Wade Jehowski’s Horror Outline Version 1

What I learned is that these separate lessons are making my story more coherent.

    EXT – CAMPSITE/TENT – DAY

Luke is the Senior Patrol Leader of his troop. He is being reprimanded by the Scout Leader that the ax yard isn’t clean. He agrees to stay behind and organize the camp site. The rest of the troop leaves to do their daily activities. There is a small montage of Luke organizing/cleaning up the campsite. He cleans out the ax yard, refills the water, cleans up dirty plates etc.

He finishes up and goes into his tent. There is someone in the woods watching him. Luke here’s someone knocking on the tent door. He sees a familiar face. We don’t see the “Monster” yet. We see Luke getting repeatedly stabbed in his tent. Samuel begins to drag out the body, but hears people talking in the distance. He leaves the body that is lifeless and almost out of the entry way of the tent entrance. He drops the body and walks into the forest. We see his hands grabbing leaves and cleaning off any blood. We still do not see his face. The audience sees a sign that leads to a river and Samuel’s back is to the camera as he heads into that direction.

    EXT – RIVER – DAY

We see a group of boys standing next to each other. They are being told about how to swamp a canoe. If they succeed, they get their Canoeing merit badge.

    The group consists of:

Adam-He is the person that keeps the different personalities working together cohesively. (Victim)

Peter-He is Adam’s best friend. He is very sheepish and cannot make decisions on his own. He lacks confidence. (Victim)

Matthew-He is considered a nerd and very stand offish. He loves the Boy Scouts because he is very helpful with the troop duties. (Victim)

Noah-He is an Eagle Scout who assists with running the summer camp. He is very strong and cocky. He is in charge of overlooking the group when they have to “swamp their canoe”. (Victim)

Caleb-He lacks emotion and doesn’t get scared. He looks and acts perfect, but is ultimately bored.

The boys swamp the canoe. They are getting bit by horse flys, but soldier on and complete the task. They each offer their own assistance in different ways. We see a respect formed between the crew. They paddle back into the shore and are told by the life guard to grab dinner at the Mess Hall.

EXT – CAMP TRAIL – DAY

The boys are talking and goofing on each other. Noah is giving the most comments, but there is a bond of them completing a task.

Matthew has to pee and wanders into the woods. He is hit in the leg by an arrow. He tries to get up again and screams. The crew runs towards the screams to see what is happening. Matthew is shot with another arrow. They try to save them but are scared off as the arrow’s get closer to them. They hear screaming and are terrified.

    EXT – WOODS – DAY

We see Samuel drag Matthew’s body to a camouflaged hatch and see him throw the body inside the bunker.

    EXT – TRAIL – DAY

The crew are running and out of the breath. They stop to catch their breath and we start to see their personalities mesh.

    They approach the Mess Hall.

INT – MESS HALL – DAY

We see Hannah for the first time. She is an attractive College Student who volunteers serving food and watching over the Mess Hall. It’s a summer job. All of the males love her because she is one of the few females on the premise.

The crew runs to the Scout Leader and describe what they saw. Noah is looking around the Mess Hall looking for his brother Luke. He is concerned. In midst of the boys trying to explain what happens. A camp wide alarm goes off. Everyone is instructed not leave.

    (The screen fades to black)

    INT – MESS HALL – DAY/NIGHT

We return to a bunch of bored kids and adults waiting in the Mess Hall.

David and Sarah are brought in to interrogate the staff, volunteers and campers. They are very pompous and bored. They instruct everyone that they will be “interviewed”. Noah catches a glance of a body being wheeled to the ambulance.

    EXT – MESS HALL – DAY/NIGHT

Noah runs up to the gurney and unzips the bag while being pulled back. It is Luke his brother. We see a very angry look on Noah’s face while he tears up. He walks towards the Mess Hall door.

    INT – MESS HALL – DAY/NIGHT

Noah returns to the table. Condolences are given to him. The adults try to calm him down. The adults leave and Noah looks at his crew.

“We have to bring this fucker down”. We again learn about their personalities as they contemplate sneaking out. Hannah walks up to Noah and hugs him. They talk for a bit. The whole time we see Samuel, who also helps with serving food watching them. He sees Noah whisper to Hannah, they both have had a camp crush on each other. He patiently watches each member of the crew exit and not return. The Mess Hall is chaos and no one knows what to do.

One by one they leave the table to use the bathroom and slowly sneak off into the woods.

    FLASHBACK SEQUENCE – INT – SAMUEL’S HOME

Samuel is a young boy hiding under his bed. We can hear his parents murdering his siblings.

    EXT – TRAIL – DAY/NIGHT

We begin to see a montage of the Interrogator’s questioning the crew. This scene allows to get to know more about the “Crew”. We learn more about Hannah’s demeanor.

    EXT – TRAIL – NIGHT

The trail of blood brings the crew to the gun range. They follow the trail of blood and pass by the shotgun range. Samuel is watching them from a distance. He has a rifle in his hand. He shoots the shotgun in the air and they scatter.

