open Loops-Snowy turning him in/ not believing him/ teaming up with the Mysterious woman.

    2. The Intrigue formats

. The alien that lands on SIGMA 2619 /Earth is a fish out of water so he enrolls in classes at a college to know Earth more.

    B. Strong statement; Get to Earth, find the TECH bring it back or your home world will suffer or be killed.

    C. Question that points to hidden agendas. The very people who sent him might be the ones he shouldn’t be working for.

    D. Bruce is worried/wondering that Character 2 is a victim of the TECH and Bruce wants to reverse the damage.

    E. But maybe it is all wrong. And the Mysterious woman is an ally and they need to work together to save the Earth/Sigma 2619.

    F. A Pattern that Leads to Future Consequences. Working with the Agents from SIGMA 2619/Earth means that he might have to reveal that he is not a human after-all but something more. Or Bruce will have to cover his tracks that much more.

    G. If he does against the Mysterious woman and The Agents, that will mean more Intrigue for the story.

    H. State the mystery: who is The Mysterious woman and what does she want?

    I. Should Bruce work with The Agents, and one is willing to kill their partner it would mean Bruce partnered with a truly evil person, and make it even worse what he must do next.

    J. Intense language. The Agent willing to kill anyone to get ahead or the Mystery Woman who may stop at anything to get keep THE TECH secret.

    Show Summary (Lesson 6)

An alien is sent to earth and doesn’t know who to trust as he hunts for THE TECH, a technology that needs to be retrieved from dangerous people who may be using it to control the minds of humans, giving them skills to rob banks and wiping their minds when they are caught. A mysterious woman is accidentally discovered near and around each one of these incidents by a pair agents who are hot on her trail only they don’t know her next move.

As Bruce takes on SIGMA 2619’s custom he is tracing the residue left after THE TECH is used that leads him to a bar where he tries to take on local SIGMA 2619 habits, but this night is unlike any other with Bruce as he faces a college frosh week challenge and thinks he can outdrink humans in a human body without eating for two days that quickly falls flat and mixing in a state-allowed marijuana blunt called the “super” Susan result in a wacky trip into Bruce subconscious where the woman he is hunting stands next to him but being under the influence he thinks it is a dream never drank or smoked before that he is really the person who had THE TECH to start with and he sent this mysterious woman to get it.

Hearing a pounding he wakes up in a girl’s frat dorm not knowing what was real and what was not real. And outside the agents he was following that gave him the info about the Mysterious woman are now knocking outside the frat dorm he has woken up in. This is the end of the first season/pilot.

………Layer Agents from Earth/Sigma are also looking for the Mysterious woman

………Layer Bruce runs into one of the victims who lost her memory. He gives her sage advice not knowing she was a victim and thought she was on a life-journey.

..……Layer One of the Agents looks to get a promotion at the expense of procedure and looks to get results in anyway possible, even with the a life taken if necessary.

………Layer The Mysterious woman proves hard to catch and she is dangerous too if she uses the tech on unsuspecting victims. But her motive is unclear.

……Layer Bruce seems to be caught in a trap that would show him to be know about the TECH a lot more than he seems and blowing his cover but the MYSTERIOUS Woman saves him and tells him he has been to EARTH/SIGMA 2619 before and somewhat helps him piece together some of the gaps in his memory.

    • Question A: What layers have you already discovered in your BW Framework?

More like seeing new ones or helping the framework pop out more in different ways..

    • Question B: Are there any other layers that you could think of?

    5. Make a list of the Major Story Lines.

    • Question B: What are the most important story lines of this show?

    E. Cliffhanger: Bruce gets saved by the MYSTERIOUS WOMAN.

Summary: SEASON 1 Bruce is an alien sent to earth called SIGMA 2619, based on star year Earth was discover and named after the Emperor at that time. Bruce arrives after a signature technology that monitors the emissions that are emitted point him to a city in North America. As he monitors the situation he finds out there are 2 agents dispatched from a secretive agency to capture the woman responsible. They call her the Mysterious Woman. Bruce tries to navigate earth but gets helps from an elderly man who is blind thinks he is a immigrant that just doesn’t know US culture rather than him being an alien.

    Season 2:LEARNING TO SWIM

    A. High Concept or major hook of the season. The Alien Bruce quickly adapts to Earth or Sigma 2619 by talking daily with a blind man, who mistakes his for an immigrant instead of the Alien he is.

    B. Big Picture Arc/Journey: Bruce is adapting to Earth, not just his environment but the people live here and learns how their rules work.

    E. Cliffhanger: the Mysterious Woman purposes to finish off the new collector or send him back for a price.

Season 5 TIME TO FIGHT BACK

    A. High Concept or major hook of the season. Bruce is sure those who sent him are the ones who robbed him of his memory to protect the TECH.

    B. Big Picture Arc/Journey: Bruce instead of being a collect starts to fight back against the home world.

    C. Main Conflict: Against the Mysterious Woman who now has enemies it is revealed.

    D. Mystery/Open Loops: Can Bruce flush out the Mysterious Woman with her enemies in pursuit? Who are the Mysterious Woman’s enemies? Who was the 2nd collector before coming to Sigma 2619? Can people be redeemed (one of the agents or the 2nd collector or the Mysterious woman)?

    E. Cliffhanger: All secrets are revealed, what Bruce feels for Snowy. Who the Mysterious woman really is and how she knows Bruce! And with more memories does Bruce want to really find the TECH? And will he allow the TECH to be copied? Can it be copied?

    ASSIGNMENT 1:

    Summary

    2. Investigate by picking situations and characters and asking:

Tool 1: Dig: What’s beneath that?

-How does Bruce feel day to day? Is he optimistic or just plain hate Sigma 2619?

-Does he feel he is closer to solving who the Mystery Woman is?

Tool 2: Extrapolate: If Bruce gets involved with Snowy, then it changes a lot of how he will go after THE TECH.

-If Bruce listens to advice and takes courses at a community college then he might value Earth people of STIGMA 2619.

-If Bruce gets involved with the female agent, then it will change how she does her investigation.

-If Bruce gets involved with the female agents, then he might like to stay on Stigma 2619.

    Tool 3: Wonder:

-What if the Mysterious woman is telling the truth to Bruce?

-What if Bruce’s bosses send someone unexpectedly to work with him or in competition with him?

-What if Bruce’s bosses send someone to kill him/Snowy/one of the Agent/Mystery Woman?

    Tool 4: Backtrack:

-How could Bruce have been to Earth already and hid THE TECH have happened?

-What happens if Bruce already had set up enough information to give to the agents indicating THE TECH needs to be protected?

Tool 5: Forecast: How could this get even worse?

Bruce will reconcile that the agency he is working for is pure evil to erase his memory.

Bruce will have to play the game until he is in a position of leverage/ sabotage.

-The agents see him as a threat/ catch him sabotaging their work?

-Snowy finds out who he is?

-The Agents find out who he is?

-The Mystery woman is lying and she is very dangerous?

-The Mystery woman is telling the truth and her and Bruce do know each other?

    3. Evaluate the possibilities and decide what you are going to use in the different parts of your TV Pitch Bible. Divide the answers into three categories:

Use in TV Pitch Bible-keep handy

Use in Episodes. Definitely use and may it out with time lines in shows.

    R. Reid Jr’s Intriguing Concept and World

What I learned doing this assignment is a new angle of considering that someone on the team or someone that helps them is really a plant for a bad guy. I wouldn’t have found that out on my own except when I am exploring all these different worlds. It wasn’t even a type of thing I was looking at to explore any twists. But revisiting this world again and again I am exploring more.

    ASSIGNMENT: show #1 SIGMA 2619

    Present your concept and world.

    1. Present your Concept.

    • A.. An Alien named Bruce, who is a fish out of water is sent to retrieve some stolen TECH that alters minds in 60 days or people from HIS Home world will die.

    • B.Thinking Bruce is just new to the States he gets advice by a neighborhood old man to enroll in a few college courses and learn more about customs and culture to help him adapt and climatize him to find THE TECH and who to trust so to adjust he enrolls in a local college to get the ‘lay of the land’.

    • C. Bruce goes on unique transformational journey of becoming ‘human’ to hunt humans and not lose himself as he goes to find THE TECH.

    • D. We are drawn into an intriguing world that is fast-paced and ever-changing moment to moment world that keeps you guessing.

    2. Tell us the World of this show.

    • Unique Sub-World: Bruce’s mission is to hunt a technology, called THE TECH, that is deemed too dangerous to be allowed to stay on earth aka SIGMA 2619 while taking college classes and not trying to fall for a victim of THE TECH who is also a classmate.

