Sie Khalil — Horror Plot — #4

What I Learned: I don’t like outlines. However, this work forced me to look at the whole overall picture and try to make it all make more sense. A string line filled with more continuity.

Concept: Two brothers seek revenge on the men that hurt/killed their father and force them to pay the ultimate price.

Act 1

Establish Evil: The horror comes from both sides: the hunted and the hunter. Two members of the KKK beat and hang a couple of young black men. While in the process, they are spotted by our two brother’s father. They shoot him as he tries to run off. He is left for dead. The two brothers spot a man hunting in the territory; they throw an axe that splits his head in half.

Connect Characters: Willy and Josh at home having dinner with their family. They seem like a well-adjusted happy family.

Characters Warned: The young eager Josh is trying to make a name for himself and is warned not to kill so close to home; it causes too much heat in their backyard.

Denial: Josh scoffs at the idea that they will be found out or that there would even be any consequences, since the sheriff is part of the clan.

Safety Taken Away: The bodies of the two young black men are cut down and in their place Mark’s body swings.

Nature of Beast: After Mark’s body is discovered, the clan go on the war path, falling right into the brothers’ trap.

Act 2

Isolated: The clan calls a meeting of all their members. They meet at their special place deep in the woods. It is there that the monster brothers strike.

Killed: As they leave the cabin to find Mark’s killer, Willy’s head is severed from his body in full view of his clan. They retreat in fear to the safety of their cabin.

Full Pursuit: One by one, each member of the clan is killed in a variety of horrible ways.

Terrorized: The terror they have inflicted comes back to bite them in the ass. Death comes calling and there is no chance for them to escape.

Act 3

Fight to Death: They set out to escape in pairs and fight their way back home. Blood soaks the forest.

Hysteria: Several end up back at the cabin after they try to escape. They devise another plan for escape.

Thrilling Escape: After everyone is killed and the only ones left are Josh and the sheriff, the brothers toy with them and force them back into the same area they found their father barely alive.

Resolution: Josh is forced to watch as the sheriff is sliced in half. Josh is hysterical. The brothers take his wallet and then point the way out of the forest. He begins to run, only to fall into a bear trap. Josh falls next to a sleeping bear. The bear opens his eyes. We pull away and hear the eye piercing screams as Josh is being eaten alive.

Wait: It’s not over. The brothers appear outside of Willy and Josh’s home.

The end.

Sie Khalil — Character for Horror — Lesson #3

What I Learned: To dig deeper, figure out the characters before I drop them into a situation. Give them a spine before I let them walk onto the page. This work helped me define my characters and situation more.

Concept/Group: Two brothers seek revenge on the local KKK chapter for the brutal attack on their father by a couple of their younger members.

Dying Pattern: We see the initial murder of the first victim that enters their space by chance. Wrong place. wrong time situation. The local members of the KKK are hunted and killed one at a time. Blood, decapitation, and gore, is just the start of it…

IDENTITIES: KKK Leader: Willy – born again, judgmental and critical, loud mouth with a big stick. His way is the only way, no ands, ifs or buts.

Josh – Willy’s 20-Year-Old Son: Much quieter than his father. Physically not as strong as his father, but smarter and more ruthless. He wants to step out of his father’s shadow and lead his own chapter.

Chris – Willy’s High School Classmate and Right Hand: Loyal to a fault, will go in blind because he is nothing more than an obedient servant. He’s a family man and a good provider.

Mark – Josh’s Best Friend and Partner in Crime: They are like two pees in a pod and want nothing more than to show up the older guys. Acts without thinking sometimes and that action gets him in trouble one too many times. It was Chris and him that attacked the two brother’s father. That hasty action is what gets them all killed.

Trevor (30s) – Chris’s Right Hand: Runs the local gym, muscle head with a flair for the dramatic. He’s the strongest of the group — tough, however, is a skill he hasn’t acquired. His motto, “Fists can resolve everything”.

Butch – A Chris Want-to-Be. He whines a lot and has to have things just right. He is too soft for this sort of thing.

There are about ten or more members; however they will just be there for the body count.

Sie Khalil — Terrifying Monster

What I learned: To pursue the rabbit down the hole and detail what he shows you along the way. Even if it makes you vomit your own guts.

Monster: Two simple backwood brothers that have superhuman strength.

Terror: They can kill with one blow. They make homemade weapons that make you cringe, such as metal elbow pads that can plunge straight through your eye and exit the back of your skull… etc

Mystery: Even though they are huge, you can’t hear them sneak up on you until it’s too late and your blood is feeding the earth.

Appliance: They make a variety of masks that give them the illusion of death reincarnate.

Rules: No children. If they don’t kill their victims with one blow, they are allowed to live. They don’t leave the confines of their own patch of land.

Mythology: Their mother died giving birth to them. Raised by their father, they value the bond of family and what it means to watch each other’s backs.

Hello, and good luck to all of you. I’ve read about each of you fascinating creatures and it’s nice to be in a group full of writers wanting to scare the shit out of people.

I’ve written several screenplays, several pilots, a couple books, short stories, poetry, songs and a bunch of stuff I’m not sure how to describe. I just love to get words out of my hard skull and onto soft flexible paper . I hope to learn as much as possible as I attempt to write my second script in this genre. I loved horror since I was a kid and for most of my, adult life. However, somewhere along the way I decided I didn’t like it anymore. Maybe because of the bad dreams that made me wet. Stop! I know what you’re thinking, but you’d be wrong. I’m talking about sweat. I would wake up drenched. Anyway, I decided it’s time to get wet again. I have a short film making its way through the festival circuit right now. I’ve got all my body parts crossed. Hope two see you all on the scary side. B well!

Till Death — Starring Megan Fox & Eoin Macken

What I learned: I don’t usually watch films and report on them. I watch and make mental notes of what I like and don’t like for my own knowledge. This exercise pushes my mind to think in terms of improving the craft of discussing the story and I can see merit in terms of it helping the way I craft a story.

Concept: Can a controlling, unfaithful, hard-nose husband forgive his cheating wife or will one of them end up in a bloody mess?

Convention: The husband plans the perfect night for their anniversary. His premeditated plan of taking his wife to their far away cabin ends in a blood bath. He handcuffs her to him and after she wakes, he blows a hole in his head as she witnesses the gruesome mess. He spatters his brain and blood all over her face. He empties the house so she has no tools, no gas in the vehicle, and destroys any form of communication. She is forced to drag his corpse around the house and on the frozen ground.

When the man she cheated on shows up, they are surprised to learn that it wasn’t her that texted him, but her dead husband. Her husband hired the man who attacked his wife and helped put him away for years prior to seeking revenge for both of them.

Terrorize: The monster here is her husband and the man he hired to kill her.

Isolation: The story mostly takes place in one location. It is a desolate frozen Iceland far away and without any neighbors.

Death: Several people die in a variety of ways.

High Tension: There are many reversals and pulsing moments that keep you, at times, on the edge of your seat. Kill or be killed.

Departure: She finally has to butcher her dead husband’s hand to break free of the chains that bind her to save herself.

Moral Statement: Don’t ever trust anyone, because even your spouse might want to see you without your head.

What made the movie great? I wouldn’t say it was a great movie. However, I would say that once it got going, it was definitely worth watching. It was filled with some nice twists and turns, although I could pick out some very stupid moments. Overall, I would give it three stars.