He finds Caleb and beats him to death with the butt of the rifle. The crew looks for Caleb and begin to bicker. Hannah sets them straight. The crew decides to walk to the Mess Hall for safety.

    EXT – WOODS – NIGHT

We see Samuel push Caleb’s body down the hatch.

    INT – BUNKER – NIGHT

Samuel props up Caleb’s body on a comfortable chair next to Matthew. In the background is a home movie of Samuel’s family playing on repeat. The transition to the next scene is the camera following the power source to how a television can be powered underground. (Foreshadowing)

    INT – MAKESHIFT ROOM/TENT – NIGHT

We begin to see a montage of the Interrogator’s questioning other camp attendees. We notice Sarah rubbing David’s thigh and we see him rubbing her as well under the table.

INT – MESS HALL – NIGHT

The group returns to the Mess Hall and it is empty. They see a light in the kitchen and encounter Samuel boiling a large pot of water. He has on cooking mitts. They trust him because he is one of the older Eagle Scout Volunteers that works in the Mess Hall. They approach him and there is dialogue. Samuel asks Peter to get noodles and that he is preparing food for the distressed campers.

The rest of the crew goes into the Mess Hall to discuss what their next move is. Peter walks downstairs to get the supplies. Samuel goes down to the pantry with the pot of boiling water, shuts the door and scalds Peter. Samuel turns off the power and drags Peter’s body up the stairs. He turns off the electricity.

We see panic amongst the crew and decide to run to the shed to get weapons. Hannah has the key to the shed.

EXT – GROUNDSKEEPER SHED – NIGHT

There is only Hannah, Adam and Noah left. They rush to the ground keeper’s shed.

INT – MESS HALL – NIGHT

Samuel notices flashlights in the shed. He immediately walks towards the shed.

INT – GROUNDSKEEPER SHED – NIGHT

The crew is looking for weapons. Hannah grabs an ax. Noah grabs garden shears and Adam grabs bear spray. Samuel kicks down the door and attacked. He is very beaten up. He grabs a blow torch and burns Adam as he is being attacked. Adam is screaming and shoots Samuel in the face with bear spray. Samuel is partially blinded and waving the blow torch around. Hannah and Noah pick up Adam and carry him out of the shed.

EXT – THE WOODS – NIGHT

Hannah and Noah are desperately looking for water to help with Adam’s burns. Samuel is stumbling towards them trying to recover his vision.

Adam is yelling as Hannah and Noah are waving water onto his face. Noah wants revenge and they come up with a plan to kill Samuel (I’m still working on that part)

Towards the endpoint of the movie, Samuel is called to meet them in their makeshift interrogation office. He brings them a cup of coffee from the Mess Hall and mentions that he is getting coffee for the tired restless staff due to the murder. They drink the coffee and start choking. He grinded poison ivy into the blend.

Hannah wakes up and stumbles into the wilderness trying to find her location.

    EXT – WOODS – NIGHT

Hannah wakes up and stumbles into the wilderness trying find her location. She trips over a cable.

    INT – SAMUEL’S BUNKER – NIGHT

The home movies stop playing. Samuel begins to freak out. He crawls out of the hatch. Adam opens up his eyes. He is badly burnt. He crawls out of the hatch.

    EXT – WOODS – NIGHT

Adam climbs up the hatch to see Samuel strangling Hannah. He grabs the cable cord and strangles Samuel. Hannah grabs the pitchfork and scratches Samuel’s face. Samuel head butts Adam and grabs the pitchfork. Adam begins to talk to Samuel as if he is one of the brother’s that was murdered. He recalls a name from the home videos.

    Samuel runs into the woods.

(I’m still trying to craft my ending to properly end the movie)

EXT – MESS HALL – DAY

A summer later Samuel is in another state serving up food to a Boy Scout at summer camp. His face has multiple scars.

    Wade Jehowski’s Character Journey Track

What I learned in doing this assignment is that it’s important to give each character a role and to utilize that role throughout the movie to make people care.

    Luke

(Originally I was going to have his body found, but I’ve decided to create a murder scene)

Role-He is the only body found at the beginning of the movie. His role is to trigger the panic at the camp.

    Traits-He looks very innocent.

Fears-He is very conscientious. He fears disorder. He talks to the Patrol leader about cleaning up the ax yard and today’s schedule of events.

Wants/Needs-He asks three adults if the camp site looks nice. He needs adult approval. The adults leave and let him tidy up the camp on his own.

Likability-He is a very sweet kid and very likable. We see him tidy up the ax yard and make sure that all of the tent zippers are closed.

How they react under stress-He hears noises in the woods and it doesn’t bother him. He loves the idea that he is creating order and continues with his duties. Luke goes into his tent to get his canteen. He sees the “Monster” and smiles.

The following characters traits are shown in the Canoe Swamping Scene, it’s foreshadowing to their behaviors in stressful situations.