    • Previously unexplored: the chase of THE TECH by a fish out of water who has memory loss and may not know which side is the right side to work with

The unknown: who is to be trusted? From the agents to the Mysterious woman, everyone wants to find THE TECH or keep its’ secret hidden if you are not on the same team.

    • The unseen: Who is the Mystery woman who has been holding THE TECH.

    • Unheard of Dangers: If Bruce doesn’t work with the Agents and ever gets caught he may have to ask for help from the Mysterious woman who whispers to Bruce that they know each other.

    • Reason to explore it: When the Alien is put in a bind to trust the help from the Mystery woman. We can see if the Alien/Bruce can learn more about who he thinks is his enemy might turn into a useful ally.

ASSIGNMENT: SHOW#2 KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K.

    Present your concept and world.

    1. Present your Concept.

    • A. Engaging and highly proactive hero Ken and a few ensemble cast who are chasing down the kidnappers of Casey K. who holds too many of their secrets to not rescue.

    • B. Ken and the rescuers are up against a major conflict, who kidnapped Casey K.

    • C. Ken goes on unique transformational journey of trust few people to leading a team.

    • D. We go into into an intriguing world of smugglers and kidnapping.

    2. Tell us the World of this show.

    • Unique Sub-World: the hacker who tries to find the kidnappers by hacking into different systems.

    • Previously unexplored: the stories of the people who are viciously trying to defend their pasts and secure their futures against Casey ‘spilling the beans’ of their lives.

    • The unknown: where will chasing the kidnappers lead.

    • The unseen: even hacking into their data could lead to unknown consequences for those looking to protect themselves.

    • Unheard of Dangers: having the kidnappers go after someone on the team. Or having someone on the team who is a plant within the group by the kidnappers not found out until it is too late.

    • Reason to explore it: Going after kidnappers for young and driven young people with everything to loose is dangerous and exciting for the viewers to watch.

    R. Reid Jr. Show Summary

“What I learned doing this assignment is how my work is organized from my BW frame work and some of it might look like repetition but may help us look very organized in a pitch meeting if a producer or executive asks us about this or other documents. It is definitely worth it to do this and draw from previous work and always keep creating.”

ENGAGE US IN THE MAIN MYSTERY:

    SIGMA 2619

Our main character is sent to SIGMA 2619, the name given in the celestial year of 2619, we simple know it as Earth. Our main character has a simple task to bring back stolen TECH. The reports about what it does exactly is not known. But the TECH if left on Earth can be used to test on humans on this planet and do irreversible damage. The deadline of about 2 moon cycles is real or the home world of Bruce will be brutalized.

He is dispatched to SIGMA 2619 by portal but told his memory maybe foggy from an aftereffect of space travel by portal. Bruce arriving with skills to keep himself hidden comes with him. He goes after the TECH by tracing its residue left after being used. Only tracing its residue proves impossible to find the TECH.

But after following two people who are investigating the scene who are given high access he overhears there might have been a woman seen at places close by where these “incidents” of people loosing their memory have taken place.

Bruce follows the clues to the first place where it was thought this mysterious woman first appeared in a local college bar. In not knowing the effect of the earth drink alcohol and blunt mixed together, Bruce is challenged to deal with these substances that take him on a journey in his mind, like a waking dream. It appears he is just high and a little drunk only the mysterious woman appears in his dream and tells him a warning that he is the one who sent the TECH to earth in the first place and that his mind has been erased. And he is hunting down the people he sent to hid this tech in the first place and this ends the pilot. Bruce wakes up hungover, a stranger in a strange land and not knowing who to trust or who is real.

    2. Create an outline using this structure or something similar:

i)Set up — (Character’s normal situation) The normal situation is not clear because the main character arrives on earth-kind of a blank slate with flashbacks slowly knowing little of where he is from or even if he is a good guy or a bad guy. <div>

    <div>

ii)Twist/Hook- he might be the enemy he is hunting when under the influence is told he is the one that gave the order to hid the TECH he is looking for.

iii) (The Real situation – Major Empathy / Distress) He is really a fish out of water not knowing the customs on earth as he is hunting an item he calls, THE TECH.

iv) Twist/Hook- the people he maybe hunting are possibly people he sent to SIGMA 2619/Earth to hide the tech.

    v) (Impossible to solve conflict or major mystery). Who is the mysterious woman everyone is searching for?

vi)( Final Hook into the Series – Extreme Dramatic Question) While under the influence the Mysterious woman tells him that he sent THE TECH to earth to hide it and he shouldn’t be hunting the people sent to keep THE TECH safe.

    3) rough draft of the outline

And outside<font face=”inherit”> the agents he was following that gave him the info about the </font>Mysterious<font face=”inherit”> woman are now knocking outside the frat dorm he has woken up in. R. Reid Jr’s EPISODE LIST ROUGH DRAFT. Module 2 Assignment 4

What I learned during this lesson was how important it is to do a lot of planning to make my “pre-writing” a bit more fool-proof than just writing off the cuff” but with a plan. A plan that sells to a producer. This like the other exercises is helping me gain a clear path to making this story with characters that are believable, have things to deal with. And beginnings and endings for each Season, beginning with Season 1.

    R. Reid Jr’s CHEAT SHEET

    1. Beginning…Bruce an alien with no memory besides basic skills and a mission is sent to earth Season End/Cliffhanger…and it ends with the Mysterious woman he has been chasing saving his life

    • Question A: What is the Beginning of the season and the End of the season?

    • Question B: What possible cliffhanger could be in that last scene of the season, thus demanding that we watch the next season?

By Bruce having the person he has been chasing saving his life or his life is her hands puts us on the edge of our seats.

    2. Season 1 Mystery Set up The Mysterious woman saying Bruce has been here to Earth/Sigma 2619 before.…………………………………..………………Season 1 Mystery Solved Clues indicate that Bruce has been here before, but he only gets it in clues he finds and instances of his memory that he can’t fully trust.

    • Question A: What is the mystery?

    • Question B: How could the mystery be set up? What parts will be left out that must be solved?

Having Bruce recall certain things in bits of flashes as he goes places or meets people. Like going to a place for the first time where SNOWY has been brainwashed is familiar to Bruce as if he has been there before.

    • Question C: What it the ultimate solution that the characters must work to discover?

Bruce can choose to trust the Mysterious woman’s words that he has been to Earth/Sigma before. But that messes with his handlers thinking or instructing him on Earth/Sigma and his lack of adjustment.

    3. Journey begins when he arrives on Earth/Sigma 2619 hot on trial of the emission of the TECH being used. Journey peaks when he runs into the agents also looking for the TECH but they have a different goal: they don’t know about the TECH as they are hunting the woman using the TECH.

    • Question A: Where does the Lead Character journey begin and end for this season?

Bruce begins his journey as he arrives on earth and ends with the Mysterious woman saving his life and telling him he has been here before.

    • Question B: Think about where this character goes in future seasons. That might give you an idea also.

    4. ……Layer Bruce arrives on Earth/Sigma 2619

….…Layer Bruce’s own memory is a bit foggy, he thinks it is from the trip to come to Earth/Sigma or the earth it’s self that is having an affect on him.

    ………<font face=”inherit”>Layer Bruce traces the TECH he is </font>looking for<font face=”inherit”> to a Mysterious woman. </font>

………Layer Agents from Earth/Sigma are also looking for the Mysterious woman

………Layer Bruce runs into one of the victims who lost her memory. He gives her sage advice not knowing she was a victim and thought she was on a life-journey.

<font face=”inherit”>………Layer One of the Agents looks to get a promotion at the expense of procedure and looks to get results in anyway </font>possible, e<font face=”inherit”>ven with the a life taken if necessary. </font>

    • Question A: What main characters have story lines that affect everyone else?

    • Question B: What are the most important story lines of this show?

-Bruce to appear as a fish out of water

-Bruce to have gaps in his memory

-One of the agents to appear to have ambitions that can put his partner in grave jeopardy.

-The Mysterious woman be almost impossible to catch

-The TECH to be deadly if left in the wrong hands

    OUTLINING PROCESS

As you are doing this process, allow yourself to fill in the things that come to you, and don’t stress about the rest. Once you have some answers filled in, many of the others will just show up.

    1. Use all the above questions to mine the BW Framework for possible episode ideas. List out your answers.

    • Episode 1: Bruce arriving on Earth/Sigma 2619 as a fish out of water.

    • Episode 2: The Mysterious woman has left a trail of victims that have no memory.

    • Episode 3: The Agents on the scene on focused no the person and not the TECH being used.

