What I learned from this assignment is to break down your characters on a deeper level to help the audience understand and relate to those on the screen.
Role of the Protagonist:
Hero/Fighter – Garvin will save the Student from being killed. He
has military experience and retired as a General. Although all seems that
he retired on good standing, the truth is much different.Role of the Antagonist:
Villain/Authority: New General (NG) will do anything to keep his “experiments”
for the government under wraps. He knows Garvin well and replaced him when
Garvin “retired” since NG set him up.Other characters:
Main Supporting characters:
1) The Student who is kidnapped from the classroom after what he saw while driving by an army base.
2) 2 graduate students who have been through basic training. They know the military “lingo”.
Minor roles:
1) The NG’s soldiers
Background characters: Many extras
Genre: Drama/Action
Lead character:
Role in the story: Professor Garvin <div>
Age range and Description: mid 60’s, proper posture, tall, intimidating
Internal Journey: Trying to adjust to retirement without his wife. Has
PTSD and relives some times in war when a certain noise is heard. For
example, a car backfiring will trigger gunfire in his head. He feels like a
“fish out of water” when trying to defend his student.External Journey: Garvin puts aside any doubts as a General while
the situation unfolds and saves the student and brings justice to the NG
since the truth has been exposed.Motivation: To prove he still can complete a mission successfully
Wound: His PTSD
Mission/Agenda: To save the Student
Secret: TBD
What makes them special? His ability to take control of a dire
situation and remain calm</div>

Hi everyone! My name is Sherry and I have written 4 screenplays in 10 years. I did take a lot of time away from writing to get my bachelors degree in healthcare. What I am looking forward to in this class is keeping me writing and not making excuses.
Hope you have a great day! 🙂

What I learned doing this assignment is to define the arc of the characters including their internal and external struggles and triumphs.
Who is your Hero and what is their Character Arc that represents a transformation?
Internal
Journey: Professor Garvin misses his wife of 35 years. He also is
suffering from PTSD from his time in the military. <div>External
Journey: Professor Garvin and 2 other students come up with a plan to save
another student from “disappearing”.<div>
What are the Old Ways and New Ways?
Old Ways: Garvin feels lost and cannot see past the current situation. He feels that he’s not good enough to save his student.
New Ways: Garvin uses his military experience to outsmart the new General and his troop.