    Canoe Swamping is:

If your canoe capsizes (tips in the water) and fills up, this is called swamping a canoe. You will find that emptying it and getting back into the canoe is much more challenging if you’re in a river, especially a fast-moving one.

    Matthew

Role-During the canoe swamping scene. He doesn’t help his crew.

Traits-He is very timid and annoying.

Fears- He is very scared of the outside world. His parents forced him to go to Boy Scout Camp to become more confident.

Wants/Needs-He wants more self confidence and be noticed, but he is too scared to do so.

Likability-He is super annoying. Not likable at all.

How they react under stress-Does not react well to stress at all.

Relationship with other characters-Horrible, people find him really annoying.

    Caleb

Role-During the canoe swamping scene, he is constantly looking at the female life guard. He kind of half asses his role during the scene.

    Traits-He is very narcissistic.

    Fears-He strives to be perfect.

Wants/Needs-He comes from a wealthy family who doesn’t pay attention to him. He is looking for acceptance. He is almost to perfect and doesn’t realize it.

Likability-He is likable like a wounded deer. The audience feels pity.

How they react under stress-He lacks displaying emotion and doesn’t get scared.

Relationship with other other characters-People like him, because he doesn’t show emotion and goes with the flow.

    Peter

    Role-He’s is Adam’s best friend.

Traits-He is very kind. He is jealous of Adam’s upbringing and his family support.

Fears-He is scared that his family will never be as perfect as Adam’s family.

Wants/Needs-He always follows Adam’s advice and is scared to speak for himself.

Likability-He is somewhat likable. We like him, but there is dark undertone.

How they react under stress-He looks to Adam on how to react to situations.

Relationship with other characters-He gets along well with other people.

    Noah

Role-He is the older brother of Luke, whom was killed in the opening scene. He is very muscular, an Eagle Scout volunteer at the camp.

Traits-He is very macho and cocky.

Fears-He tries to act tougher than he is and doesn’t like to show emotion.

Wants/Needs-He wants people to respect him. He thinks of himself as not that smart.

Likability-He grows on you. At first, he is a jerk, but you begin to see the softer side of him.

How they react under stress-He goes all in to begin with and when he realizes that his brother was murdered by Samuel, he doesn’t think before his actions.

Relationship with characters-The crew slowly starts to care for Noah. They become friends.

    Adam

Role-He is the “golden retriever” of the group, which we see in the Canoe Swamping scene. He makes sure that everyone is happy and tries to solve the problems.

Traits-He is very kind and empathetic.

Fears-He fears that with different personalities, chaos will ensue.

Wants/Needs-He doesn’t worry about his own needs or survival, he needs the crew to be safe. As each member goes missing, you can tell that it takes a toll on him.

Likability-He is extremely likable and the audience will be rooting for him throughout the whole movie.

Relationship with characters-Everyone likes him and respects his opinions.

    Hannah (sole survivor)

Role-She is the sole female in the group. Adam and herself tend to be the most composed members of the group. She helps serve food and assists with the Camp Activities with Samuel.

Traits-She is very attractive and assertive. She is like the women In the movie “Death Proof”.

    Fears-As of now, none.

    David

Role-He is one of the interrogators brought in to ask the camp attendees about Luke’s death.

Traits-Very organized and irritated that he is being belittled to investigate. Very arrogant. Late Forties.

    Sarah

    Likability-None

Relationship with characters-Very to the point and succinct.

    Luke

Character Intro-He is very kind, organized and trustworthy which we see as cleans up the campsite as his friends goof off.

Denial-He is the first to be murdered, so there is no chance of denial. Maybe surprised.

Their reaction at first horror-Luke is surprised because Samuel is very friendly and trustworthy.

Reaction to group after first horror-

How they fight back-Luke falls down in disbelief and bleeds out. He tries to reason with Samuel.

    End Point-

What insight do their deaths or survival bring to the others/audience-

It causes chaos in the camp ground and brings in interrogators to amp up the suspense.

    Matthew

Character Intro-Walking with a group of strangers to complete his canoeing merit badge. They will be Swamping a Canoe together.

    Denial-Is unaware of any murder.

Their reaction at first horror-He has a slow painful death by bow and arrow and is scared and crying. He keeps getting hit by arrows.

Relation to group at first horror-As Matthew is getting hit with arrows, he is yelling “help”.

How they fight back-Matthew tries to crawl to safety, but is unsuccessful.

End Story-Matthew eventually bleeds out and dies.

What insight do their deaths or survival bring to the others/audience?-The crew now knows that something is wrong.

    Caleb

Character Intro-Walking with a group of strangers to complete his canoeing merit badge. They will be Swamping a Canoe together.

Denial-Caleb is incredibly sensitive and shuts down emotionally. He is very stoic up to his demise.

Their reaction at first horror-He freezes and doesn’t try to save Matthew. He gets shit on for that.

How they fight back-He doesn’t fight back. He just looks at Samuel in confusion.

End Point-He dies from blunt force.

What insight do their deaths or survival bring the others/audience?-The crew doesn’t see this death, but we experience the pent up rage of Samuel.