    • Episode 4: Bruce meets the Agents but poses as no risk and as an insurance agent.

    • Episode 5: Agents propose to work with Bruce and help his insurance report.

    • Episode 6: Bruce gets close to seeing the Mysterious woman but runs into Snowy, the first

    victim.

    • Episode 7 One of the Agents Bruce over-hears is willing to risk his partner’s life and Bruce to

    catch the Mysterious woman.

    • Episode 8 Bruce memory starts coming back as he sees footage of the first crime cause he

gets a glimpse of the Mystery woman and may have figured out how to catch her.

    • Episode 9 Mysterious woman leaves a message for Bruce telling him he has been here to

    Earth/SIGMA 2619 before.

    • Episode 10 The Mysterious woman finds Bruce trapped but instead of letting him get caught by the agents by chance, she helps him escapee.

    R. Reid Jr’s Five Seasons

“What I learned doing this assignment is the planning I have done up this point and assignments I have completed have prepared me for this work. And it will get better as I go back and revised and retool this project until she is ready to dazzle and swim on her own. ” I also was able to use the building blocks to do a basic layout of points of the season but using the High Concept to cliff-hanger to have a visualization. But the summary really had me thinking how things can sound to a producer, who sees I really have a grasp of my story in a way I didn’t think was possible.

Season 1: FISH OUT OF WATER

    Season 2: LEARNING TO SWIM

Season 3: WHO ARE MY FRIENDS?

Season 4: WHO ARE MY ENEMIES?

Season 5: TIME TO FIGHT BACK

Season 1: FISH OUT OF WATER

    A. High Concept or major hook of the season. An alien without a memory is sent to earth to find stolen TECH and return it.

    B. Big Picture Arc/Journey: the alien learns that Humans come in all shapes and forms.

    C. Main Conflict: Alien must consider who is his friend and make alliances or go it alone.

    D. Mystery/Open Loops:<font face=”inherit”> Why did the </font>Mysterious<font face=”inherit”> woman say he has been to Earth/SIGMA 2619 before? Would one of the 2 agents </font>trying<font face=”inherit”> to catch the Mysterious woman turn on everyone for his promotion? Can the Mysterious woman really be a friend? Who is the female </font>Agent with the hidden past? Is it right to help the victim if you didn’t know who she was at first?<font face=”inherit”> </font>

    E. Cliffhanger: Bruce gets saved by the MYSTERIOUS WOMAN.

<font face=”inherit”>Summary: SEASON 1 Bruce and </font>alien<font face=”inherit”> sent to earth called SIGMA 2619, based on </font>the<font face=”inherit”> star year Earth was discover and named after the </font>Galactic<font face=”inherit”> Emperor at that time. A technology is lost </font>and being<font face=”inherit”> used to control humans and is </font>running<font face=”inherit”> rampant. And may </font>destroy this tiny planet.

    C. Main Conflict: Bruce playing the middle between the Mysterious woman and the Agents.

    D. Mystery/Open Loops:<font face=”inherit”> Will Bruce be able to adapt to Earth? What memories are coming back for Bruce to know about the Mysterious woman? </font>

    E. Cliffhanger: the Agent who is willing to sell out everyone get his chance. <font face=”inherit”>
    </font>

<font face=”inherit”>
    </font>

Season 3: WHO ARE MY FRIENDS?

    A. High Concept or major hook of the season. Bruce, an Alien is learning who to trust as he navigates Earth.

    B. Big Picture Arc/Journey: In a twist, Bruce enrolls in a local college that is part time studies. Only some of his classmates may have been planted there to spy on him. Bruce is learning as Earth Humans do by trial and error.

    C. Main Conflict: Working with the two agents he learns that 3s a crowd in a team of 2.

    D. Mystery/Open Loops:<font face=”inherit”> What really happened to the 2nd agent and how did she get like this? </font>

<font face=”inherit”>the old man he meets in the mornings has a strange past, will he open up? How will he connect with Snowy-help her or </font>love<font face=”inherit”> her?</font>

    E. Cliffhanger: Snowy’s life is in danger and the alien may have to use his powers to save her. Will things ever be the same when you discover your friend has powers?

Season 4 WHO ARE MY ENEMIES?

    A. High Concept or major hook of the season. Another collector is sent from the homeward.

    B. Big Picture Arc/Journey: Going from seeker of the TECH to protector of human rights on SIGMA 2619.

    C. Main Conflict: To keep on working with the Humans and not form any attachments that can put them in harm. The Mysterious woman steps up her attacks. Memories are pouring back in in fragments.

    D. Mystery/Open Loops: Who is the new collector here to monitor the humans or Bruce? Will the female agent say how she feels about Bruce as he gets closer to Snowy?

    E. Cliffhanger: the Mysterious Woman purposes to finish off the new collector or send him back for a price.

Noteworthy traits Intriguing history: Intrigue? the main character memory has been wiped but he still has a few traits like “stealth” and advanced fighting skills. But it is a mystery what he did before to result with a wiped out memory.

The intrigue is watching him operate like a fish out of water.

Mystery? Who is the Mysterious woman who holds the TECH and what does she want as people around her are doing her bidding to commit crimes and then quickly have no knowledge of the crimes or the time during the crimes.

How do they support or drive the conflict with others?

Bruce is opposed the woman he is hunting down and stay away from the 2 agents who are hunting down the Mysterious woman the TECH itself. it is unclear if they are good or bad.

Irony — Opposites or paradoxes that exist with the character Opposing agendas/etc. that naturally causes conflict with other charactersUnpredictable?Intriguing relationship with one or more characters.

-Bruce is on the trail of the TECH and the Mysterious woman and him cross paths only she tells him that they know each other while he is waiting for SNOWY to return from the bathroom. She is the first victim and he has to stay with her to find out what happened to her.

START: (Present the character as someone we can relate to.)

Bruce is a fish out of water and clearly he needs help but her isn’t a menacing person and won’t commit crimes to get what he wants. He seem patient to start his journey on Earth/SIGMA 2619

    MIDDLE: (Conflict, intrigue, and issues.)

He starts off trying to do things on his own but quickly finds he is in over his head. He also discovers there are two special agents looking for the TECH and also a MYSTERIOUS woman who was close to the site of the crimes.

ENDING: (A final punchline that hooks us and sends us into the future of the story.)

-The Mysterious woman tells BRUCE that he is the one who sent the TECH to EARTH 2619 and that they do indeed know each other because he was the one who sent her to earth in the first place.

TITLE SHOW#1 THE KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K.

A main character (KEN) and answer the following questions:

Who is the character? He is mostly on the good side of the main person who is missing.

Role in the show? He is reluctantly going to try to be the moral compass of the people who are looking for Casey K

Noteworthy traits Intriguing history: Intrigue? Casey the guy who is missing has funded the start up company that Ken has started it. When things flipped around in middle school it was Ken who protected Casey from bullies at their middle school.

(Mystery? )Though Casey has funded Ken’s start up-his life day to day is unknown to Ken. The mystery of how you can get someone so hateful of you that they would kidnap you at your own part and then try and cover it up is the biggest mystery Ken and those around him are trying to solve.

(How do they support or drive the conflict with others?) Ken as stated is the moral compass of the friends and associates of Casey K who might be willing to do illegal things and beyond that to keep their secrets safe. Ken wants to find Casey K but doesn’t want to break the law doing it.

Irony — (Opposites or paradoxes that exist with the character Opposing agendas/etc. that naturally causes conflict with other charactersUnpredictable?)

-As said above Ken doesn’t want to break the law and he would rather walk around any issue but is forced more than once to bulldoze a problem when peaceful solutions are not available.

Intriguing relationship with one or more characters.

-Ken is opposite to Casey K (they were middle-school friends) and Mallory (one of Casey’s charity cases it looks like) but turns out Mallory is a TAKE-CHARGE-KIND-OF-GIRL when the occasion arises.

START: Present the character as someone we can relate to. Ken presents himself as someone you want to depend on. That good friend Casey has called at all sort of hours to run an idea by or to have some consoling word from when he lost money or a company didn’t work out.

MIDDLE: Conflict, intrigue, and issues. When Ken is tasking himself to find Casey K he doesn’t realize that the people around him don’t have moral compasses. Some of them seem to be more or less a menagerie of criminals Casey has associated with. Ken is trying to stay the strait and narrow road but is constantly drawn into not seeing the line he has created to not be like Casey K’s friends who see no difference between good and evil.

ENDING: A final punchline that hooks us and sends us into the future of the story. Every time he gets through a problem and closer to finding Casey K he starts to change and amass the respect of people on the wrong side of the law while he is searching for someone who might have more or less broken the law many times.

