Jessica’s Character Profiles Part 1
What I learned doing this assignment is: just by filling up the character profile you can get some great insights/breakthroughs about your story. The presence of a Wound and Secrets in your character really deepen the story
2. Pick the type of role your Protagonist will play and give us a few sentences on how they will fulfill that role.
Runner: They are fleeing something/someone, as that’s the only way to survive.
Why she’s a runner: She killed her best friend, steals her identity and job placement (internship) in another town.
3. Pick the type of role your Antagonist will play and give us a few sentences on how they will fulfill that role.
Villain: An expression of the Hero’s fears. The one who will challenge the Hero to their core.
Predator: The shark, serial killer, narcissist. They have no empathy. They are there to eat you.
Villains are the couples who rent a room for her.
Predator is the devil/demon summoned by the couple who will possess her body
4. What other characters might be necessary?
Supporting characters: Side kicks, best friends, key business associates = Senior couple who rents a room t her
Minor roles: Characters who are in just a few scenes = an abusive colleague, her boss.
Background characters: Extras needed to make it work visually =Coworkers
5. Pick your genre.
Horror
Sub-genre: possession
6. Fill in whatever answers come to you about your lead character profiles.
The Female student
Role in the story: the main protagonist is a shy student who flees her hometown following the mysterious disappearance of her best friend.
Age range and Description: 22. Makes herself small all the time. Look at the floor when people speak to her. Doesn’t feel she belongs in the room at work. Stressed at work and at home.
Internal Journey: from shy to assertive
External Journey: From innocent girl to ruthless murderer
Motivation:
Want: She wants to avoid suspicion. Following the disappearance of her best friend she flees town.
Need: to confess what she did, to get rid of the guilt.
Wound: She’s worthless, according to her parents and best friend. Boasting about her internship, the friend said she wouldn’t last a week there. This statement hurt her and triggered her murder impulse.
Mission/Agenda: When supernatural phenomema are interfering with her sleep and the landlords strange behaviours are escalating, she investigates and discovers the couple nefarious plan to use her body to host the sould of their dead son, thanks to a pact with the devil.
Secret: She killed her best friend, stole her identity and internship placement.
What makes them special? Under the shy introverted girl hides a ruthless murderer full of guilt.