    Peter

Character Intro-Walking with a group of strangers to complete his canoeing merit badge. They will be Swamping a Canoe together.

Denial-Peter continuously asks everyone else what they should do. He becomes annoying to the crew.

Their reaction at first horror-Everyone is traumatized but Peter tries to rationalize what is going on. He could be on the spectrum.

Relation to group after first horror-He is very helpful and smart. He offers possible hypothesis.

How they fight back-After being scalded, he swings while blinded. He gives Samuel a fight.

End Point-He ends up a victim.

What insight do their deaths or survival bring to the others/audience?-Again, his murder is not witnessed, but for the first time, we see the monster struggling to take out a victim. It makes him more human.

    Noah

Character Intro-Walking with a group of strangers to complete his canoeing merit badge. They will be Swamping a Canoe together.

Denial-He is in full force trying to save Matthew and is very diligent until he gets grazed in the leg with an arrow. He is somewhat perplexed.

Their reaction at first horror-He sweeps right into action. You get the idea that he doesn’t care or think, he just reacts.

Relation to group after first horror-He becomes more big brotherly to his crew.

How they fight back-He takes charge and decides that they have to become the hunter and not the hunted.

End Point-He. Puts up a valiant fight, but eventually becomes a victim.

What insight do their deaths or survival bring to the others/audience?-Noah, who seems like a jerk at the beginning, starts to grow on the audience. We really want him to succeed.

    Adam

Character Intro-Walking with a group of strangers to complete his canoeing merit badge. They will be Swamping a Canoe together.

Denial-He is very calm throughout the whole experience. Noah and Adam are a good Yin and Yang.

Their reaction at first horror-He runs to help his friend.

Relation to group after first horror-He maps out the camp on the ground and tries to figure out where the monster goes to.

    How they fight back-Strategy

End Point-Adam is a victim, but almost defeats Samuel with wit and reliving his childhood.

What insight do their deaths or survival bring to the others/audience-For a moment we see Samuel as a human, not wanting to kill Adam.

    Hannah

Character Intro-We meet her at the Mess Hall when the crew runs in talking about losing Matthew. She is a college volunteer.

Denial-She bounces right back. Nothing seems to phase her. We learn of her past through various conversations.

Their reaction at first horror-We see her running after the monster.

Relation to group after first horror-They all become closer because of her.

    How they fight back-Outsmarting

End Point-She is spared. She is not in Samuel’s plan.

What insight do their deaths or survival bring to the others/audience?-sequel

    David

    Sarah

Character Intro.-They work for the government and are brought into the camp due to Luke’s death.

Denial-They don’t care, we see them interview various staff and campers. They seem bored.

Their reaction at first horror-They are aloof.

Relation to group after first horror-They go through the motions and just want to get out of camp. They ask softball questions and could care less.

How they fight back-They do not have a chance to fight back.

End Point-When they interview Samuel, he puts poison ivy in their coffee. They trust him because he works in the Mess Hall. They both go into shock and are paralyzed.

(I have to do more research on what happens when you drink poison ivy)

What insight do their deaths or survival bring to the others/audience?- The audience will be annoyed by them. I think of Ray Liotta in Hannibal.

    Wade Jehowski’s Monster Reveal Track

What I learned doing this assignment is that it is fun to give the audience a little bit of the “Monsters” backstory throughout the movie. Also, it was fun to revisit “The Thing”, I forgot how badass Kurt Russel was. I also enjoyed how humans become their worst enemies to the crew due to distrust.

Powers-Strong, an Eagle Scout who is a “Jack of All Trades”

    Limitations-only human

Weaknesses-Seeing families together, Samuel witnesses Noah hugging Luke, volunteering dads talking to their sons. He walks through camp witnessing various bonds.

Plan/Purpose/Appetite-Recreate his childhood trauma to the best of his ability

    Opening scene:

Luke was stabbed to death in his tent. His body was partially dragged out, but abruptly left midway between the front entrance of his tent.

Luke was meant to be dragged away from the crime scene, but Samuel, “the Monster” heard campers’ voices and ran away. We find out that Luke was the younger brother of Noah.

Alarms go off in the camp

During the alarm sequence and horrific reactions by the campers, the title sequence happens.

There is a group of boys who were put together from different troops to get to know each other. Their activity is to swamp a canoe. This group is Adam, Peter, Matthew, Noah and Caleb.

(Victim)

Hannah-She is on one of the few females working at the camp. She helps in the kitchen and has her own cabin. She is very kind to the staffers. (Survives)

David-He is one of the interrogators who is brought in to talk to the camp staff, attendees about the murder of a camper. (Victim)

Sarah-She is the other interrogator who is brought in to question the camp staff and attendees. (Victim)

Both David and Sarah are annoyed that they have to “rough it” during this investigation.

“Monster Reveal” Samuel walks by the group swamping the Canoe and watches them. He wipes off blood from his hand on a leaf. We see a flashback from his childhood.