    • A. Engaging and highly proactive hero who is an Alien sent to retrieve some stolen tech that alters minds.

    • B. Bruce is up against a major conflict of being new on SIGMA 2619/Earth and who to trust.

    • C. Bruce goes on unique transformational journey of new person when he goes after the tech.

    • D. We are drawn into an intriguing world that is fast-paced and ever-changing moment to moment world that keeps you guessing.

    2. Tell us the World of this show.

    • Unique Sub-World: An Alien that is hunting a technology that is deemed too dangerous to be allowed to stay on earth known by off-worlders as SIGMA 2619.

    • Previously unexplored: the chase of the tech by a fish out of water tech hunter.

    • The unknown: who to be trusted: the agents looking for the tech as well.

    • The unseen: Who is the Mystery woman who has been holding the tech.

    • Unheard of Dangers: that the Alien once caught by the agents might have to use the help of the Mystery woman (the enemies of my enemies).

What I learned from doing this assignment is I can always learn more and having this framework handy is going to help me write faster. And I can also see the relationships between my characters and what I can readily improve on in place to go back and improve upon.

    Ron Reid Jr. Creating Irony!

“What I learned doing this assignment is irony makes an interesting journey for the story stand out in plot and or structure. I think I am learning to set up what might be a comedy or a chance for my characters breath somewhat.

    ASSIGNMENT 1: Example Show LOST

Irony of the show is not always strong or direct on the show. <div>

But some ironies is one of the monsters on the islands is the polar bear that attacks in the pilot. Polar bears aren’t found on tropical islands. But one of the main characters kills the polar with their gun.

Another is the survival of the plane crash victims themselves why they survived.

Another is the tail section of the plane has all of the survivors survive on the other side of the island.

The relationships of the people on the islands seem impossible.

Shannon who had a person Sayid arrest in Australia ends up falling in love with him on the Island after finding more meaning in her life.

Michael asks his son, Walt to stay away from the old man John, John in turn finds their missing dog and helps to give the credit of finding the dog to Michael, that helps him in turn bond with his son.

Sawyer helped by Michael who doesn’t call him a friend.

Sawyer who gets better risks his life to help find Michael.

The show LOST is really built on a lot of ironies that we don’t expect that keeps the shows unexpected that I need to bring into my own writing.

    <div>

Sawyer getting headaches due to over-reading- this resulted in him needing glasses and since his eye sight on both eyes needed two different glasses to be welded together. Another irony is that one of the glasses had to be a pair of woman’s glasses.

    ASSIGNMENT 2: Show#1 SIGMA 2619

My shows is about an alien who comes to earth to retrieve some tech that will save his planet.

The irony will be the same people are the ones he should not give the tech too!

The irony will also be that the very same people are the ones that have possibly wiped out his memory so they can’t be remembered by the main character as he comes to earth.

The irony of the woman who he runs across and might be the one hiding and using the tech his trying to find is that she and Bruce, the alien might already know each other. In fact they might be have former friends or even lovers.

The irony is that trying to just work with the humans might have created a love triangle between the alien, the female agent his working with and the first girl they encounter who had her memory wiped out. The irony of staying out of the spotlight has not worked.

The irony of trying to help everyone won’t overshadow the idea that the one agent wants to get a promotion and if that means recovering the tech to get that promotion he may take it.

Irony of the mystery woman who has the tech is that she is not evil but maybe just trying to keep evil hands from taking the tech off of earth and destroying other planets if you used on a large scale.

Irony is that Snowy, the girl who is rescued doesn’t know or accept that she needs helps at all.

irony of the main partner not knowing his partner is falling for the alien they are working with.

Irony of the relationship what if! if the alien and the agent had a relationship, where would it go? If he gets the tech would he return to earth?

Irony of what if again. What if the tech was destroyed or not found in time- like in 60 days, what will happen?

Assignment #2 Show #2 THE KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K

Irony of the main characters is they don’t know each other until something happens.

Irony of the main person kidnapped is he has many people who don’t care for him but he knows their secrets and that might be the driving force for their help.

Irony of some people who were helped by Casey didn’t know Casey was helping steer their lives behind the scenes for the better.

Irony of Casey K as an arrogant genius was his down fall to getting kidnapped. People used his need to have a big party and many helpers to have the kidnappers to staff themselves as the helpers and plan his kidnapping right under his nose.

    Ron Reid Jr <font face=”inherit”>Big Picture Open Loops (A</font>ssignments<font face=”inherit”> 1 +2)</font>

“What I learned doing this assignment is that Open loops can help me open my stories with a bang, while small loops can help keep intensity on one show or characters or even a situation.

They essentially can be very powerful.

    ASSIGNMENT 1 SHOW: LOST

    1. Think about your Example Show. Make a list of the Big Picture open loops that were established early in the season.

BIG picture loops for everyone is: the CRASH of the airplane and

    -will they get rescued

    -when will they get rescued

-will animals in the jungle kill them if they wander too far

    Smaller Loops

-will they have enough to eat

-who is the French woman and what is her intensions (radio for Sayid and then taking the baby away as a sacrifice/exchange for her own son who was taken).

-will the raft of Michael, Jin, Sawyer and Walt make it.

-what is in the underground tunnel?

-why does the button need to be pressed every 108 mins?

-what will happen if they don’t?

-who are the others who captured them?

    2. Watch the next episode and see how those open loops are being used to create the need to see future episodes.

-smaller loop of the raft-they get attacked from a ship, Walt is taken and the rest of them are put in a pit, with a new prisoner who turns out to be a spy.

-will Shanon get over Boon’s death and become a partner for Sayid and look after Walt’s dog for more than a day?

    Deadline: 24 hours

    <hr>ASSIGNMENT 2: Show: SIGMA 2619

    1. Use this list to brainstorm big picture open loops for your first season that you will use to keep the audience captivated.

BIG OPEN LOOPS-What is this tech that controls people to the point they will attack people.

<font face=”inherit”>Who is the mystery woman that seems to be controlling people with the tech to control minds and </font>commit crimes?

Who will Bruce trust? The agents or himself to find the mystery woman and the tech?

Where did the tech come from that everyone is looking for?

What happens to Bruce’s people if he doesn’t find the tech in time?

Why do we think the mystery woman and Bruce may know each other?

    GOALS:

<div>Bruce has to make an alliance with the Agents but not reveal himself-that he is an alien? </div>

Snowy who lost her memory or had no direction wants to find herself again.

New goals?Goals related to the big picture?Crushed goals?Competition / conflict around goals?

    CONSEQUENCES:

Will Bruce get caught searching for the tech and not working with the agents?

Are they going to be caught?Problems created from past actions?Good plans gone wrong? <div>

Consequence of Bruce falling for the Agent on his mission!

Consequence of falling for Snowy and trying to complete his mission. What happens to her if he gets the tech? Will he take her with him or try to stay on Earth?

    <div>

    SOLVING PROBLEMS:

Bruce is trying to figure out who the mystery woman is.

The agents are hunting the mystery woman.

What is the major problem for this character? What are they trying to solve?Major change imposed on character?Previous solutions cause new problems?

    RELATIONSHIPS:

Is it possible that one of the agent is falling for Bruce?

Is Snowy falling for Bruce at the same time as the Agent is?

Can the other agent and Bruce get along if Bruce is dating his partner and be objective?

What if there is tension with the agent(s) and Bruce if they don’t get along but they all want the tech or to destroy it?

    Relationships in peril?New relationships forming?Conflict inside relationships?Relationships changing?</div><div>

    DANGER / SURVIVAL / RISKS:

Bruce may feel he is putting others at risk to reveal himself he wants the tech without revealing who he is?

What will the Mystery Woman do if Bruce tries and to take the tech?

If other alien/earth agents are sent to get the tech from Bruce or the Mystery Woman with orders to kill everyone, will any of them survive?

Everyone is in danger as long as this tech is being used.

(Can they survive X?Putting themselves in danger / making dangerous decisions?Who else is pulled into their danger?Internal dangers (drug addiction, need for medicine, inner demons)?))

ASSIGNMENT 2: THE KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K.

    1. Use this list to brainstorm big picture open loops for your first season that you will use to keep the audience captivated.

    BIG PICTURE LOOPS

-The main man of the party who ties and brings everyone together is kidnapped.

    -why was he kidnapped?

    Ron’s Show Mysteries: Assignment 1 & 2

What I learned doing this assignment Is that this approach gave me a lot of things in the story and plot I can spread out but have a plot the audience will want to follow and be amazed as things are slowly revealed. Very applicable to my story writing.

