Taj's super scary monster

I learned doing this assignment that a lot more thought goes into crafting a compelling monster than a “monster in a cave”.

Give us a few sentences for each of the following for your monster:

Terror: The monster lives in a giant cave system that is partly underwater. The victims have fallen into a pit cave that begins to fill with water, bringing them closer and closer to escape, but also closer to the monster.

Mystery: The monster is between them and daylight. The trapped people don’t have any weapons or a means of communicating with the outside, so how will they survive the monster and escape the cave?

Fear-Provoking Appearance: It is a monstrous nautiloid with a gnarled and twisted carapace, dozens of tentacles, and a beak that can sever a man’s torso with one choompp!

Rules: Because of its size, the monster can only reach the victims through a narrow passage high in the shaft, so it lies in wait as the slowly rising water brings the victims close enough to grab them with slender tendrils.

Mythology: Unknown (or possible idea: Akin to the Kraken in Clash of the Titans, where ancient human sacrifices were made to appease the monster).