    Flashback sequence

(Samuel the “Monster” witnesses his parents killing his siblings when he was a little boy. He was the youngest of his five male siblings. We do not see the deaths but we see him watching in horror.)

As the group is leaving the lake after swamping the canoe they are heading towards the Mess Hall for dinner. Matthew has to pee and wanders into the woods. He is hit in the leg by an arrow. He tries to get up again and screams. His new crew run to see what is happening. Matthew is shot with another arrow. They try to save them but are scared off as the arrow’s get closer to them.

“Monster Reveal” Samuel drags the body.

    Flashback sequence

(We see Samuel as a little boy being dragged from under his bed)

“Monster Reveal”. We see Samuel open up a camouflage hatch door and drop the body down below.

The crew runs to the mess hall and goes up to a camp counselor and tells them what happens. The Counselor tries to calm them down and tells them that they will look into it immediately.

“Monster Reveal” We see Samuel walk out of the “Mess Hall” kitchen with an apron. He kindly asks the crew if they are okay. He is interrupted from the Head Counselor asking Samuel to fix an electrical problem and Samuel needs to hand in the group list for tomorrow’s activities.

Noah is looking around the Mess Hall for his little brother Luke and cannot find him.

He brings it up to his new group.

The Camp alarm goes off. All of the staff and campers are told to be put.

    (Fade to black)

Ambulances arrive along with two interrogators. Noah is asked to step away from the Mess Hall. The interrogators talk to him outside. We see him through the window punching the outside wall. Samuel is watching. Samuel’s coworker Hannah is watching Noah. She runs up to Noah and hugs him. They’ve always had a bond.

(I’ll have to figure out on how to expound on that.

    “Monster Reveal”

    Flashback Sequence

(We see a young Samuel talking to police officers and crying)

The crew, which now includes Hannah, doesn’t follow directions after the camp alarm goes off due to Lukes death and tries to look for Matthew. His body isn’t there. They follow the trail of blood and pass by the shotgun range. Samuel is watching them from a distance. He has a rifle in his hand. He shoots the shotgun in the air and they scatter. He finds Caleb and beats him to death with the butt of the rifle.

    “Monster Reveal”

Samuel drags Caleb’s body down the hatch and sets him in a chair. Next to Caleb is Mathew in a different chair. There are home videos playing on a television.

Samuel goes down with the pot of boiling water, shuts the door and scalds Peter.

Samuel immediately goes to the circuit breaker in the basement and turns off the electricity. The crew panics and leaves. They decide that they have to get weapons in the lawn keeper’s shed next to the Mess Hall and head towards camp sites. Safety in numbers. Hannah, a volunteer has a key to the shed.

There is only Hannah, Adam and Noah left. They rush to the lawn keeper’s shed. Samuel is pulling Peter’s body up the stairs and can see flash lights in the shed. He leaves Peter’s body and aggressively walks towards it. He walks in and grabs a blowtorch and burns Adam’s face.

He tries to get Hannah and Noah in the shed but Hannah grabs bear spray and temporarily blinds Samuel. He is chasing them with blurred vision. Noah and Hannah acknowledge that they have to stop him. Noah wants revenge. While Samuel is impaired, they come up with a plan to kill him. (I’m still working on that)

Samuel knows that he has to get his full vision back to be effective.

    “Monster Reveal”

Samuel heads back to the Mess Hall and drags the two bodies to his hatch. He is crying. We do not know if it from the bear spray or if he truly sad.

There is a montage of campers, counselors and parents being interviewed by the interrogators throughout the movie.

Noah is strangled to death by Samuel after a fight scene with himself and Hannah. Hannah tries to help but is knocked out unconscious with a punch. Samuel drags Noah’s body away and leaves Hannah.

    “Monster Reveal”

Samuel props up Noah on a chair with the other victims. There are two chairs at the dinner table remaining. Both chairs at both sides of the head table are empty. We see boys playing together on the video in the background.

The interrogators who were called in to the camp to ask questions about Luke’s murder (stabbed to death in his tent).

    “Monster Reveal”

Samuel drags their bodies to his underground room. They wake up in pain. They are sitting at the heads of the table next to the victims. There’s home movies playing in the background. Samuel speaks to David and Sarah as his parents and asks numerous questions why he murdered his brothers. He eventually punches them to death to release his pent up rage.

    “Monster Reveal”

A summer later Samuel is in another state serving up food to a Boy Scout at summer camp.

    Wade Jehowski’s Death track

What I learned doing this assignment is that I’ve drastically changed the methods of the death scenes to assimilate to a theme of the script.

The opening scene is Samuel the “Monster” witnessing his parents killing his siblings when he was a little boy. He was the youngest of his five male siblings. We do not see the deaths but we see him watching in horror.

    Luke

Why: He resembled someone from Samuel’s past (his brother)

How: He was stabbed to death in his tent. His body was partially dragged out, but abruptly left midway between the front entrance of his tent.

Luke was meant to be one of Samuel’s “dolls” that portrayed one of his siblings. Samuel was almost caught and had to hastily leave Luke at the crime scene. We find out that Luke was the younger brother of Noah.