    ASSIGNMENT 1: Show Lost

Bigger mysteries: stranded people believing commonly that they will be rescued.

    TWISTS AND TURNS

Jack-on the surface he doesn’t have faith easily. And the mystery of this is revealed slowly with flashbacks. And numerous people have approached him about changing but that was only known if you watch the flashbacks as he had set back after set back with family and then with patients who didn’t return to good health.

    GROUP VS INDIVIDUAL

As groups of people survey the island the discover and see many things.

Even in SMALL GROUPS there are mysteries of what is a sealed room doing in the middle of the jungle and each person has a mysterious reaction or way they handle those mysteries.

    INDIVIDUAL

Each person reflects on what they are seeing and we get glimpses of their thinking “now” behavior that came from flashbacks we see in vignettes/small flashbacks.

    SUMMARY EFFECT on STORY

The stories are simple on the island but as people react, interact with danger and each other in new situations we see the need to establish a surface characters and did down for him or her or them later in the story to add more or reveal more and more layers as things go on in the series.

All of the Watch the next episode of your Example Show and focus on the mysteries that have been created in that show. Also, notice the difference between the big picture mysteries that are a big part of the plot across the entire season versus the smaller mysteries.

Tell us about the mysteries from this show.

    Deadline: 24 hours

    ASSIGNMENT 2:

    Show#1 : SIGMA 2619

PREMISE: HUMANOID ALIEN IS TASKS WITH RETRIEVING SOME TECH THAT WAS STOLEN BY HIS EMPLOYER OR HIS FAMILY/PLANET WILL BE KILLED/SUFFER.

Create two mysteries for your show — one that shows up strong in the Pilot and the other that is revealed over time.

    1. Create your Shocking Events Mystery

THE MYSTERIOUS BANK ROBBERY BY PEOPLE WHO DON’T HAVE ANY MEMORY OF CARRYING IT OUT. AND THEN THE ATTACK OF MAN IN THE PARK AND HIS MEMORY DISAPPEARING

    • A. Cover up: SPECIAL AGENTS DISPATCHED RATHER THAN LOCAL POLICE OR FBI.

    • B. Secret: WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN AND CAN ANYONE PREDICT WHEN SHE WILL STRIKE NEXT.

    • C. Reveals: THAT PEOPLE COMMITTING CRIMES DON’T KNOW THEY ARE DOING ANYTHING WHEN THEY SUDDENLY WAKE UP OR OUT OF A TRANCE.

    • WHO IS BEHIND EVERYTHING? WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT AFTER THE ATTACK IN THE PARK? WHERE WILL THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN STRIKE NEXT? WHEN WILL THE ALIEN AND AGENTS WORK TOGETHER? WHY ARE PEOPLE BEING USED? and How WILL THE ALIEN SOLVE THESE MYSTERIES WITH THE HELP OF THE AGENTS OR GO IT ALONE?

    • Part Withheld: THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN AND THE ALIEN WHO CAN’T REMEMBER HER.

    2. Create the Over Time Mystery

    • A. Shocking Event: THE PEOPLE WHO ARE UNDER THE SPELL OF THIS TECH ARE COMPELLED TO CARRY OUT ROBBERIES AND OR MURDERS. BUT THE MYSTERY IS WHY AND HOW ARE THEY AT ALL CONNECTED.

    • B. Secret: WHO IS THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN BEHIND THE THEFT OF THE TECH?

    • C. Investigation: THE SPECIAL TASK FORCE OF 2 AGENTS EACH BRING THEIR OWN BAGGAGE AND AMBITIONS TOWARD THIS JOB.

    • WWWWW and How:

WHO-IS THE ALIEN SENT TO GET THE TECH AND WHO IS THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN? WHAT DOES THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN WANT? WHO OWNS THE TECH? WHERE DID IT COME FROM? WHY IS THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN USING IT? HOW WILL THE HUMANOID ALIEN GET THIS TECH BACK FROM THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN AND HOW CAN HE TRUST THE AGENTS OR SHOULD HE TRUST THE AGENTS?

    • Part Withheld: THE MOTIVE OF THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN AND DO HER AND THE ALIEN ACTUALLY KNOW EACH OTHER? **I WAS THINKING OF HAVING PART OF THE ALIEN’S MEMORY BE A LITTLE BIT FOGGY.

Show #2 THE KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K

Create two mysteries for your show — one that shows up strong in the Pilot and the other that is revealed over time.

    1. Create your Shocking Event Mystery- and tell us the WWWWW and H, along with the part withheld.

    • A. Shocking Event: THE KIDNAPPING OF THE CENTRAL LIFE OF THE PARTY FROM HIS OWN PARTY.

    • B. Secret: WHY WAS HER KIDNAPPED.

    • C. Investigation: A GROUP OF HIS MISFITS AND FRIENDS TRY AND LOCATE HIM BEFORE SOMETHING CAN HAPPEN.

    • WHO KIDNAPPED HIM? WHAT DO THEY WANT? MONEY, POWER OR LEVERAGE? WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO LOOK FOR HIM FIRST? WHY SHOULD THEY WORK TOGETHER? WHEN WILL THEY FIND HIM-IN A WEEK OR A FEW DAYS? and How WILL THEY DO IT WHEN THEY CAN’T STAND EACH OTHER AND ARE MOSTLY STRANGERS?

    • Part Withheld: THE MOTIVE FOR THE KIDNAPPING.

    2. Create the Over Time Mystery and tell us the WWWWW and H, along with the part withheld.

    • A. Cover up: SECRETS OF THE CHARACTERS AS THEY COOPERATE WITH EACH OTHER.

    • B. Secret: EVERYONE WHO HELPS IS HOLDING SOMETHING BACK

    • C. Reveals: THE REAL REASON PEOPLE ARE HELPING TO LOOK FOR CASEY K.

    • WHY IS CASEY SO IMPORTANT TO FIND? WHO KIDNAPPED HIM AND WHAT IS THEIR LONG TERM PLANS? WHEN WILL OTHER PEOPLE’S SECRETS BE REVEALED? WHERE SHOULD THEY START FIRST? and How WILL THEY RECRUIT PEOPLE TO WORK TOGETHER OR SHOULD THEY WORK ALONE?

    • Part Withheld: CASEY’S PAST RATHER THAN THOSE HELPING HIM.

What I learned from this assignment that there can be bigger level Empathy with the situation of the story and it can go to groups in the story and especially to individuals and those situation can play at different times and effect different characters I have in my story.

I can only see this assignment as a way to bring my stories to a BINGE-WORTHY level of writing. I am getting another tool to use that I think will level up my game and stories.

    ASSIGNMENT 1: SHOW: LOST

    1. Empathy is given for the character of Sawyer as Hurley comes up with a way to bond and destress playing golf. Everyone is invited except Sawyer. Despite revealing his brokenness to Kate previously she suggests that he starts winning others back and stop feeling sorry for himself.

Empathy for Sawyer allowing himself to be tortured by others because he feels sorry about himself.

Distress- Jack’s struggle to help Shannon with her asthma until Sun Hwa Kwon uses natural aloe to help her breath normal again. He is willing to allow Sayid to torture Sawyer to get some medicine he thinks he has (but ends up not having).

    2. Notice the difference between Big Picture Empathy/Distress

-for the characters of the show is lacking food, then lacking water, then numerous medical problems that come up in the characters.

And Detail-oriented Empathy/Distress shows up in all the characters :

Shannon with her denial of being rescued. Jack with no participating in a eulogy.

with Sayid in torturing (or about to torture) Sawyer until he stops after stabbing his arm in a struggle.

And John with holding Charlie’s drug to help him fight his addiction. It has a happy ending with Charlie finally demanding the drugs back after a series of asks to John to throw his drugs into the fire.

Big Picture is something that everyone shares together I am finding vs. the detailed empathy or distress that only one character relives or a small group of people know about. The impact really shows a level of emotion and moves both the plot and story along with strong hooks to see the episode and binge watch the show.

ASSIGNMENT #2 show #1: THE KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K

    CHARACTERS: BRUCE (THE HUMANOID ALIEN)

    A. Undeserved misfortune. Has lost his memory and has a hard time adjusting to knowing who to trust. So at times will trust no one.

    B. External Character conflicts. Is under threat to have his home-world destroyed.

    C. Plot intruding on life. In order to get the tech who has to consider working with the humans (the two agents) to get closer to obtaining the tech he was commissioned to retrieve or others in his home-world will be destroyed.

    D. Moral dilemmas. His is finding the mysterious woman who claims to know him but because he can’t retrieve his memories fully she might be a good liar or a common ally.