    Matthew

Why: He resembled someone from Samuel’s past (his brother)

How: As the group is leaving the lake after swamping the canoe they are heading towards the Mess Hall for dinner. Matthew has to pee and wanders into the woods. He is hit in the leg by an arrow. He tries to get up again and screams. His new crew run to see what is happening. Matthew is shot with another arrow. They try to save them but are scared off as the arrow’s get closer to them.

    Caleb

Why: He resembled someone from Samuel’s past (his brother)

How: The crew doesn’t follow directions after the camp alarm goes off due to Lukes death and tries to look for Matthew. His body isn’t there. They follow the trail of blood and pass by the shotgun range. Samuel is watching them from a distance. He has a rifle in his hand. He shoots the shotgun in the air and they scatter. He finds Caleb and beats him to death with the butt of the rifle.

    Peter

Why: He resembled someone from Samuel’s past (his brother)

How: The group returns to the Mess Hall and it is empty. Samuel goes down with the pot of boiling water, shuts the door and scalds Peter.

Samuel immediately goes to the circuit breaker in the basement and turns off the electricity. The crew upstairs panics and leaves. They decide that they have to get weapons in the lawn’s keeper shed next to the Mess Hall and head towards camp sites. Safety in numbers.

    Adam

Why: He resembled someone from Samuel’s past (his brother)

How: There is only Hannah, Adam and Noah left.

    Noah

Why: He resembled someone from Samuel’s past (his brother

How: He is strangled to death after a fight scene with himself and Hannah. Hannah tries to help but is knocked out unconscious with a punch. Samuel drags Noah’s body away and leaves Hannah.

    David & Sarah

Why: They resembled someone from Noah’s past (his parents)

How: They are the interrogators who were called in to the camp to ask questions about Luke’s murder (stabbed to death in his tent). Towards the endpoint of the movie, Samuel is called to meet them in their makeshift interrogation office. He brings them a cup of coffee from the Mess Hall and mentions that he is getting coffee for the tired restless staff due to the murder. They drink the coffee and start choking. He grinned poison ivy into blend. Samuel drags their bodies to his underground room. They wake up in pain. They are sitting in chairs next to the victims. There’s home movies playing in the background. Samuel speaks to David and Sarah as his parents and asks numerous questions why he murdered his brothers. He eventually punches them to death to release his pent up rage. His home movies are playing in the background.

    Wade Jehowski’s Horror Situation Track

What I learned in this assignment is my brain is most productive when I can compartmentalize different things. I’m an Eagle Scout and to help me, I searched out Merit Badges to denote each kill and action. I was thinking it would be fun to show the different Merit Badges throughout the movie to foreshadow what was going to happen. I was unable to download pictures of the Merit Badges, but thought it would

be a nice map for the audience.

Step 1 Merit Badge/Horror situations for your story

-Archery – Monster shoots multiple arrows at a victim running for his life, it’s a slow death – Reaction – The Group is together and running away, but the victim unfortunately is hit multiple times. They try to save him but a couple of the members are hit with arrows as well.

-Cooking – Scalding hot water death scene – this is scene where one of the campers is trying to find a weapon. Reaction – He is by himself in the Mess Hall.

-Climbing – a hanging scene with a repelling rope from a rock. Reaction – One of the group members goes missing and the rest of the crew is running from the “Monster”. They run into the dangling body.

-Swimming – A victim is drowned on the beach in an inch of water. Reaction – The remaining group members try to stop the “Monster” by stabbing him with knives that they got from the Mess Hall, but he is too powerful. They are jumping on top of him. The “Monster” uses bear spray and temporarily blind them.

-Chemistry – A victim is burnt to death with chemicals from the Groundskeeper shed.

-Metal Work – A blow torch is used to kill a victim

-Rifle Shooting – A victim is beaten to death with the butt of shotgun

-Forestry – A victim is forced to eat Poison Ivy

-Golf – A victim is forced against a tree and the “Monster” uses his belt and golf club to kill the victim. It’s tough to explain, I stole the idea from I believe Friday the 13th Part 5.

-Communication – One of the victims talks all of the time and the “Monster” tells him to “shut the fuck up” and strangles him.

Throughout these murders we occasionally see the “Monster” drag the bodies his hidden underground room. He puts the bodies in their own chair. We see an old family movie being played on a projector.

Wade Jehowski’s Lesson 4: The Horror Plot

What I learned is that i need to invest an identity for the survivors and victims.

    ACT 1

    -Atmosphere of Evil established

Flashback of young boy witnessing his siblings being slain by their parents. The survivor was the oldest brother to five younger brothers.

    -Connect with the characters

The group, most don’t know each other, are put together to Swamp a Canoe for their Canoeing Merit Badge). Each of the main characters have their own attributes to the success of swamping a canoe. At first they are annoyed with each other, but then get to become somewhat trustful of each other after they successfully complete their task. Noah is the high school Eagle Scout who volunteers during the summer for a paycheck.

They are running late for dinner at the mess hall and are forced to sit next to each other for dinner. We learn about them.

We also learn about personalities during their walk to the mess hall.

We are introduced to one of the few females at the camp. She is in high school and works in the mess hall for a summer job.

We are introduced to the “monster” who is serving up food. He has a distinctive scar on his left cheek. He is very kind to the staffers and campers as he serves them.

We learn about each of the main group throughout dinner. The Eagle Scout is looking around for his little brother.

-The Characters are warned not to do it

    The camp alarm goes off.

We find out that someone was stabbed to death in their tent.

The group is warned not to leave the Mess Hall, but are persuaded by Noah to look for his brother.

    -Denial of horror

The camper who was murdered is the younger brother of Noah. The group sees him being carted into an ambulance.

    -Safety taken away

It’s nighttime and the campers are going to their separate Troops. Noah Is sick to his stomach about his brother and has to vomit. While he is vomiting, Peter wanders to pee off the trail.

The crew waits for him and sees Peter being suffocated while being picked up off the ground. The “monster” is very powerful. They’re too scared to attack the “monster” and feel very sheepish. This is where they agree to help each other if anything like this happens again.

-Monster: The Nature of the beast

We see the “monster” drag the body and open up a camouflaged hatch and descend. It’s a bit foggy. We see the “monster” prop up the lifeless body in a chair and start a home video on the television.

    ACT 2

    Isolated/Trapped/Abducted

The group walks back in disgust with themselves that they didn’t attack the “Monster”. They bicker and blame each other. They go back to the Mess Hall and are greeted by two interrogators (Male and Female) and the people who run the Scout Camp. They tell their story and are sequestered in separate rooms. There is a brief scene of each of the group members being asked various questions.

    -One of us is killed

Peter being killed is maybe considered ACT 2 instead of ACT 1

    MIDPOINT

    -Full Pursuit by the Killer

The “group” leaves the Mess Hall. They go back to the death scene and look around. Hannah joins them. She has a crush on Noah and vice versa.

    -Terrorized

The group is slowly taken out by the “Monster”. We always see the “Monster” drag the body into his camouflaged bunker.

    ACT 3

    -Fight to the Death

Adam and Hannah is ultimately the last survivors. They fight the “Monster” diligently but Adam dies. The “Monster” leaves Hannah wounded, but does not kill her. She questions his motives.

    -Hysteria

The “Monster” is walking by the different Troop Campgrounds. He is normal looking besides the scar and is trusted. We see a microcosm of Adult leaders in a panic. They have knives, axes, etc. nearby.

    -The Thrilling Escape from Death

I’m still working on these logistics.

-Death returns to take one or more

There is a scene where “Monster” is beaten with a log. His face is smashed. He feels the scar on his left cheek and gets up.

    -Resolution

The final scene is the “Monster”, whose face has more scars, serving food at a different Boy Scout summer camp.

    Wade’s Characters for Horror

What I learned doing this assignment is that you have to give each victim and survivor a different talent to help out the crew. Each has to have their own gift. I’ve done numerous Escape Rooms and it’s alway fun to see how each team member contributes.

    1. Social Event and Social Group

The setting is a Boy Scout Summer Camp. There are numerous members from different Boy Scout Troops from different cities. We focus on a group of youngsters who are grouped together to get their canoe merit badge by having to “swamp their canoe”. It’s a difficult thing to do and we begin to see their different abilities.

    2. The Characters experience the terror. As of now, I have 5 youngsters and 2 adults as victims. I have one lone survivor.

    3.

Adam-He will be the lone survivor from the group. He is the person that keeps the different personalities working together cohesively.

Peter-He is Adam’s best friend. He is very sheepish and cannot make decisions on his own. He lacks confidence.

Matthew-He is considered a nerd and very stand offish. He loves the Boy Scouts because he is very helpful with the troop duties.

Noah-He is an Eagle Scout who assists with running the summer camp. He is very strong and cocky. He is in charge of overlooking the group when they have to “swamp their canoe”.

Hannah-She is on one of the few females working at the camp. She helps in the kitchen and has her own cabin. She is very kind to the staffers.

David-He is one of the interrogators who is brought in to talk to the camp staff, attendees about the murder of a camper.

Sarah-She is the other interrogator who is brought in to question the camp staff and attendees.

Both David and Sarah are annoyed that they have to “rough it” during this investigation.

    Subject Line:

    Wade Jehowski’s Terrifying Monster-Samuel

What I learned doing this assignment is that I want my “Monster” to be somewhat sympathetic to the audience and I want them to fully understand how he became this way.

    Their Terror:

    How does the monster terrorize?

It seems the “monster” picks random victims to the camp attendees.

    How does the “monster” pursue?

He normally approaches quickly and suffocates the victim. He is not into disfiguring the body.

    How does the monster isolate?

You are in his world. He knows the schematics of the camp.

What is the terrible thing they do?

He suffocates his victims with a plastic bag. It’s a slow death. He never leaves a body to be found.