    E. Forced decisions they’d never make. To work with the humans against the mysterious woman who may have the tech or ally with the mysterious woman and risk killing people from his home-world. She gives him a dilemma that he might be being lied to.

    SHOW #2 SIGMA 2619

    CHARACTERS: KEN/CASEY

    A. Undeserved misfortune. Ken is under the thumb when his business tanks. And only Casey bails him out. Casey getting kidnapped from his own party.

    B. External Character conflicts. Ken can’t risk not helping Casey get freed or his golden goose in financing will dry up. Casey in being killed by his kidnappers or having his fortune taken away. Casey has enemies left, right and center. An enemy may come from anywhere. A lot of people resent his money, how he throws his party and the punishment reward system Casey has over people. Most people who he bails out he has under an obligation to attend his yearly parties and do other favors at a moment’s notice.

    C. Plot intruding on life. Ken has to team up with other people in order to find Casey and secure his future. Casey relies on the evidence he has on other people that they will rescue him out of any dilemma.

    D. Moral dilemmas. I haven’t put any moral dilemmas on my characters but I will figure how I can up the ante on all the characters to rescue the kidnapped Casey before each of them has to suffer because of the info he holds over them or money he can withhold from them at anytime.

    E. Forced decisions they’d never make.

It would be a willingness to kill someone or break the law or even to expose some of the secrets of another character to get some information or help he needs.

***But I will also try to have these situations built up before they are executed on the outline.

    Assignment 4 August 25

Subject line: (Ron Reid ) Intriguing Character Layers

“What I learned doing this assignment is that modeling the show I am watching and the examples of shows like HOUSE OF CARDS AND BREAKING BAD is that my stories are beginning to show layers that I wouldn’t have normally had before. I am being held to a higher standard. It is like playing with NBA players and now seeing my game improve a lot than if I just played on the street or with Lowe level players.

    ASSIGNMENT 1: LOST

Hidden agendas- the whole show of LOST IS full of hidden agenda. One example is groups and the other is in the lives of the people themselves.

In the group-when some of the group goes off as a group and sees something that is unexplainable- They saw a polar bear and they decide it is better not to tell the majority of people who might freak out.

Competition- The Character of SAWYER, put is clear as he ends of going to blows with more than one character and have physical grab sessions of possessions from the plane. He says it out loud that some people are living in “Civilization” and he is living in the “Wild”.

Conspiracy- Early on we hear something that doesn’t make sense and has us thinking, why has a signal been playing for 16 and no one turned it off! And what happened to the other people who crashed before the crash victims ?

Secrets -As we see all the lives of the characters we see they all are keeping secrets. Briefly early on the US MARSHAL is suggesting his prison is “ONE OF A KIND” that his prisoner might be innocent.

Deception- I think KATE with her not knowing who the dying US Marshall is and explaining that, “He was seated next to me,” and who she really is a prisoner of said Marshall. And not just a “traveler.”

Wound-The character of the “tortured” Korean housewife who is fold not to interact others and gets “chastised” for having a top button undone. And to keep away from others unless her husband can see her.

Secret Identity -The character has a great example with his life. He has been paralyzed from the waste down for the last 4 years but when we wakes from the plane crash he can suddenly walk.

    ASSIGNMENT 2 SHOW STIGMA 2619

    1. For your Inner Circle characters, fill in any of the Intrigue items that apply.

    • Character Name: BRUCE

    • Role: the humanoid alien who is sent to Earth.

    • Hidden agendas: to retrieve the lost tech. Only the tech might gain him his home planet but cost countless planets across the universe.

    • Competition: the agents who are tasked with finding unusual items or people that the government and or police don’t want known.

    • Conspiracies: the tech itself may not be just lost but as in stolen.

    • Secrets: the mysterious woman how is launching a wave of crimes.

    When is she doing it?

    • Deception: I started to think as my characters are revealed that the

female officer has encountered this situation before in her father’s

    letters about a mysterious woman.

    • Wound: Again, I was thinking on the surface everyone was going to be

wounded in some way. And it would be an onion situation; people present one thing and then as we spend time with them we see there is much more below the surface.

    • Secret Identity: We already have a mysterious woman who is

unleashing the tech but each of the characters having a secret identity

like the female agent really working for another agency of the bosses

of Bruce himself while chasing him as an Earth agent.

ASSIGNMENT 2 SHOW #2 THE KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K

    1. For your Inner Circle characters, fill in any of the Intrigue items that apply.

    • Character Name: KEN

    • Role: A frienemy of the main person who has been kidnapped.

    • Hidden agendas: everyone, not only Ken have hidden agendas to keep Casey’s support coming or to bury a secret.

    • Competition: Ken vs. other people like Mallory who might like to solve the mystery of where Casey is and get special treatment. But so far in the story everyone is working together.

    • Conspiracies: Casey may have kidnapped himself and wants to see the loyalty of those around him. It would be a brilliant move.

    • Secrets: Who are the people who kidnapped Casey and what do they want?

    • Deception: the caterers who posed as staff but really kidnapped Casey and paid an actor to stand in his place.

    • Wound: I haven’t uncovered any but there is bound to be some in our characters and we can start with Mallory’s character.

    • Secret Identity: I like the idea of someone at the party who is trying to find out who kidnapped Casey is actually in on the heist as a safe guard against being caught.

WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS ASSIGNMENT- I LEARNED THAT I CAN TAKE THESE NEW QUESTIONS AND DIVE DEEPER WITH MY SHOWS AND SEE WHAT IS LACKING OR HASN’T BEEN ASKED AND ASK THOSE QUESTIONS USING THIS MODEL. I ALSO DIDN’T CONSIDER MY CHARACTERS THIS DEEPLY, SO I WILL HAVE TO GO BACK AND ADD MORE LAYERS TO THEIR CHARACTERS, MOTIVATIONS AND REASON THEY ARE GOING TO INTRIGUE MY AUDIENCES.

    ASSIGNMENT #3 AUGUST 22 2021

Subject line: Ron Reid Jr Engaging Main Characters

    SHOW: LOST CHARACTER: JACK

    THE ENGAGING CHARACTER MODEL

What makes a lead characters engaging on multiple levels?

    A. Role in the show: He is leading others but fighting his own demons.<div>

    B. Unique Purpose / Expertise: He is a doctor amongst survivors of a plane crash. So, he is pretty important.

    C. Intrigue: What is secret beneath the surface? Why was he on the plane. And what was he doing before? I am starting to think that everyone on this plane was running away from something or starting their lives again.

    D. Moral Issue: What moral boundaries are they crossing? He wouldn’t let a man die as a doctor. He saw it was his duty to keep someone alive who was inevitably going to die.

    E. Unpredictable: What will they do next? He didn’t care if a woman considered dangerous was with them. He said everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

    F. Empathetic: Why do we care? He really goes out of his way to care for people and always wants to head into danger to save others. A doctor and an adventurer.

    </div>

    ASSIGNMENT 2: show #1 SIGMA 2619 character:

Now, do the process with your show.

    1. Tell us the journey of your show. A humanoid alien is tasked with bringing back some new kind of tech or people or his home planet will die. AND he has a limited time to do it.

    BRUCE -main character

UNIQUE PURPOSE. The main character who is a fish out of water who doesn’t know who what drives humans to do the right thing. MORAL ISSUE, he doesn’t have one. But he doesn’t come out with guns blazing. He wants to make an alliance but is trying to know who to trust. So, he is coming to get what he needs and save his planet/home world. HE HAS HIS OWN SKILLS BUT IS STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO TO TRUST AND HOW HUMANS CAN BE TRUSTED.

2 AGENTS We have the two agents tasked with finding what is going on. Only they are not your normal agents. Just think of a MEN IN BLACK type of agency. ONE AGENT WILL BE BY THE BOOK AND LOOKING TO SKY-ROCKET HIS CAREER. THE SECOND AGENT WILL BE MORE OF THE BAD ASS BUT IS CARRYING SOME BAGGAGE THAT SHE TRIES TO KEEP HIDDEN. THE AGENTS WILL BE EMPATHETIC BECAUSE THEY WILL ALWAYS BE A STEP OR TWO BEHIND THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN. BRUCE IS ALSO TRYING TO CATCH THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN BUT WANTS THE TECH AS WELL.

THE MYSTERIOUS woman who is controlling people to test this tech and its capabilities. We have the girl who has her mind transformed into a killer. She might be the first test subject who had not only her mind transformed but went out to hurt people and be controlled by this mysterious woman. We have to ask, was she wronged? Did she stumble upon the tech or is she the one who stole it? And is she and alien as well?

SNOWY -The girl caught in the middle after having her mind controlled and being used to test out some new tech that enables her to kill or disable others with supreme fighting techniques she didn’t have before. We feel for her cause she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. She will be a girl who was searching for some answers in life and now that search will have to take more time as she deals with why she was used and if she can find a way to take some revenge on who was using her and in turn find some meaning in life instead of being a spectator.

ASSIGNMENT SHOW #2 THE KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K

    1. Tell us the journey of your show. I think only HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER WAS A SIMILAR SHOW LIKE THIS.

WE HAVE VARIOUS PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT MOTIVES TO FIND THE KID THAT WAS KIDNAPPED AT HIS OWN PARTY AND NO ONE EVEN SAW IT HAPPENING. But everyone has secrets they want to keep hidden and Casey has told people that their secrets might come out if he was ever kidnapped or harmed. Keeping people’s secrets was his “special” insurance policy.

    2. Who are the main characters that will sell your show?

THE VICTIM OF THE KIDNAPPING CASEY K IS LIKE A SIDE CHARACTER WHILE THOSE AROUND HIM ARE LOOKING FOR HIM TAKE THE CENTER STAGE.

KEN-STEPS RIGHT UP TO AGREE TO LOOK FOR CASEY WHO WAS KIDNAPPED BY THE CATERERS AT HIS ANNUAL PARTY. BENJAMIN WAS HELPED OUT BY CASEY FOR HIS COMPANY THAT TANKING. AND CASEY CAME IN WITH HIS ANGEL INVESTMENT BUT REQUIRES A FAVOR AND COMING TO THIS ANNUAL PARTY IS PART OF THAT FAVOR.

ON THE OUTSIDE HE SEEMS CONCERNED BUT LATER WE CAN KNOW HIS FEARS LOOKING FOR HIS GOLDEN GOOSE VS. HIS GENUINE HEART.

MALORY– SHE COMES OFF AS A TROUBLED SOUL. CASEY HAS BEEN HELPING HER FROM A TROUBLED PAST OF LOVERS, BAD BFS AND JOBS THAT ALWYAS FIND HER IN DEBT. THERE IS NOTHING ROMANTIC WITH HER BUT CASEY HELPS HER LIKE A CHARITY CASE. BUT MALORY HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE SOMETHING GREAT IF SHE CAN STAY ON THE RIGHT PATH AND STAY AWAY FROM DEPENDING ON MEN WHO ONLY WANT HER FOR MONEY OR OTHER THINGS.

ROGER AND YUKAI BOTH INVITED TO THE PARTY APPEAR AS A COUPLE OR REALLY CLOSE FRIENDS. THEY CLEARLY DON’T LIKE CASEY AND SEE HIM AS AN OPPORTUNISTS WHO USES HIS MONEY TO CONTROL PEOPLE. AND THEY WANT TO HELP FOR MORE SELFISH REASONS; LIKE THEY SCREWED UP FINANCIALLY AND EMOTIONALLY BUT MUST MARCH TO THE TUNE OF CASEY K. AND COME TO HIS ANNUAL PARTIES AS AN OBLIGATION.

THEY FEEL THEIR BACKS ARE AGAINST THE WALLS AND VOLUNTEER TO FIND HIM TO KEEP THEIR SECRETS BURIED. AND LIKE ALL OF THESE CHARACTERS THEY WANT TO KEEP EITHER SECRETS BURIED OR THEIR GOLDEN GOOSE LAYING EGGS.

    MINOR CHARACTERS

The KIDNAPPERS– A SOPHISTICATED BUNCH WHO ARE IN CHARGE OF THE PARTY AND DO A SWITCHAROO AND TAKE CASEY OUT OF THE PARTY AND HIRE AN ACTOR TO STAND IN FOR HIM AT HIS OWN MASK PARTY. WHO ARE THESE KIDNAPPERS AND IS IT SOMETHING CASEY DID OR ARE THEY WORKING FOR SOMEONE?

CASEY’S GF-IS SHE A ONE-TRICK PONY OR WILL SHE BE HELPFUL IN GETTING CASEY BACK?

THE HACKER– HE IS SOMEONE KNOWN BY ONE OR MOST OF THE CHARACTERS AS THE BEST AT FINDING ANYTHING DIGITAL AND IT IS DECIDED THAT HE WOULD BE BETTER TO APPROACH HIM AND MORE EFFICIENT THAN THE POLICE CAUSE HE WON’T ASK ANY QUESTIONS AND FOCUS ON CASEY AND NOT THE BACKGROUNDS OF THE GUESTS. AND IF THE POLICE DO A DEEP DIVE AND NOTICE EVERYONE WAS DEEP IN DEBT OR BAILED OUT OF JAIL A NUMBER OF TIMES THEY MIGHT FIND THAT ANYONE COULD HAVE A MOTIVE TO KIDNAP AND OR MURDER CASEY AT THE PARTY.

THE BIGGEST QUESTION IS WHO WILL ASK FOR MONEY FOR CASEY AND TO WHOM WILL THEY ASK? IT WON’T BE HIS FAMILY;, HE BANKROLLS HIS FAMILY’S LIFESTYLE.

    ASSIGNMENT 1: BW AUGUST 19

Subject line: Ron Three Circles of Characters

“What I learned doing this assignment is how to rethink about my stories and how best to bring their foundations out more before I write. And I am already thinking about the characters, their motivations and what will be driving my stories more, their engines from which I will create a better story than if I had just outlined, written and rewrote. There is a lot of meat in this.

    Supplemental: LOST EPISODE 2-

I watched the characters develop more not because they talked but because they got more and more situations thrown at them. And I will have to see how I can do this to the shows I am working on developing. But I may have to go back and fine tune more stories after taking that 23 steps in rewriting podcast as well. Lots of work to do, but it will help producers stories and characters they can’t stop reading about and that is my goal.

    SHOW: LOST

    A. Main Characters Circle:

Jack, Kate, Sayid, Sawyer and Charles .

    B. Connected Circle:

The Korean couple, The African American man and his son, the older man with scar, the brother and sister and Hugo.

    C. Environment Circle:

The pregnant lady, THE Korean man and scared older man and random people on the plane.

Give us a quick list for each circle.

    ASSIGNMENT 2:

    1. Create the three circles of characters for your show.

    2. Give us a one sentence description of each of the Main Characters.

    Show 1 SIGMA 2619

TAG LINE-A humanoid alien is tasked with finding a tech that has been used on earth to alter minds of those who come under it’s powers. The humanoid comes from a desolate planet that will be destroyed even more if he doesn’t retrieve it by a set time.

    Main Characters

Bruce-a humanoid alien who feels powerless sent to earth to retrieve a device that helps change the thoughts of people.

THE WHISPERER – a mysterious figure who is using the power to control people. We don’t know if she is good or bad.

Special Agents tasked to find out what is going on.

Agent one-ambitious to climb this MEN IN BLACK agency.

Agent two-barely keeping it together but is a no-nonsense girl who often will throw the first punch and has a funny thing to say.

    CONNECTED CIRCLE

-Laurilee the first victim of this device who is picked because of her beauty to pull of an assassination.

    C. Environment Circle:

    Bankrobbers-

Randomly chosen people-chosen to rob a bank and when caught they won’t have cognition of who or what they have done or seen. It seems skills might be inserted into them.

Show 2 KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K

TAGLINE A very centered character CASEY K as he is known throws these Annual parties and invites people who has surrounded himself with who love and fear and even hate him to come to his masked party. It is a checklist of people he has helped or who he helped out of life-threatening events back to solid ground. All Cases asks is to be around if he needs a favor and to show up at his annual parties. Like a puppy being paraded around it feels like for some.

    MAIN CHARACTERS

MALARY-A GEN Z girl who always gets caught up with the wrong crowd. Casey bailed her out of too many jams financial and love.

KEN-Casey funded him develop some apps when no one would and now he owes Casey.

YUKAI -still fleshing out her character. Casey has people either love or hate him but hey must come to one of his parties.

ROGER -Also not developed yet or assigned yet but will be part of the group requested by Casey to come to one of his events.

    CONNECTED CIRCLE

-the KIDNAPPERS-we don’t know a heck of a lot about them except they pretended to be event planners to get close to the victim who throws one of his annual parties. They are well organized and maybe directly connected or not a victim of Casey business expansion.

CASEY-He is the main victim of the kidnapping but not the main character

    ENVIRONMENTAL CIRCLE

-Yumai-not sure yet her role. She might be coming with one of the mains.

Elaine-also not developed yet but invited indirectly.