How does the monster cause death?

He suffocates his victims with a plastic bag.

    What makes this inescapable?

There are two authority figures investigating the mass disappearances and no one is allowed to leave until all questions are answered.

    Their Mystery:

To avoid death, the victim has to resort to small child. This seems to subdue the monster”. It bings him back to a traumatic past experience.

    Fear Provoking Appearance:

Samuel is a normal looking high schooler who is an Eagle Scout. He is very well liked by everyone. He is quiet but kind. I’m thinking an Adam Driver type. He doesn’t wear a mask. He wants his victims to trust him. He often uses a gallon sized ziploc bag to suffocate his victims. He always collects his victims’ merit badges.

    Their Rules:

Samuel went through an extremely traumatic experience as a child and he is looking for certain victims that fit his ultimate experience to remedy his trauma.

    Mythology:

Final scene: Samuel is serving food to the next year’s summer camp scouts.

What I learned from this assignment is…

I already responded to the first half of the assignment by reviewing the movie “X”. Here is my concept with the conventions:

Concept: A middle age boy is found murdered at a week long Boy Scout Summer Camp.

Terrorize The Characters: The Camp Staff, parent volunteers and Middle/High School aged scouts are all put under investigation by the authorities. During this time, other deaths occur.

Isolation: The authorities make everyone at the Camp, which is a large amount of people, stay at the Camp until they figure out who the “Monster” is. We have the Camp attendants having to sleep in their quarters/tents nightly scared of what will happen to them during this event. This Camp is isolated from any civilization.

Death: The main character is a 10th grader who found his troop mate stabbed to death in the tent they were sharing. He is the main suspect and scared. As other Scouts from other troops go missing and bodies are found, our character, along with everyone else at the camp begin to become paranoid of everyone else.

Monster/Villain: I’m still trying to piece out the Monster.

High Tension: Any sound that is heard in the woods instantly creates the mind to wander. Our main character begins to notice the Archery Range, the lake, the Troops Ax yard and wonders that there are so many ways for the monster to get them. I was hoping to possibly have a death by drowning, bow and arrow and possibly a body in the designated ax yard where they cut firewood. I’m an Eagle Scout and am familiar with all of the things that could go wrong at Summer Camp.

Departure from Reality: The departure is that while there are murders, the Camp attendees are dealing with being interrogated along the way. They get nervous talking to the authorities in a secluded area and begin to look at their friends as possible suspects.

Moral Statement: I think my moral statement would almost be similar to a Zombie Movie or series. The big takeaway is that whenever chaos happens, the biggest threat isn’t necessarily the Monster it becomes the acts of human nature. I think of the movie of 28 Days Later, the Zombies weren’t the main problem, it was the uninfected humans that caused the horror. As a killer roams free, I want the attendees at the Camp to cause the horror and trouble. The Killer is almost a backstory. I want paranoia to set in amongst the people and make scenes very tense and horrific.

What I Learned from doing this assignment is that the so called Villain is just as terrorized as the Victims.

    Title: X

Concept: A group of good looking youngsters rent out a guest house from an older couple to shoot a pornographic movie in the late 1970’s.

Terrorize the Characters: The old couple is jealous of the fact that the good looking youngsters are so sexual, something that they can no longer have due to health issues and begin to pick off the porn actors one by one.

Isolation: The elderly couple has a house in rural Texas, very similar to Leather Face’s house in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and of course their vehicle is out of commission. The house is very dirty, dripping water, flies buzzing and an unwatched boiling pot on the stove.

Death: Since the couple is elderly, the deaths occurs very geriatric like. It’s a slow burn. The first death doesn’t happen until 59 minutes and 10 seconds into the film. The build up is very tense in itself. The causes of death for the villains are somewhat due to being frail, which is a major theme in the movie. There is a great scene involving an alligator or crocodile, not sure of the difference, that foreshadows one of the porn actor’s death.

Monster/Villain: An elderly couple, mainly the female, that terrorize the youngsters due to getting old and becoming jealous of being young and vibrant.

High Tension: My favorite scene is when Maxine, what I would call the “Final Girl” is swimming in the lake and we can see a alligator/crocodile slowly sneak up on her and she jumps onto the dock just in time. The great part is that she has no idea that she was just in danger.

Departure from Reality: The youngsters are very liberal; however, there are numerous Evangelical viewpoints. The view that sex is bad comes across through random television spots playing in the background or some of the statements made by the elderly couple. It’s obvious that the youngster hippies are out of their element. They should have gone to Austin.

Moral Statement: It sucks getting old. Realize that one day your faculties will go away and that you will wish for youthfulness. Sometimes older people come off as a burden, but we are all heading there.

I thought this was a great horror film because it emphasized that just because you get older, you still have the same thought process of wanting to be touched or loved. When you’re young you take those aspects for granted. I have grandparents that are starting to struggle with things that I take for granted now. They’re not murdering young porn stars, but I thought the movie did a great job of showing aging in a gratuitous way.