Benjamin- Also invited by Casey to be at this event. He might be a support for now.

    Assignment one Module 1

    TV SHOW: LOST

<font face=”inherit”>What I learned from this </font>assignment<font face=”inherit”> is there are man ways to analyze a show I never considered. And I see the connection of this show to a BW list. I think I started to see the parts that go into a BW show. And I am glad I did. </font>

    Outline of the show

-PASSENGERS ON A PLANE CRASH FROM MIXED BACKGROUNDS ARE STRANDED ON A REMOTE ISLAND.

-AFTER A FEW DAYS ON THE BEACH WE SEE WHO AND WHAT IS MOTIVATING EVERYONE ON THE PLANE WHO SURVIVED: THEIR FEARS, WORRIES AND HOW THEY ARE COPING IN THIS NEW SITUATION.

we meet our first character as the show opens up.

-Jack, a selfless doctor emerges and starts organizing and helping others.

Another character Kate is introduced shortly after as she reluctantly helps sew up Jack and forms a friendship

-night time sounds of trees falling terrifies the people still awake that survived on their first night

-the people who survive slowly recount their memories of the plane crashing what little they can remember. It is many view points or an ensemble cast.

Action starts to happen or pacing begins.

-one group of 3 people (Jack, Kate and Charley) decide to look for the cockpit while everyone stays back.

-the group of 3 find the cockpit.

-they find a pilot barely alive and he recounts what happened from his point of view that rescuers are looking in the wrong direction and area.

-after they revive the pilot and have the special walkie there is a sound and shadows over the cockpit window.

-then suddenly the pilot is snatched and blood spills on the window and they run out of the plane with the walkie that doesn’t work for their lives as the planes fall from the upright position down.

-we find out later that the character Charlie has a drug problem he is hiding.

-We meet an array of people who have their own dynamic-from a Korean couple who’s husband asks his wife to stay close by him and to talk to no one.

-we also meet an over-weight guy who is helping everyone out.

-another scene is showing two people blaming each other because of race for the plane going down (Sayid and Sawyer).

-it is a large ensemble cast that slowly realize they have to trust or at least work together if they are going to survive.

-their transmitter is broken and one guy Sayid (from Iran) is trying to fix it to help send a message out. His suggestion once it is fixed that they need to go to higher ground. This time an array of about 7 people go off to look for higher ground.

-while out looking for higher spot they encounter a polar bear until one unruly passenger brandishes a gun and kills a polar bear,

5 Star Points for that show.

    Big Picture Hooks

Ask this: What is the big hook of this show? Trying to figure out what will happen next. Where they go, we want to follow.

Amazing and Intriguing Characters. All of the actors we meet from the doctor and families. They all have amazing revealing characters and we want to see how will they interact with others. <div>

Ask this: What makes these main characters intriguing and interesting? We get flashes of their back stories and we want to know if they same situations that they all seem to be escaping from has paid off.

Empathy / Distress For the fugitive girl, will she be redeemed. Or the pregnant mother will her baby be safe. Or the Charles, who is taking drugs, will he be okay or at least stop taking drugs.

Ask this: What situation causes us to feel both empathy and distress for this character?

When the fugitive Kate was forced to help sew the doctor’s injury we really can understand her not wanting to help in this way.

    Layers / Open Loops

Ask this: What questions are created by this first episode that can only be answered by watching the entire season?

We want to know will they survive the Island, each other and be able to hid their secrets from each other and be the new people they are projecting to other people?

    Inviting Obsession

Ask this: How does this pilot create the need to see every single episode?

We start to care about the characters like Kwon who is helping by feeding people from food he caught in the sea. Will his character change and will he allow his wife to speak to others.

Will the father with his young son be able to redeem himself as it looks like they don’t get along fully.

Will Kate be able to keep up her secret that she was the prisoner and be rescued and stat a new life?

Will the doctor Jack be able to start a new life after his mistakes as a doctor ?

Will the pregnant girl be able to have her healthy baby despite her circumstances.

Will the self-absorbent Claire have any empathy for others than just herself?

Will Sayid and Sawyer be able to make peace and not kill each other?

Will Hugo find himself useful to others and himself?

    </div>

    1. Name? Ron Reid Jr.

    2. How many scripts you’ve written? 7+, including TV production and 15+ awards, screenings in the USA, Europe and Asia. But I consider myself, “still learning!” to get better at my craft.

    3. What you hope to get out of the class? To keep myself on the edge of a changing industry and improve my writing to a level that a producer or actor will want to work with me and my work.

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? A lot of people hearing or meeting me in Europe and Asia and even Americans think I am from the States, but I am Canadian and was raised on American TV.

We look forward to working with you all!

“I agree to the terms of this release form.”

If you agree to the terms of the release form, then you can post your assignments into the group and your cohort can give feedback on them.

Also, if you don’t agree to this group confidentiality agreement, you’ll still need to sign an agreement that says you will keep the strategies, teleconferences, communications, lessons, and models of the class confidential.

    GROUP RELEASE FORM

As a member of this group, I agree to the following:

    1. That I will keep the processes, strategies, teleconferences, communications, lessons, and models of the class confidential, and that I will NOT share any of this program either privately, with a group, posting online, writing articles, through video or computer programming, or in any other way that would make those processes, teleconferences, communications, lessons, and models of the class available to anyone who is not a member of this class.

    2. That each writer’s work here is copyrighted and that writer is the sole owner of that work. That includes this program which is copyrighted by Hal Croasmun. I acknowledge that submission of an idea to this group constitutes a claim of and the recognition of ownership of that idea.

I will keep the other writer’s ideas and writing confidential and will not share this information with anyone without the express written permission of the writer/owner. I will not market or even discuss this information with anyone outside this group.

    3. I also understand that many stories and ideas are similar and/or have common themes and from time to time, two or more people can independently and simultaneously generate the same concept or movie idea.

    4. If I have an idea that is the same as or very similar to another group member’s idea, I’ll immediately contact Hal and present proof that I had this idea prior to the beginning of the class. If Hal deems them to be the same idea or close enough to cause harm to either party, he’ll request both parties to present another concept for the class.

    5. If you don’t present proof to Hal that you have the same idea as another person, you agree that all ideas presented to this group are the sole ownership of the person who presented them and you will not write or market another group member’s ideas.

    6. Finally, I agree not to bring suit against anyone in this group for any reason, unless they use a substantial portion of my copyrighted work in a manner that is public and/or that prevents me from marketing my script by shopping it to production companies, agents, managers, actors, networks, studios or any other entertainment industry organizations or people.

This completes the Group Release Form for the class.

    Hello Jack Sherry,

Regarding your Ted Lasso story idea. What about a barrister or lawyer being sent to upend a law firm by a partner with the same type of personality as Ted Lasso but dealt with wills and estates being put in a firm that deals with defending many clients accused of corrupt things as an idea closer to home for you in your pilot? It would be original and within your wheelhouse more.

But any choice is up to you!

    Welcome to the group!!

    Happy writing,

    I hear you Deborah,

I also worked in the food industry for many years. I didn’t have an NDA to sign. So, all my memories are intact to share or develop or be inspired from. That is all we can do is tell the stories we know. I was lucky as well to have a few pictures and a lot of active friends from there on FB still.

I wouldn’t worry about the names. As Hal said there was one lady with a finished story who after taking the course went back and revamped her story again. It is like doing a trip or an experience again, a do-over!!

All the best in your rewriting and writing. We are all being given a 2nd chance,

I like your assessment of LOST, also my assignment. We put our characters in different circles but that is alright.

And I think you will have enough characters in your TV show (I’m still developing mine).

We’ll get better as we get most experience writing, reading and so-fourth.

    All the best Deborah,

    Wow Tracey,

It looks like you did the right thing and left your job to follow the passion you have been doing already with your 5 books. You have a wide variety of accomplishments and hope that means you have a variety of things to contribute.

And hope your historical script gets into the right hands in the future.

We all didn’t imagine we would be where we are today but imagine after this course and Hal’s voice intro toward where we we will be later in the year or next year?

Looking forward to learning with you and celebrating as you bust out of your writers shell into the writing juggernaut you were meant to be.

    Hello DEB,

And I won’t think you are a dumb ass. We are all on the same level playing field for this course. I also love Ted Lasso and hope to write something as binge-worthy as that show as well.

Great you have written some scripts already.

I am sure you will do many more great things when this course is done.

I might have a lot of accomplishments but I am still learning. I am looking to going beyond what I have done and keeping ahead of what is yet to come. All of us are starting off at the same playing level. So, all of us are able to have the potential to do so much more.
